Chapter 125: This is Clearly a Conscientious Shop!
Chapter 125: This is Clearly a Conscientious Shop!
"Can this ring really achieve the effect you mentioned?" Delius seemed somewhat disbelieving.
Ivan didn't speak but instead channeled his Magic Power into the Protective ring. Almost immediately, a faint Magic Barrier enveloped him.
The barrier was semi-transparent, and if not for standing so close and having keen eyesight, Delius wouldn't have seen it at all.
"Disarm!" Delius pointed his Wand, and a red beam shot toward Ivan. Just as the Protective ring had promised, the spell was instantly deflected back.
Due to the close distance, even the Elite Auror Delius couldn't avoid the rebounding spell, and his Wand flew out of his hand.
Ivan caught the flying Wand, then casually returned it to Delius. The Magic Barrier around him lasted for about two seconds before vanishing, unable to be reactivated immediately to prevent damage to the ring.
Impressed by Ivan's nonchalance, Delius felt a surge of envy. After taking back his Wand, he couldn't help but ask, "How much does this Protective ring cost?"
"70 Galleons!" Seeing that the other party was hooked, Ivan couldn't help but smile. The price he gave to Douglas was an internal discount, so the official selling price was naturally higher.
Delius hesitated. That wasn't a small amount; he had only managed to save so much after working for over a decade.
"The shop only has one Protective ring for now. Once it's sold, it might be a long time before another one becomes available!" Ivan said calmly.
"Buy it!" Hearing Ivan's words, Delius made his decision without hesitation.
Seventy Galleons was a stretch, but he could manage it. Moreover, with only one Protective ring available and such excellent effects, Delius felt fortunate to have arrived early. If his colleagues had discovered it, it would have been long gone.
Thinking about this, Delius eagerly reached into his Robes pocket and took out all the Galleons he had on him. However, after counting, he realized he was still short.
Seventy Galleons wasn't a small sum, and he wouldn't carry that much unless he was planning to make a purchase.
"How much money do you have? Quickly, give it to me; I need to make up the difference!" Delius turned to the two rookie Aurors and said urgently.
"Captain, aren't we here to investigate the proliferation of Dark Magic Items?"
Ellison opened his mouth, but seeing Delius's eager expression, he swallowed his words and reluctantly took out some Galleons from his pocket.
Delius snatched them and counted, but it still wasn't enough. He then turned to look at the female Auror, Sunny.
"Seventy Galleons, isn't that a bit expensive?" Sunny asked in a low voice.
That would be enough to buy her over a dozen bottles of Charm Potion.
"You might think you're buying a ring, but sometimes it's like buying a life!" Delius shook his head. Noticing their puzzled expressions, he began to share some of his experiences.
As a veteran Auror at the Ministry of Magic, Delius had been in the field for over a decade, even participating in the last Wizarding War.
Capturing dangerous Dark Wizards was his daily work. Unlike these rookies, he was well aware of the high risks involved in being an Auror!
"Many colleagues have died because they were too slow in casting spells during dangerous encounters with Dark Wizards. If all Aurors in the Ministry of Magic were equipped with defensive magic items, they wouldn't have died", Delius couldn't help but sigh.
Ivan nodded in satisfaction. He was just about to say that, but it was naturally more effective coming from Delius.
Ellison and Sunny were both taken aback. They hadn't expected the job of an Auror to be so dangerous.
Especially Ellison, who was already considering whether he should buy a Protective Ring, even though there was only one available for now. He could always save up the money, right?
"You're Aurors?" Ivan observed everyone's reactions and put on a surprised expression. "Of course, little brother, see this outfit?" Sunny pointed to her standard Robes, speaking with pride.
"Awesome! My biggest dream after graduation is to become an Auror!" Ivan's eyes sparkled with envy.
"You'll have to work hard for that. The Ministry of Magic's review is very strict. Only true elites can make it in here!" Sunny was pleased and closed her eyes in contentment. She had spent a long time to become an Auror.
Delius also nodded in agreement.
After listening to Ivan's introduction of the items, Delius had some doubts about the information the Ministry of Magic had given him. This place seemed more like a regular magical item shop with its own unique style.
With so many interesting magical items, there was no need to sell Dark Magic Items.
Moreover, when Ivan had taken his Wand and promptly returned it, Delius's suspicions were greatly reduced. If Ivan had any malicious intentions, that would have been the perfect moment to act.
"By the way, why did your mother open the shop in Knockturn Alley?" Delius had one last question. He squatted down and looked directly into Ivan's eyes.
"Because we're poor!" Ivan shrugged.
Poor?
Delius was speechless for a moment. That made sense. Who would want to stay in this dilapidated place if they weren't poor?
But then again...
Delius looked at the Protective Ring in his hand and the bag of Galleons he had just given to Ivan.
Was running a magical item shop really that poor? He found it hard to believe.
Ivan noticed the Auror captain's doubts and explained.
"My mother has seen too many wizards persecuted by Dark Magic. So she has been dedicated to research on the prevention and treatment of Dark Magic over the years, spending a lot of time and effort on it.
The cost of researching magical items is very high. It takes at least a few years and thousands of Galleons to develop the Runes Formula, and countless failures before achieving any results. We only had some success recently, so..."
"There's no profit to be made!" Ivan concluded.
Delius nodded. Given that, the Protective Ring, such a high-end magical item, being sold for just 70 Galleons was indeed very cheap.
He really wondered who the idiot was in the Ministry of Magic who reported this place as a Dark Magic shop.
This place was clearly a reputable store!
Did the rumor-mongers have no conscience?
