Chapter 128: Newt, Danger!
Chapter 128: Newt, Danger!
What happens when a wizard faces an adult lynx without a wand or any magic... No one has more authority on the matter than Kyle.
He had been in Dorset for a week, and during that time, apart from eating and sleeping, he had spent almost every moment getting beaten up.
The lynx's blue eyes could see right through Kyle's every thought.
So no matter how he tried to hide, the claws with their pink pads would always appear precisely in front of Kyle, and then, depending on the intensity, give him a light or heavy pat.
The force of the pat depended mainly on Kyle's use of the Mind Closure Spell.
The method of judgment was straightforward.
If the lynx saw things more vaguely, it would only pat him lightly, just going through the motions. But if it saw things clearly, it would mercilessly kick Kyle into the lake.
During the first few days, Kyle had to perform a long-distance dive almost every few minutes, and his clothes were constantly soaked.
As the days passed, Kyle's dives became less frequent.
After a week, when the lynx's claws descended again, they had become much lighter. Kyle stumbled slightly, then stood up straight as if nothing had happened.
"Well done, Kyle," Tina said from the side, holding a small Snifflepuff. "Remember, you must clear your mind of those chaotic thoughts and emotions."
Unlike Chris and Newt, who hadn't come once, Tina visited every day to watch for a while. When she noticed Kyle becoming anxious or overly emotional, she would offer a few words of reminder.
Upon hearing her words, Kyle quickly turned his head and gave her a thumbs-up.
The lynx across from him tilted its head, looking slightly bewildered.
Apparently, it hadn't "seen" Kyle's gesture, or it would have already swatted him.
Tina slightly raised her eyebrows, seeming to notice something.
After leaving the box, she returned to the room and found Newt, who was fiddling with a cauldron.
"I think you can write to Chris now."
"So soon?"
Newt looked up in surprise and asked, "It's only been a week, and he can already block Nadali's Legilimency?"
"Almost." Tina put the Snifflepuff aside and smiled, saying, "Nadali is no longer as leisurely as she was at the beginning, and her actions are much faster.
I can tell that she's now acting purely on instinct, not Legilimency.
It's just that neither Kyle nor she has noticed this."
The lynx was, after all, a magical creature. Even if it was reacting instinctively, it would subconsciously think it was "seeing" things, just more vaguely.
"It seems Dumbledore was right. Kyle is indeed excellent. I thought he'd need to stay here for half a month."
Newt stood up, brushing off the herb debris from his clothes, and said with a smile, "Then I'll write to Chris now and ask him to come and take Kyle back."
"Um... Wait a moment." Tina suddenly asked, "Did they mention anything they needed to do recently?"
"I don't think so." Newt thought for a moment and said, "I remember Chris saying he would come to pick up Kyle before the start of school to go shopping in Diagon Alley."
Tina pondered for a moment and said, "In that case, there's no need to rush. Let Kyle stay a few more days. It's been a while since I last saw him."
"Hmm... Weren't you the one who asked me to write a letter just now?" Newt scratched his head.
Tina didn't say anything; she just glared at him.
"Alright, I'll listen to you." Newt crouched back down in front of the cauldron and added some white powder to it.
The liquid in the cauldron quickly turned into a very beautiful light yellow color, and a pink mist rose from it.
Beside them, Snifflepuff, who was holding a spoon and stuffing it into its pouch, suddenly stopped and stared at the cauldron with its eyes wide open, its mouth watering uncontrollably.
The contents of the cauldron seemed to have a strong attraction for it.
Snifflepuff's black eyes glanced around, and it climbed onto a nearby shelf with a creak. Then, finding the right angle, it pushed off with its short legs and was about to jump into the cauldron.
But just as it was in mid-air, a large hand caught it.
"No, it's not time yet. Be patient," Newt shook his head at Snifflepuff. "And no hiding the spoon, take it out quickly."
Snifflepuff covered its pouch with a smack and tried to walk away on its remaining three short legs.
"That won't do," Newt said, pinching Snifflepuff's hind leg and gently scratching its belly with his fingers.
With a jingling sound, several small toys fell out of Snifflepuff's pouch.
Not only was the spoon from earlier there, but also three Nogts, a button, and a whistle that seemed to have come from nowhere.
Even Newt hadn't noticed when he had put these things in.

During dinner, Kyle emerged from the box, looking exhausted.
Tina handed him a towel and asked, "How do you feel?"
"Not so good," Kyle wiped his face. "I don't feel any progress compared to yesterday."
"That's normal," Tina said with a smile. "Learning the Mind Closure Spell can't be rushed. You've been practicing non-stop for a week, and taking a little break to relax is a good choice too."
"That's true," Kyle nodded.
After being punched repeatedly for so long, he felt he really needed to do something else to divert his attention.
"How about baking cookies with me tomorrow?" Tina suggested with a smile. "We can go practice in the afternoon."
"Okay," Kyle agreed without hesitation.
Although he'd rather go and see the other magical creatures in the box, baking cookies was fine too, as long as he didn't have to face that lynx named Nadali.
At this moment, Newt suddenly walked over and asked, "Can we make grapefruit-flavored cookies?"
"Of course," Tina smiled.
She was a little surprised. On the day they settled in Dorset, she had made grapefruit-flavored cookies, and she hadn't expected Newt to still remember.
"Thank you," Newt said, washing his hands and sitting down at the table. "I remember Ainar loved grapefruits the most."
"..."
Tina's smile instantly disappeared.
"Sorry..." she said expressionlessly. "I suddenly remembered we don't have any grapefruits at home, so I decided to make cream cookies tomorrow."
"Huh?" Newt scratched his head. "But you just said..."
"Squeak~"
Tina bent the spoon in her hand, her expression turning stern. "I said, we don't have any grapefruits at home!"
