Chapter 1272: The Abyss of the Grand Line
Chapter 1272: The Abyss of the Grand Line
Boom!
Lightning crackled again, illuminating the island in blinding white light, casting sharp shadows across Luo’s face. His already pale complexion turned even more ghostly.
He instinctively looked up. Through the dark clouds, a sliver of brightness pierced the sky.
The glow descended with the lightning, and within it, a faint outline of a blade emerged.
It was the Blade.
“Yokai Blade, huh?”
Luo recognized the sword immediately. His expression shifted from concern to confidence. “I know this blade well. It’s useless. I just need to dodge your attack.”
His words sounded dismissive, but his eyes remained wary and serious.
This opponent’s destructive power was practically unmatched worldwide. Surviving his attacks wasn’t easy.
Yet the same applied to Kuro’s piercing strength. If Kuro struck Kuro, even Kuro’s body wouldn’t withstand it.
Same outcome. Luo’s confidence in his own reflexes rivaled Kuro’s. As for now—time to face this seriously!
A blade descended from the sky, a massive wild katana. Its fall was witnessed by others too…
“Yokai Blade? Huh? Why isn’t it wrapped in Gold?”
Lida glanced at Kuro. Come to think of it, it was strange. In the year she’d known him, she’d never seen Kuro wield the Yokai Blade. Rumor had it the sword had been away from him all this time, entrusted to Vegapunk. No one knew why.
Bang!
As the blade fell, another explosion erupted from the battlefield.
Klah’s incarnation, the half-werewolf, easily dodged Dallas’s dual blades. With a simple twist, he countered with a whip kick that sent Dallas flying.
He glanced up at the falling Yokai Blade, smirking. “No more games.”
Dallas flipped mid-air, landing in a crouch. He glared up at Klah, shouting angrily, “You bastard!”
“Oh? What’s wrong?”
Klah grinned. “Can’t hit me? Can’t touch the greatness of Officer Klah, right?”
Dallas gritted his teeth, silent. Ever since their last clash, he’d been unable to land a single strike on this Navy officer, no matter how skillfully he wielded his sword. It was as if his opponent predicted every move, dodging effortlessly or even countering.
Observation Haki was powerful, but surely it had limits! How could he miss every strike? If Klah’s Observation Haki was that strong, why wasn’t the fight a one-sided rout? Though Klah dodged and countered, Dallas could still react and defend.
Seeing Dallas’s expression, Klah’s smirk widened. “Are you wondering why, with such powerful Observation Haki, I can’t defeat you?”
Dallas stiffened. Klah’s grin deepened. “Some animals play with their prey before devouring it. That’s me. You think I can’t crush you? No, you’re wrong. I—”
His body suddenly swelled. Thick, glowing black fur erupted across his skin. His limbs expanded, growing bulkier by the second. His tail slammed into the ground, sending up a cloud of dust. The upper half of his face, already wolf-like, elongated into a full snarling muzzle, sharp fangs dripping saliva.
The five-meter-tall werewolf opened his jaws. “I’m just toying with you, mere pirate. Witness the true strength of Officer Klah!”
Werewolf!
Dallas’s eyes widened as Klah completed his transformation. “Moon Wolf?! Impossible… it’s real?!”
His gaze betrayed recognition.
Klah bared his fangs in a grin, pointing a clawed finger at Dallas. “Oh? You know the Devil Fruit I’ve eaten?”
“Now I get it.” Dallas crouched slightly, gripping his dual blades. “I know of Moon Wolves. Their ability to collect intelligence through blood is instinctual. When that power became a Devil Fruit, it grew stronger. But—”
He slammed the hilts of his blades together, merging them into a single double-edged longsword. “Mode Switch!”
Whoosh!
“Bujackal!”
With one hand, he swung the massive blade sideways, his posture shifting from nimble to imposing. Standing still, he radiated the weight of a mountain.
“Hm?”
Klah raised an eyebrow. His ability had stopped working. The rhythm he’d sensed in Dallas’s blood was gone—not vanished, but suppressed, replaced by an unfamiliar pattern.
“The Grand Line still holds surprises… This isn’t just Kenjutsu, is it? You’ve found a way to block Devil Fruit abilities.”
“Told you not to underestimate me.” Dallas’s voice was calm. “Moon Wolves are ancient, not mythical beasts. Their power stems from their nature, not miracles. Change your operational mode, and even if you taste my blood, it’s only temporary. That’s all you are, Navy. I’ll defeat you. But my goal was never you—it’s the Golden Lion over there. He’s the World’s Greatest Swordsman. Defeating him will make my ‘Bujackal Kenjutsu’ legendary!”
“Defeat Mr. Kuro?”
Klah burst into laughter, as if hearing the funniest joke. “You’re truly amusing! The Grand Line thrives because of fools like you!”
Could Kuro lose?
Klah had pondered this before. Even if Kuro fell, he’d still be Kuro—unshakable, his power unmatched. Few, maybe five people at most, could ever hope to best him.
Later, Klah realized Kuro’s Devil Fruit abilities had evolved so far that he’d become invincible. Temporary setbacks? Possible. Retreat? Maybe. But a direct defeat of Kuro?
Impossible!
No such person existed in this world anymore.
As for this man…
“Mr. Kuro’s blade has already fallen. No more time to play. Let me show you.”
Klah’s body suddenly crouched low, his eyes blazing green. From his core, a wave of darkness erupted, engulfing Dallas. The battlefield darkened, swallowed by pitch-black shadows. Within the void, only two massive green orbs—Klah’s eyes—glowed.
Under their gaze, Dallas’s confidence crumbled. A chill ran through him, his heart pounding with unshakable dread.
“This… is the abyss of the Grand Line!”
Klah’s voice echoed from all directions, reverberating through the darkness.
