Kuro cast him a sidelong glance, his tone indifferent. "Eustass Kid."
Question: Who among the current Grand Line figures—Shanks, Severed Hand, and the Four Emperors' position—bears this name?
The answer is 'Captain' Eustass Kid.
Red-Haired Shanks was long ago severed of his arms by Kuro and now languishes in Impel Down. Meanwhile, Eustass Kid, bearing identical Characteristics, has practically inherited Shanks' position, having claimed most of the territories previously held by the red-haired pirate.
"Room!"
At his arrival, Law flash-moved to Eustass Kid's flank, tilting his head upward. "Why are you here, Eustass Kid?"
"I originally came here to fight you", Kid replied.
The mechanical transformation beneath him dispersed, scattering into floating metallic parts. His body slowly descended, feet touching solid ground as he faced Kuro, his malevolent grin widening.
"But I didn't expect to stumble upon a big fish. The Navy's declared war on pirates now, and this guy's clearly a higher priority. Deal with him first, then we can settle our score. You couldn't beat this enemy, Law? Leave it to me—I'll accept the challenge!"
"Don't underestimate me!" Law snapped. "I haven't reached my limit yet!"
"Tch. Who was frozen stiff just now? If it weren't for me, you'd have been cut down by that Incense Burner Monster!"
"That was a tactic! Understand tactics? Every time it's like this—same as a year ago when we fought Big Mom! I always strike first, then you jump in like you're rescuing me, but you're just coincidentally arriving. I could’ve blocked that strike myself!" Law shouted.
"Stop babbling nonsense!"
A blue vein throbbed on Kid's temple. "You wanna duel early, Law?"
"Bring it on! Let's settle who wins first, then deal with this Incense Burner Monster!" Law shot back.
Whoosh!
Two black-gold slashes with crimson edges slashed forward, rapidly cutting toward the two.
Kid raised one hand. The surrounding metal rapidly assembled into a mechanical wall. The slashes cleaved through the wall, their Haki scattering the metal fragments, but altering their trajectory to fly past Kid.
"Room."
Law was even more direct—his figure vanished in a flash, dodging the slash entirely.
Both turned their gaze forward. Kuro stood there, Yokai Blade in hand, his expression darkening. "Incense Burner Monster'—where'd you pick up that name?"
Kid's lips curled into a malevolent grin. "Luffy says it all the time, Kuro."
Law hefted Ghost Cry onto his shoulder, smirking. "True. Heard it occasionally."
"This guy won't let us duel first? Perfect. A year ago, you chopped off my arm. Time for revenge. Don't steal my kill, Law!"
"Like hell! This guy bullied me plenty back when I was a Seven Warlord of the Sea. If we're talking exact revenge, I should go first! Yours was ages ago!" Law retorted.
"I don't care!"
Kid's severed arm area morphed into a mechanical hand, which shot upward. With a roar, the scattered metal rapidly reassembled into a colossal mechanical fist, casting a shadow over the battlefield.
Kuro lifted his head, eyes narrowing. "Magnetic forces..."
He couldn't control the mechanical arm's composition position, unable to decompose it into metal fragments. The magnetic forces had already become an independent strength.
"Improved quite a bit, but..."
Kuro raised his Yokai Blade, slashing at the giant arm.
"In the end, it's still just ordinary metal."
Hiss!
The blade unleashed a slash, cleaving through the arm. The Haki-infused strike shattered the mechanical limb.
Yet as it collapsed, Law's figure suddenly appeared mid-air behind the destroyed arm. His palm smearing Ghost Cry's blade, he conjured a wisp of light, enveloping the sword. As the mechanical arm disintegrated, he thrust Ghost Cry forward, piercing through the collapsing metal.
Kuro didn't block. He vanished in a flash, dodging the blade.
"Cutting!"
Law's strike missed, but he wasn't hasty. His other hand gripped Ghost Cry's hilt, slicing sideways. The elongated blade veered toward Kuro's evasive position.
Kuro ascended again, dodging once more. But at that moment, the shattered metal reassembled into a giant hand, lunging at him.
"Tch, annoying."
Whoosh!
He slashed swiftly, crimson blade flashing across the metal hand. The strike erupted, collapsing the limb. Kuro burst through, his figure splitting into afterimages that flickered mid-air, instantly appearing before Eustass Kid. His blade swung downward.
"Room!"
Law reacted instantly, snapping his hand. Eustass Kid's body vanished, letting Kuro's strike miss entirely.
"String!"
Kid reappeared on the flank, twisting his body. Metal rapidly assembled into a giant fist slamming into Kuro, engulfing him in a thunderous impact.
"Got him!" Kid's malevolent grin widened.
"Again with this... Happened multiple times already", Law muttered, smirking. "If you don't mind, why don't you take the lead next time? Create openings for me, and I'll attack."
"Who cares about that!" Kid sneered.
Hiss! Hiss! Hiss!
The giant hand suddenly erupted with multiple blade flashes, rapidly slicing through it. Kuro emerged unscathed, his body unmarked.
Kid frowned. "What's going on? I struck him directly! His defensive power shouldn't be this strong!"
"That's what I want to figure out too", Law added. "I've hit him multiple times before with Awakening attacks, but they barely caused damage. Need more attempts to understand his true condition."
Kid nodded. "This speed, I can't handle alone either."
Law agreed. "I can't counter his attacks alone either."
They exchanged a glance, speaking in unison. "Let's team up temporarily!"
Kuro swung his Yokai Blade to his side, watching them for a moment before chuckling. "Fighting in perfect sync. No wonder you managed to wound Big Mom severely a year ago."
Kid's mechanical arm and intact right hand spread open, his malevolent grin returning. "Then experience it again!"
Boom!
Metal suddenly floated on both sides of Kuro, connecting beneath Kid's feet to form a massive fortress with twin metallic arms. A skull-shaped head loomed at its center.
With a mighty roar, the twin arms clenched into fists, hurtling toward Kuro.
Law extended Ghost Cry, its blade elongating as it slashed downward from above.
"Magnet Man!"
"Kroom!"
Attacks converged from all sides, top and bottom.
Confident smirks spread across their faces.
Working together? They'd done it a year ago. Now, it came naturally.
And besides... they weren't the same as they were back then!
