Chapter 128: The Battle Begins
“Xiong Er, how is it? Has Yu Hua returned yet?”
In a courtyard within the county town, Wang Cangyi’s face was dark with anger.
He had sent his second disciple out on a mission, but the man had vanished without a trace.
At first, he’d assumed the boy had failed and dared not return.
After all, his second disciple was always a schemer—lazy, cunning, and prone to cutting corners.
But now, a deep unease gnawed at him.
“No word from the younger brother. Not even the scouts he took from the small gang he’d subjugated have returned. But those who went searching brought back this.”
The eldest disciple, a broad-shouldered man, spoke grimly, pulling out a slender, pale-white shard of jade.
“What is this?” Wang Cangyi frowned, puzzled by his disciple’s sudden display.
“This is Gang Yu—white jade native only to the Northern Frontier, found near the Tian Cang Sect. The handle of your second disciple’s Jade Fan was carved from this very stone.”
“The area where we found this shard was stained with blood. And not far off, our men discovered a deep pit, filled with charred remains—half-burned corpses, still recognizable.”
The broad-shouldered man’s voice was heavy with dread.
“You’re saying…?” Wang Cangyi’s heart sank.
“I suspect the second brother… he’s likely already dead. And the entire small gang he took with him—gone too.”
The eldest disciple’s voice was tight.
In truth, the evidence was overwhelming.
Even if Lao Er had the nerve to run, he wouldn’t dare stay away this long without reporting back.
“Good… very good!” Wang Cangyi’s voice cracked with fury, his body trembling. “Who dares go against me, Wang Cangyi? You kill my disciples, one after another—do you really think I’m made of clay?”
The sheer killing intent radiating from his master chilled even the eldest disciple to the bone.
He knew—Master was truly enraged.
“Master, what now? The Wei Family still resists, refusing to surrender. And now, a mysterious force lurks in the shadows. Should we keep dragging this out?”
The broad-shouldered man’s own heart burned with frustration.
The Tian Cang Sect had long been feared across the Northern Frontier.
Anyone who heard their name would tremble.
Yet here, in this remote backwater, they’d been humiliated—three disciples dead, all without a trace of their killer.
This was an unbearable disgrace.
“Drag it out? If we keep waiting, you’ll be next.” Wang Cangyi’s voice was ice.
“If someone wants to play dirty, to steal the spoils while we fight, then I’ll show them what happens when they cross me.”
“Xiong Er, summon the troops at once. We attack the Wei Family Residence today—and we leave nothing standing!”
“But Master, without the second and third brothers, our inner force strength is weakened. We may not break through the Yin Yue Zhan Zhen!” the eldest disciple protested.
“Doesn’t matter. When the time comes, I’ll step in myself. That formation? Nothing to fear.”
Wang Cangyi’s tone was cold, final.
“If you’re going to fight, then what about the Sheng Shan Jin Ling?” the man blurted out, stunned.
“If this were anywhere else, we could silence the witnesses, make it disappear. But this is the county seat—the magistrate’s office is here. We can’t hide everything.”
Wang Cangyi’s eyes flashed. “Now you’re hesitating? So what if we’re caught? I’ll go to Sheng Shan and imprison myself for ten years after this. But right now, move! Do as I say!”
The Wei Family’s treasure was his target—no matter the cost.
Even if it meant ten years in prison, he’d do it. The prize was worth it.
The broad-shouldered man understood the master’s resolve.
There was no turning back.
He bowed. “Yes, Master. I’ll prepare at once.”
Once the man left, Wang Cangyi looked up at the sky, his expression unyielding.
“No matter who you are, if you think you can take from me, you’d better prove you’re strong enough.”
“Wang Xiong… are you really certain?”
A voice echoed from within the inner chambers.
An old man, silver-haired and rosy-cheeked, stepped out.
He had clearly heard everything.
“Yes. Zhao Xiong, I need your help.”
Wang Cangyi didn’t seem surprised. His tone was sincere.
“Very well.” The old man sighed. “Though I disapprove of your act—murder for treasure—I can’t deny you saved my life once. So this time… I’ll repay that debt, even if it costs me my life.”
“Zhao Xiong, you overstate it. The Wei Family’s head, Wei Xinghe, is the only one among them with Nei Fu Jing Wan Man Jingjie. With you and Xiong Er combined, defeating him would be effortless.”
The old man shook his head.
If it were that easy, he wouldn’t have waited so long.
He’d have attacked the moment he arrived.
The broad-shouldered man acted swiftly. Within moments, a large group of warriors gathered in the courtyard.
“Master, they’re all assembled.”
The man reported.
“Hmph.” Wang Cangyi nodded. Then, turning to the old man: “Zhao Xiong, I rely on you.”
Soon, the entire force marched out from the courtyard, advancing toward the Wei Family Residence with grim determination.
Such a display couldn’t be hidden from those watching.
In the county magistrate’s office, the Dan Feng Yan middle-aged official heard the report and froze.
Finally… they’re moving.
For days, the town had been unnaturally quiet—so quiet he’d begun to think the shadowy force had given up.
“Hurry—fetch Zhi Rui at once!”
“The magistrate, Zhi Rui is not in his quarters.”
The news struck him like a blade.
This time, they mean it.
He vanished in a blur, racing toward the outer gate.
At that moment, dozens of warriors stood before the Wei Family Residence.
“Wei Xinghe! One last chance—will you surrender?”
The broad-shouldered man bellowed, his voice echoing across the courtyard.
“Hahahaha! I’ve already answered that question! There are only dead Wei Family members—no surrendering Wei Family!”
Wei Xinghe’s laughter rang from within the estate.
“Fine. Then don’t blame us for being merciless!”
The man had expected no different.
His expression hardened. He raised his hand high—then brought it down with a thunderous command.
“Kill! Leave no one alive in the Wei Family!”
“YES, MASTER!”
The order was met with a roar.
Several burly men stepped forward, hefting massive meteor hammers.
Spinning the heavy chains with furious speed, they wound up—then hurled them forward with all their might.
The target: the solemn, blood-red gate of the Wei Family Residence.
Boom!
The gate shattered under the impact, collapsing in a storm of splinters and dust.
