Chapter 1269: You've Got the Qualifications to Be a "Commander" Now, Huh
Chapter 1269: You've Got the Qualifications to Be a "Commander" Now, Huh
One year ago...
Kuro's Awakening form, with its overwhelming strength capable of annihilating everything in an instant, remained fresh in their memories. A gust of wind had been the only thing that saved them from certain death.
After retreating, they soon heard the news of Kaido's execution. That meant Wano Country had already fallen into the Navy's hands.
But as pirates, their goal had always been to topple the Four Emperors. Now that their objective was achieved, they naturally dispersed.
At the time, Luffy still felt regret, wanting to continue attacking Wano Country to secure victory for Momonosuke. However, his physical condition had been absolutely terrible—worse even than during the Summit War. In the end, retreat had been their only option.
Later, Wano Country fell into the Navy's control. Surprisingly, things weren't too bad. Many people accepted the changes, embracing the open seas once more.
"What's the big deal? Incense Burner's a good guy, right? The sea's still open like before!"
That was Luffy's exact quote.
Law believed he meant it sincerely. How others interpreted it didn't matter. After all, Kuro-controlled Wano Country was terrifying enough to make everyone scatter without further conflict.
With the Four Emperors gone, Law, Eustass Kid, and Luffy—who had broken through Wano Country early and possessed intelligence networks across the Grand Line—naturally rose to become Daimyo, gradually inheriting the prestige and strength once held by the old Four Emperors.
One year ago, Law had been physically drained, treated like an ant by Kuro.
But not anymore!
Law strode forward, the Yokai Blade Ghost Cry hanging at his waist. His right hand hovered over the hilt as he declared, "My men, prepare for combat!"
Kuro watched with a faint smile, "You've become quite arrogant in less than a year, Law. Not as subservient as before. Well then, let's see how much you're worth now!"
Whoosh!
A blur of motion flashed. A towering figure drew his dual blades, spiral-infused Haki swirling like gales around the blades as they crossed in a rapid slash.
Clang!
A black-furred Wolf Claw arm suddenly blocked the path of the blades. The arm radiated its own spiral Haki, forming a swirling gust-like Encasement that halted the swordsman's advance.
Both wielded Unified Haki!
Klah had already achieved partial beast transformation. As he held back the dual blades, he glanced at the scarred giant and realized, "Oh? 'Sword Ghost' Dallas, bounty of 660 million. You're the swordsman who rose to fame across the Grand Line these past two years. Joined Law's crew, huh?"
"Less talk, Navy scum!"
Dallas bellowed, sinking his stance. With a grinding spark, his arms forced the blades downward, aiming straight for Klah's neck.
"Roar!"
Klah opened his mouth wide, his chest inflating as he unleashed a concentrated blast of air that struck the blades, momentarily stalling their momentum. In that instant, Klah ducked low, slipping beneath the blades to charge into Dallas' core. His other hand formed a chopping strike, thrusting forward.
Dallas reacted instantly, flipping his blades downward to sever Klah's arm. But Klah's hand merely grazed Dallas' chest before twisting his body to roll beneath the descending blades. As he flipped backward, his wolf tail lashed out, slamming into Dallas' side.
Boom!
Dallas grunted, his boots carving twin furrows into the ground as he slid sideways to a stop. Straightening his posture, he glanced at the torn fabric and shallow wounds on his chest. Taking a deep breath, he crossed his blades and fixed his gaze on the landing Klah.
"Swordsmen like you always prioritize blade Haki over body protection. Your Haki reserves are limited—dividing them weakens your defense."
Klah landed lightly, advancing slowly. He raised a hand, fingers flicking as his bloodied index finger brushed his lips. He extended his tongue to lick the crimson, his eyes suddenly blazing with malevolence as his pupils constricted into a sinister grin.
"Anyone at your level trying to reach Kuro Mr. must get through me first. It's been ages since I fought someone like you. Come on, let's have some fun!"
"Room!"
As Klah sent Dallas flying, Law activated his ability. His form vanished and reappeared before Kuro, the Yokai Blade Ghost Cry flashing out to slash at Kuro's waist.
Snap!
A hand suddenly gripped his wrist. Moer appeared at his side, smiling cheerfully. "No can do, uncle. I'm still here."
"Tch! Don't interfere!"
Law snarled, "Scan, Switch!"
Moer's form vanished, replaced by a stone. The distant boulder swapped places with him.
But before the stone could settle, a white flash appeared. Moer reappeared, gripping Law's wrist again with his same carefree smile. "Uncle's quite persistent, you know?"
Law's ability could relocate people, but Moer's teleportation ability rendered it nearly useless.
"Room!"
Law yanked his wrist downward, breaking free. He spun the blade, creating a cutting force that momentarily stunned Moer. Immediately, he stomped down on the Yokai Blade, pinning it to prevent movement.
Moer maintained his playful grin. "Such dangerous techniques shouldn't be used carelessly, or uncle might get scolded by Kuro for failing my job."
His gaze shifted to the Navy personnel already clashing with Law's crew.
This technique's scale was massive. If unleashed, they might survive—but the Navy wouldn't. They'd inevitably be caught in the crossfire.
"Room!"
Law vanished again, the blade under Moer's foot turning to stone. He reappeared behind Moer, Ghost Cry drawn back, eyes locked on his target.
Whoosh!
In an instant, he vanished once more, reappearing at Moer's side. The blade crackled with electricity as he slashed.
"High-Frequency Scalpel!"
Slash!
The strike missed. The blade only cut through a wisp of white light.
Moer's form flickered into view nearby, raising an eyebrow. "Dangerous technique. Uncle doesn't like it."
Suddenly, his pupils constricted mid-sentence. Crossing his arms, Unified Haki surged onto his limbs.
An elongated blade pressed against his forearms.
Law gripped the hilt, the blade mysteriously extended toward Moer.
"Injection: Gamma!"
With a cold voice, Law drove the blade forward. The tip pierced Moer's arm.
Moer's eyes widened. With tremendous force, he crossed his arms downward, vanishing in a flash of white light to reappear elsewhere.
Examining his undamaged arm, he frowned before lifting his gaze to Law. "You've got some skill, huh."
Externally unharmed, the internal damage from that penetration was severe. If he hadn't reacted quickly, his arm would've been crippled.
This Devil Fruit ability was formidable.
"Enough, Moer. Don't get stuck in a endless tangle with him."
Kuro's voice cut through as Moer prepared to continue.
Gripping the hilt of his blade Autumn Water, Kuro chuckled at Law. "You've truly earned the qualifications to be a 'commander' now, Law."
