Chapter 1261: Happy New Year!
Chapter 1261: Happy New Year!
As Beti pondered, the clamor of battle erupted outside.
Startled, Beti seized the massive flag leaning against the wall and strode toward the entrance.
Outside, their forces were locked in combat with a Kingdom Army unit and being pushed back. Their side had clearly been hastily assembled before being ambushed, causing their formation to collapse into chaos.
Beti’s expression darkened. She swung the flag and slammed it into the ground with tremendous force. "Don’t panic! Gather your courage! These enemies are nothing but cowards wielding weapons!"
The flag’s impact sent a radiant glow spreading over the resisting fighters ahead. The previously faltering frontline suddenly surged with renewed vigor, pushing back the attacking Kingdom Army and stabilizing the situation.
Beti roared, "Leipa! Come out and face me!"
From the stalled Kingdom Army ranks, a man emerged. Dressed in ornate attire with a flowing necktie and slicked-back hair, his thick eyebrows and sharp eyes gave him an air of righteousness.
"Beti." His voice was grim. "Leave now. This place isn’t for you."
"You’ve betrayed us, Leipa!" she shouted.
"Betrayal?!" Leipa barked. "I’ve studied your Revolutionary Army thoroughly. Normally, you’d never involve civilians in our operations, but this time you’ve incited the common folk to resist us. How dare you tell them it’s acceptable to oppose even kings when faced with injustice? If I become king, I’ll be dragged down too!"
"Think carefully—I can tolerate the throne’s existence as long as my family’s power remains intact. But you? You want the civilians to crush us completely. Your ideology is terrifying. I must drive you out!"
"Aren’t you supposed to care for the people?!" Beti demanded.
Leipa pressed a hand to his chest, his tone sincere. "Of course I care, but on my terms, not forced upon me. I alone decide what’s best for the civilians, not the other way around. I am nobility."
Beti staggered backward, stunned. For a moment, her mind went blank.
She’d fought in the Revolutionary Army for years, seeking justice, rallying civilians and nobles alike against oppression. The belief had always been clear: don’t wait to die—rise up and become your own hero.
Everything had gone smoothly until she faced that accursed bearded man and his unconventional tactics. But now, after applying the lessons from his forbidden books, she finally saw the truth.
Nobility would always be nobility. That chasm couldn’t be bridged—not everyone would sacrifice their throne for the people like Dressrosa’s king once did. One man couldn’t represent all nobles.
"Kill them!" Leipa bellowed, drawing his Pistol and firing at Beti.

Above Wano Country, fireworks burst across the sky. Golden lights shimmered like golden willows cascading downward, shifting to crimson, emerald, purple—a dazzling kaleidoscope of color.
Night had fallen. The Flower Capital blazed with life—streetlights, neon signs, and every household’s lamps illuminated the streets.
Wano’s fireworks artisans had outdone themselves, unleashing their creativity after years of suppression under Kurozumi Orochi. With a new Shogun and festival-like revelry in the air, the sky erupted in bizarre, dazzling displays.
Perched on the Castle Tower’s fifth level, Lida stood on tiptoe, gripping the railing and gaping at the sky. "Wow! So beautiful! Kuro, look—it changed colors! Just like that—"
Her voice turned venomous. "Just like that mutt’s hair!"
"Hey, that’s rude. Why’re you still fixated on Yamato?" Kuro’s voice drifted from behind.
"Who’s fixated? She’s a pirate! Kuro, let’s either kill her or send her to plague the New World. She doesn’t belong here."
Lida seethed at the mere mention of Yamato. Over the past year, their paths had crossed at Rabbit Onsen—its delicious dumplings and red bean soup were tempting, but Yamato’s presence soured the visits.
Despite wearing Seastone Handcuffs, Yamato now commanded the imprisoned labor force at Rabbit Onsen like a self-proclaimed heir to Kaido’s legacy, obsessively declaring her goal to become "Oden." Every visit sparked a screaming match with Lida.
Worse still—those cursed gradient-white locks! Inferior imitations of Lida’s own hair! Second only to Jewelry Bonney in sheer annoyance!
"White hair and big appetite—there’s only room for one of those!"
"Enough sulking. Let’s eat and celebrate the New Year properly."
"Fine…" Lida grumbled. She turned to see a massive round banquet table already set in the hall. Ju Geng was still rolling out a cart full of dishes.
The table brimmed with delicious food. Seated at the head facing the entrance was Kuro, flanked by Lucius Kro to his left and the newly returned Kuzan, with Storbery beyond. On the right, Lida’s empty seat waited, followed by Klah, Kas, Wilbur, Ai En, then Moer, Donald, Fen Ni, Binz, and others—Kuro’s elite forces and their elite leaders, joined by kings like David Luo Wei, filling the room.
As Ju Geng settled into his seat, he announced, "Everyone, dig in!"
Lida scampered to Kuro’s side, knife and fork raised.
"Go wash your hands!" Kuro swatted her hand away.
She grumbled, sprinted to the washroom, and dashed back, nearly leaping into her seat.
"Let’s eat!!" Lida beamed, flashing her teeth.
Kuro surveyed the crowd, raised his wine glass, and declared, "This year’s been tough for all of us. Let’s relax, if only for tonight."
*
Fireworks crackled overhead. All raised their glasses, clinking them with Kuro’s.
Then, as the glow faded, Kuro set down his glass and smiled. "Happy New Year."
