Chapter 128: The Dungeon
Chapter 128: The Dungeon
"Lyon?"
Seeing Lyon exit the room with his belongings after barely ten minutes, the female police officer on 'duty' at the entrance couldn't help but be taken aback, and asked in surprise:
"You're done with your questioning already?"
"Mhm."
Lyon nodded, "I didn't have many questions, so it didn't take long... Oh, by the way, is there anything peculiar about your Secret Investigation Bureau's Director? Any unusual abilities or traits?"
Hmm? Why the sudden question?
Upon hearing Lyon's inquiry, the female police officer hesitated slightly before responding, "Peculiar traits... Does personality count? He's not one to shirk responsibilities, and when push comes to shove, he's quite reliable..."
"That's not what I meant."
Lyon shook his head, "I'm talking about something more extraordinary, like abilities that surpass normal human limits or accomplishing tasks that are highly improbable."
"Well... I don't think there's anything particularly special about him..."
After some thought, the female police officer shook her head.
"If I had to say something, the Director is highly skilled in combat. He's almost unbeatable, and his arrest record is impressive..."
That's not right.
Hearing this, Lyon couldn't help but shake his head.
These abilities seemed to fall within the 'normal' range, unrelated to the anomalies. The capabilities of the scarred bully were likely not among these skills.
Hmm... Upon careful consideration, it made sense. The Cleanup Bureau was tucked away in a corner of the Police Department, just a few buildings away from the Secret Investigation Bureau.
Although Lyon's own perception abilities weren't particularly strong, given the close proximity, if the Director had used anomalies within this distance, they would have undoubtedly been discovered by the Director.
Noticing Lyon's furrowed brows as he pondered something, the female police officer couldn't help but ask curiously, "What did you talk about with her inside? Why are you suddenly asking about the Director?"
Lyon hesitated for a moment before directly confessing, "Because your Director is a traitor."
"..."
"Traitor might not be the most accurate term. He probably didn't betray the Secret Investigation Bureau but was a spy from the start, infiltrating your bureau."
"..."
"Stubborn!"
Facing Lyon's feigned seriousness, the female police officer stared at him and said, "If you don't want to talk about it, I won't force you. Why are you being playful with your response?"
"I'm not being playful. Your Director is indeed a spy."
"Hmm hmm."
Seeing Lyon joking with her, the female police officer played along, making a face as if she were surprised. Then, slightly annoyed, she said, "Let's go. Since you've finished your business, we should return the 'spy's' warrant. If we delay, what are you pulling me for?"
As she spoke, Lyon grabbed her arm and began walking quickly towards the exit. Upon reaching the registration area, he showed her the name on the document and tried to explain, but it was difficult to do so without revealing the existence of anomalies.
However, the female police officer had witnessed Lyon's 'performance' and knew of his monster-like interrogation skills. After much hesitation, she reluctantly believed his words, her face filled with complexity as she muttered, "No wonder... No wonder the rebels seemed to have eyes in the sky, always managing to evade our blockades these past two years. Only your Director could barely catch their tails... So, they've been playing you all this time."
So, you've been fooled all these years.
After mentally completing her sentence, Lyon instructed, "Keep this to yourself for now. But don't take any hasty actions. Your Director has some... special qualities that your bureau can't handle alone. For safety, I plan to return to the Cleanup Bureau to call for backup. You wait here for a moment..."
Seeing the female police officer's dazed expression, clearly in shock, Lyon paused, worried she might act impulsively. He quickly changed his words, "Never mind, you stay here. I'll go get help..."
"Okay..."
Having been a secret police officer for several years, constantly fighting against the rebels who caused chaos, the female police officer's world turned upside down when she discovered her own Director was a rebel. Her mind went blank from the shock, and when Lyon pulled her arm, she instinctively followed.
As they stepped into the stairwell, ascending several flights of stairs and preparing to exit the dungeon, both of them suddenly froze in their tracks.
The reason was simple. When they pushed open the door, instead of the spacious and bright first floor of the Secret Investigation Bureau, they found themselves in a dim and narrow corridor.
The table with the registration forms was just a short distance to their right, and Lyon even spotted the signatures he and the female police officer had just left.
"..."
This time, there was no need for guessing. The scar-faced commissioner's ability was undoubtedly the cause of this situation.
...
"How... How is this possible?!"
Lyon, somewhat understanding what had happened, was pondering how he had been "exposed" when the female police officer, witnessing this for the first time, stood in awe at the sight before her.
As they rushed into the stairwell and saw the registration forms on the table once more, she was utterly bewildered by the circumstances.
"What's going on here? Why are there so many identical dungeons?"
"It's not that there are many identical dungeons, but rather a single dungeon repeating infinitely."
Lyon pointed at the registration form on the table, rubbed his brow, and said, "Before we went up the second time, I folded the lower right corner of the form... See, the crease is still here, so we're probably in the same dungeon."
After sharing his initial assessment, Lyon picked up the registration form and, taking the lead, pulled the female police officer back into the stairwell.
When they had "descended" another level, Lyon shook his head slightly, expressing disappointment at the now-empty table in front of them.
"It's confirmed. It's not a dungeon that can infinitely replicate itself. Most likely, the upper and lower parts of the same dungeon have been connected, and we're trapped by your commissioner."
The upper and lower parts of the dungeon... connected? The female police officer was stunned by Lyon's revelation.
"So... this is the Bureau... this is that person's special ability?!"
"Yes."
Without saying much more, Lyon walked from one end of the dungeon to the other and entered the interrogation room. He found that the female prisoner had disappeared, leaving only the two of them in the entire dungeon. Lyon blinked, deep in thought.
"Hold my hand and step back towards the wall."
Pulling the female police officer close to the wall, Lyon reached for the Holy Spirit pendant hanging on his chest. He took a deep breath, summoning an invisible giant hand that slammed into the dungeon wall with tremendous force!
"Boom!!!"
Accompanied by an invisible blast, the wall beside them exploded, sending a shower of bricks and dust flying. A massive hole was blasted open.
Lyon cautiously peered through the hole, looking out, but instead of another identical dungeon, he saw only a deep pit filled with dirt. Finally, the frown on his face relaxed.
I thought it was some incredible ability... and this is it?
