Chapter 128: "Actually, It Was You I Aimed For"
Chapter 128: "Actually, It Was You I Aimed For"
The concussive force sent Navy's hooded cloak and a watch-shaped Transponder Snail flying, which Lida casually caught and draped over their shoulders.
"Aww, just bought this outfit, and it's already gone", came a voice that sounded disturbingly relaxed, completely devoid of injury or even breathlessness from cannon fire.
Smoke cleared, revealing Kuro's silhouette.
Rip!
Kuro tore off the shredded upper half of his coat, revealing a chiseled physique. Not a single mark marred his body. The black, lustrous Armament Haki covering him formed mysterious patterns across his chest and face, even extending to his cheeks. His entire form resembled a masterpiece of intricate black armor.
Full-Body Armament Haki!
Kuro spat out a ruined cigar, smacked his lips, and glared with a snarl:
"You bastards even destroyed the cigars I was carrying! How're you gonna compensate me?!"
"Full-body Haki coverage..."
Law's face glistened with cold sweat, pupils constricted with fear. He'd seen this terrifying form once in his childhood - one of his most harrowing and hated memories.
This man actually achieved such mastery!
Meat and bone couldn't withstand cannonballs alone. Kuro wasn't Kaido, nor some 'Steel Balloon' - just an ordinary human body. But with Armament Haki? Perfect.
"Exactly how do we fight this?!" Capone Bege's voice trembled with despair.
Blazing speed. Devastating swordsmanship. Armored Haki. This opponent defied all logic.
"Haki has limits too. We just need to wear him down! His Haki isn't invincible", Law gritted his teeth.
With so many fighters, they'd drain his reserves eventually. Once the Haki broke, this Devil Fruit user would become vulnerable. There had to be an opening!
Most importantly, Law had absolute confidence in his Devil Fruit ability. The moment this man faltered, victory would be his!
"That Haki has gaps too - his face and chest remain exposed. Unlike someone who can cover every inch, his reserves must be limited", Law whispered to Jewelry Bonney. Their silent nod confirmed shared strategy.
Had Kuro heard, he'd likely retort: Because full-body coverage looks terrible.
Proper shading required - deeper shadows here, lighter highlights there. Even in black, you could create beauty. Why wear a uniform dark shroud? He'd only go full-black if truly cornered.
"Let's test that theory!"
At Law's words, Capone Bege spread his arms wide. His body became a castle of doors, each one revealing miniature soldiers wielding an arsenal of weapons - muskets, submachine guns, machine guns, rocket launchers, and cannons, all aimed at Kuro.
"Castle: Demolition!"
A storm of bullets erupted. Projectiles expanded to normal sizes after leaving Bege's range, transforming into a devastating barrage.
Kuro sidestepped, his body flowing like water through the bullet hell. The firepower proved overwhelming. He slashed his blade, releasing a wisp of air pressure that momentarily blocked the assault, then dashed aside.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Crater after crater exploded across the battlefield where he'd stood moments before.
"This firepower..."
Kuro clicked his tongue at the rising smoke. "Even Observation Haki struggles to dodge this! Dangerous indeed."
Though he could tank it with Haki, why waste energy? That old man who sank beneath the sea once taught him: Haki's most effective when used precisely.
"And you're still tracking my Peter?"
As Capone Bege's firepower renewed, Kuro vanished in a flash, leaving behind a wispy afterimage.
"Behind you!" Jewelry Bonney screamed.
Kuro materialized behind Bege, legs apart, left hand on scabbard, right hand gripping the hilt. He leaned forward, blade poised for a devastating slash. A thick, suffocating killing intent radiated from him.
"Room!"
Law roared as he pointed a finger. A stone launched into the air, swapping places with Bege. The stone hurtled toward Kuro.
Kuro remained motionless, like a statue.
The stone pierced through him - right through his body! His form wavered like a reflection in rippling water.
Afterimage!
"Aren't you clever?"
Kuro's voice came from beside Law, his figure gradually materializing. He tilted his head, offering a chilling smile.
"Ichiryu Style."
The Super Novas deserved no underestimation. Kuro never looked down on them - truly. Especially this man, Law.
Surgery Fruit - the pinnacle Devil Fruit. Its abilities could even sever Haki with precision. Its range extended beyond single targets.
While he might dismiss others, this man required serious attention.
Law could teleport using his Room ability. No matter how fast Kuro moved, it couldn't match true instantaneous movement. But currently, each activation created a brief hesitation. That momentary lapse was all he needed.
"You thought I aimed for Capone Bege..."
Clang!
Two crossed sickles blocked Kuro's slash, sparks flying at the point of contact.
Killer stood before him. The wounds across his chest? Completely healed, skin as smooth as untouched marble.
"So you were healed by Law while I dealt with Capone Bege?" Kuro mused. "Devil Fruit users really are convenient. If Surgery Fruit can reattach severed arms, how could it struggle with mere torn flesh?"
Kuro pressed downward, the blades grinding against each other. Killer's arms trembled, body instinctively crouching under the pressure. His strength wasn't overwhelming, but compared to others?
Killer couldn't keep up.
"Room!"
Law's shout echoed as Killer vanished with a flick of his finger.
Whoosh!
A stone replaced Killer. Kuro's blade cleaved the rock in two before he raised his eyes - to find red-haired Eustass Kid suddenly materialized before him.
Steel weapons covered his arms, forming a single massive mechanical limb. His chest bore no wounds.
Eustass Kid bared his teeth in a wicked grin, swinging the steel limb forward.
"Let's settle this properly!"
