Chapter 129: Could He Be a Fool? (First Update)
Chapter 129: Could He Be a Fool? (First Update)
"Mr. Hammer, are you okay? Are you okay, are you okay?"
Seeing Hammer plop down on the floor, everyone instinctively asked if he was all right.
Pizarro, after expressing his concern, couldn't help but frown again.
Today, he had invited Hammer over in the hope of getting him to marry his daughter. How could he appear so clumsy right from the start? This would only make his daughter laugh at him.
In truth, the idea of his fair-skinned, beautiful daughter marrying a police officer with two young dependents was something he could never agree to.
However, Pizarro knew his daughter's temperament. Once she made up her mind, it was hard to change. Forcing her to do otherwise would only backfire.
Just like how he had wanted Belle to take over his business empire, but she stubbornly refused and insisted on becoming a primary school teacher instead.
They had a huge argument over it, and Belle moved out of the villa to live independently. It was only after he gave in that she started coming back to visit him every few weeks.
If he outright opposed this marriage, he feared his daughter would immediately marry the young police officer and only come back to see him after having children.
So, he agreed on the surface but secretly brought in Hammer, the executive director of Hammer Industries, who was around the same age as the young police officer but far superior in every way.
His goal was to make his daughter see the stark difference between the two and reconsider.
Hammer Industries was currently one of the top military weapon manufacturers in the country, rivaling Stark Industries. Recently, it had even shown signs of surpassing Stark Industries.
Moreover, Hammer was still single and didn't have the same reputation for numerous scandals as Tony Stark.
"Nothing, nothing, I just slipped a bit!"
Hammer got up awkwardly, dusted off his pants, and sat down again.
He was certainly interested in Pizarro's daughter, Belle, but not because of her beauty. With his wealth and status, he could have any beautiful woman he wanted.
Unlike Tony, who openly dated several women a month, Hammer preferred to keep his affairs private.
His interest in Belle was primarily due to Pizarro's vast business empire, which rivaled his own.
For years, Hammer Industries had been overshadowed by Stark Industries, with their weapons always lagging behind Tony's ingenious inventions.
But now, with the help of the brilliant scientist Ivan Vanko, they were about to unveil a remote-controlled robot that would far surpass Tony's outdated suits.
If they succeeded at this expo, he would receive a flood of orders from the military. Becoming Pizarro's son-in-law would ensure a steady supply of raw materials for these orders.
After Pizarro's death, he could merge the two empires and crush Stark Industries underfoot.
"Jerry, Jerry, that uncle looks so silly, he can't even sit on a sofa properly!"
Seeing Hammer fall onto the floor, Elsa couldn't help but giggle.
Jerry immediately put on a stern face to scold her:
"Elsa, don't say that. I've told you before, we shouldn't mock people with disabilities or those who have difficulties. We should show them empathy!"
Although Elsa and Jerry's voices were low, everyone sitting close on the sofas could hear them clearly.
"Cough, cough. Jerry, Elsa, don't speak nonsense. Mr. Hammer is not disabled!"
Hass quickly shot a stern look at Jerry and Elsa.
"I understand, I understand!"
Jerry immediately looked enlightened, but his gaze still held a hint of condescension as he looked at Hammer.
This infuriated Hammer on the spot, but Jerry and Elsa were still kids, and in this situation, he really couldn't afford to make a fuss, or he'd lose major points in the eyes of Belle, who loved children.
At that moment, Belle giggled.
In a father's eyes, children, no matter how old they are, are still children. They always feel that their kids need their guidance to navigate the future.
Especially for Pizarro, as the Ceo of a top company, he was accustomed to making all the decisions himself.
So he believed that his actions were always right, and his beloved daughter would surely follow the path he had laid out for her, leading to a better future.
What he didn't realize was that Belle understood him better than he understood her. When she saw Hammer appear, she had a pretty good idea of what was going to happen. After Hammer shook her hand and completely ignored Hass, she had already guessed what her father was thinking.
So when she saw Jerry deliberately teasing Hammer to get back at Hass, she couldn't help but laugh.
After a somewhat awkward round of introductions, Pizarro was the first to speak and began chatting with everyone.
However, Pizarro's conversation never revolved around Hass. He didn't ask about Hass's job, salary, or future plans, which would have been normal questions. Instead, he kept steering the conversation toward Hammer.
Hammer, of course, was confidently boasting about his achievements, like signing major contracts with military generals and dining at high-end venues with influential politicians.
Clearly, he was trying to emphasize his wealth and social status, and the powerful connections he had in both the political and military circles.
In comparison, Hass, a mere sheriff, seemed insignificant.
"Ha ha ha!"
Watching Hammer get all worked up, Jerry placed his hand under the coffee table and quietly cast a tickling spell.
"I believe that by the end of the expo I'm hosting in Queens next week, Hammer Industries will take another step forward, surpassing Stark Industries to become the strongest military contractor. Tony Stark? Just a clown. Ha ha ha ha!"
Hammer finished and burst into loud laughter.
Pizarro nodded and joined in with a smile, clearly somewhat agreeing with Hammer.
But after a while, he noticed something was off. Hammer's laughter didn't stop, and it grew louder and more uncontrollable.
He seemed incredibly arrogant and self-important.
"Cough, cough. Mr. Hammer!"
Pizarro pretended to cough to get his attention.
Hammer: "Ha ha ha. I don't know why, but I feel so happy. Ha ha ha. So happy. Ha ha. Why am I so happy? Ha ha ha."
"Jerry, Jerry, is he a fool or something?"
Elsa, looking at Hammer who had been laughing for five minutes, asked with a serious expression.
"Don't discriminate against the mentally challenged. They are very pitiful!"
Jerry replied with equal seriousness.
Hass sighed in exasperation, Belle covered her mouth to stifle a laugh, and Pizarro's lips twitched. He felt that inviting Hammer today was a huge mistake.
