Chapter 127: Making Friends and Connections
Chapter 127: Making Friends and Connections
Perhaps he had a little fame. Or perhaps he didn't.
Regardless, Albert was surprised to find that a well-known wizard had replied to his letter.
The wizard's name was Edgar Fosco, and his response was brief, expressing his willingness to correspond with Albert. He also left Albert with a question, seeking the young wizard's insights on fundamental transfiguration principles.
Mr. Fosco's question was not particularly difficult; in fact, it was rather simple, leading Albert to suspect that the other wizard might already be aware of his age.
However, Albert didn't mind. He was more intrigued by the new task that had appeared on his panel.
Make Friends and Connections:
Make friends with five famous wizards in the magical world and maintain correspondence with them. You will gain unexpected benefits.
Number of Wizards Befriended: 1/5
Reward: 5000 experience, +500 Magical World Reputation I never thought a task like this would appear on the panel.
Even if Albert couldn't complete it for now, it didn't mean he wouldn't be able to in the future. Albert never turned down extra experience, and he was feeling rather cheerful that day, so he began to contemplate his response to Mr. Fosco's letter.
After taking some time to write the letter, Albert sealed it and handed it to Sheera, his owl. He watched as she flew away, then turned his attention back to his breakfast, only to find that his slice of bread had been pecked full of holes by Sheera.
Albert shook his head gently, cleared the plate with a wave of his wand, and took another slice of bread to continue his meal.
"You seem to be in a good mood," Angelina, sitting beside him, remarked curiously.
"Mr. Fosco replied to my letter," Albert said, opting not to mention the panel task.
"Mr. Fosco?"
"Actually, I don't know him. I just received his letter and replied," Albert said casually. "It's just one letter; it won't take up much time."
Moreover, there were some things Albert didn't say.
He didn't expect frequent correspondence with a famous figure like Mr. Fosco, as such individuals were usually very busy. Not everyone had the luxury of time like his pet cat, Tom, who spent his days eating, sleeping, and basking in the sun.
"Have you guys heard?" Lee Jordan approached them, his face full of mystery, as if he had just heard some intriguing news.
"Heard what? Spit it out!" Albert looked up at his roommate. "What's going on?"
"The Apparition class," Lee Jordan said excitedly.
"Didn't we already talk about this shortly after the Christmas break?" Albert asked, puzzled as he raised an eyebrow at Lee Jordan. "Are first-years now allowed to sign up for the Apparition class?"
"Are you planning to sign up?" Fred asked lazily.
"Yes, Apparition is a useful spell that I'll need to learn eventually," Albert nodded. "Aren't you guys interested? It'll make traveling so much easier."
"Don't even think about it. You have to be seventeen," Lee Jordan said impatiently. "It starts this afternoon, but you can go and watch the older students practice if you want."
"I recall reading about a time when Apparition was banned at Hogwarts," said Hannah uncertainly. "Are they going to practice the spell outside the school grounds?"
"No, it's happening right here in the Great Hall," Lee Jordan said, pointing.
"That's impossible," Hannah frowned.
"Nothing is impossible," said Lee Jordan. "The headmaster will probably lift the anti-Apparition charms in the Great Hall to allow for the lesson. By the way, does anyone have an owl I can borrow? I want to place an order for something." Albert asked as he flipped through a potion-making book that recorded the process of making Revealing Potion.
"Don't you have one?" Lee Jordan asked, confused.
"Sheera flew off to deliver a letter, and I want to write to the apothecary in Diagon Alley to order some ingredients," Albert explained.
He was eager to complete the task of creating magical photographs as soon as possible to obtain alchemy. Albert had initially thought that crafting the protective ring would unlock alchemy on his panel, but since no such skill had appeared, he decided not to pursue it further.
Instead, Albert planned to acquire the skill of alchemy first and then experiment with it.
"You can borrow mine!" offered Alicia.
"What potion are you planning to make?" Fred asked curiously. "It's not the Elixir of Life, is it?"
"It's the Revealing Potion," Albert said, pointing to the page in the book. "I heard that it can make the people in photographs move."
"That sounds amazing! Can you spare some for me when it's done?" Hannah asked awkwardly. "Of course, I'll help you out."
"Sure, if there's any left over, I can give you some," Albert agreed.
"Albert, we're planning to go out for a walk later. Want to come?" Fred asked, nodding towards the outside.
"Where to?" Angelina asked, puzzled. "The Quidditch pitch?"
There was a training session for the Gryffindor team that afternoon, as they were close to winning the championship, and Charlie couldn't afford to slack off.
"I have another appointment later," Albert politely declined the twins' invitation.
"With whom?" George couldn't help but ask. "You're not planning to go into the forest without us?"
"The forest?" Angelina's voice rose in pitch. "What are you going to do in there?"
"Adventure and treasure hunting!" the twins exclaimed in unison.
In truth, they were going to search for valuable potion ingredients. After the previous incident, the twins had pored over the book A Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi several times and were now eager to explore the forest for treasures.
As for Lee Jordan, the punishment he had received last time was harsh, and it made him reconsider whether adventuring into the forest was worth the risk.
Lee Jordan knew that the Forbidden Forest held many precious things, but sometimes, you also needed a bit of luck. That's why the twins wanted to bring Albert along, as he usually had good luck, and Lee Jordan would follow suit if Albert went.
In their words, having Albert along would significantly reduce the risks of this adventure.
"It's with Professor Burbage," Albert said casually. "I plan to challenge her to a game of wizard's chess."
"I thought Professor Burbage was the international wizard's chess champion!" George exclaimed, and the others looked at Albert with pity. "You're going to get crushed."
"Playing against a strong opponent is more fun. Even if I lose, it's not a big deal. I just need to adjust my mindset," Albert said without hesitation. "Besides, don't you want to learn from a wizard's chess champion? It would be a great experience."
"That does sound reasonable," Fred nodded. "But I still think you're making excuses for your impending loss."
Albert rolled his eyes at his unreliable friends and continued reading about the making of the Revealing Potion.
Alchemy.
He was a little excited about it! (End of Chapter)
