Chapter 128: Are These the Dark Magic Items You Seized?
Chapter 128: Are These the Dark Magic Items You Seized?
Just as Pierce was considering whether he should advise the Minister to temporarily halt the investigation, a knock on the door interrupted his thoughts.
"Come in!" Pierce took a sip of tea from his cup, a note of resignation in his voice.
The Auror who entered nodded and then reported.
"Head of Department, Captain Delius wants to see you. He says he has important information to report!"
"Delius?" Pierce paused, looking at Rufus, the Head of the Auror Office.
"Delius is the captain of the Ninth Squad. I assigned him to lead a team to investigate a Dark Magic Shop in Knockturn Alley", Rufus quickly explained.
The investigation was not originally planned to include Knockturn Alley, but the Ministry had suddenly changed its mind due to reports that a magic shop was selling Dark Magic Items on a large scale. He was instructed to send a team to investigate.
As the Head of the Auror Office, Rufus, who had been in the Ministry for many years, knew there was more to this than met the eye.
Anyone who could open a Dark Magic Shop in Knockturn Alley was not someone to be trifled with. He wasn't foolish enough to be someone else's pawn and risk unnecessary losses among the Aurors.
So, Rufus had spread the word in advance and sent the cautious Delius with a few Aurors to merely go through the motions.
However, Delius had been gone for a long time, and now he was back with important news. This gave Rufus a bad feeling.
After explaining to the Head of Department, Rufus sighed and looked at the Auror.
"How is Delius doing? What about the other two Aurors who went with him? Are they already in the hospital?"
Pierce also frowned, bracing himself for bad news.
"Captain Delius looks fine, and Sunny and Ellison are outside, looking quite happy", the reporting Auror said with a peculiar expression.
"Hmm?" Rufus raised his head in confusion. Had the Aurors he sent been beaten senseless? Or perhaps hit with an Imperius Curse?
As Rufus puzzled over this, the Auror hesitated for a moment before continuing.
"They brought back a lot of items, which seem to be magical in nature."
Rufus felt a surge of excitement, and Pierce suddenly realized something.
If Delius had brought back so many items, it could only mean that they had successfully completed their mission and seized a Dark Magic Shop!
If that was the case, this would be the most significant haul from any of their operations!
With this achievement, the Ministry wouldn't blame him for the losses.
Although it still seemed unbelievable, the facts were right in front of them. Pierce slapped the table and stood up, his voice filled with excitement.
"Go and bring Delius in quickly!"
At that moment, in the Enforcement Hall, Delius was waiting quietly in the lounge, holding a pile of magical items. Behind him, Ellison and Sunny wore satisfied expressions.
Their demeanor was starkly out of place in the solemn and tense atmosphere of the Enforcement Hall, drawing frequent glances from passing Aurors.
Many who were in the know were secretly amazed. They knew that the Ninth Squad had been sent to Knockturn Alley to investigate a Dark Magic Shop. Some had even thought these three might not return, let alone bring back a large number of Dark Magic Items.
This was a rare and significant accomplishment!
"Captain Delius, you can go in now. The Head of Department looks ready to personally commend you." The office door opened, and an Auror stepped out, speaking with evident envy to those waiting outside.
The Head of Department of the Department of Enforcement came in person? And he wants to reward the team leader?
Ellison and Sunny were completely baffled. They had just gone to a shop in Knockturn Alley to buy some things. It didn’t seem like they had done anything special.
Delius, however, had a vague idea of what was going on and was preparing to explain once they went inside.
But as soon as they entered, Delius didn’t get a chance to speak. The Head of Department, Pierce, immediately came up to him, warmly patting Delius’s strong shoulder and praising him.
"Delius, I knew I could count on you. Among all the Aurors, you are the most cautious. I was confident you would complete the task assigned by the department."
The Auror supervisor, Rufus Scrimgeour, also looked at the three of them with newfound respect. When he had assigned this task to Delius, he hadn’t really expected them to complete it.
"Head of Department, Head of Department, this..." Delius stammered, trying to explain, but Pierce didn’t give him the chance. Instead, he looked at the many magical items in Delius’s arms and said with satisfaction.
"Are these the Dark Magic Items you seized? Have the people from the Department of Magical Affairs identified their effects yet?"
"Head of Department, these are not Dark Magic Items. We paid for them at the shop", Delius explained cautiously.
"What? You bought them?" The excitement on Pierce’s face turned to confusion.
If Delius had said he bought a few Dark Magic Items, they could have considered it as collecting evidence. But knowing they weren’t Dark Magic Items, why buy them?
The Auror supervisor, Rufus Scrimgeour, froze, then burst into anger after a moment of stunned silence.
"Delius, I remember I told you to lead the team to investigate that black magic shop, not to go shopping there!"
"Head of Department, Supervisor Scrimgeour, we have already investigated that magic shop, and there were no issues", Delius swallowed hard and explained, then continued as Rufus’s expression grew even darker.
"Moreover, we found some useful magical items that we thought might be helpful to the department, so we bought some samples."
Pierce looked down at the magical items in Delius’s arms: a pair of expensive-looking gloves, a few irregular round objects, a quill, several bottles of unknown potions, and a pile of other miscellaneous items.
Pierce immediately wondered if this Auror captain had been tricked.
However, Delius was now enthusiastically introducing each of these magical items.
"Head of Department, Supervisor, take a look at these Extendable Ears. Just by wearing one, you can hear what’s happening on the other side. They only cost sixteen Sickles, very cheap!"
"And this Quick-Answer Quill. With it, colleagues processing paperwork can greatly improve their efficiency."
"The most important item is this Protective Ring. Just wear it on your hand, input some Magic Power, and it instantly forms a comprehensive defensive barrier. Regular spells can’t penetrate it and will even be deflected back."
Delius introduced each magical item one by one, and the expressions on Pierce and Rufus’s faces gradually shifted from impatience to surprise.
