Chapter 125: Death Q&A (Part 2)
Chapter 125: Death Q&A (Part 2)
Mr. You said, "Please ask", but instead of immediately posing the question, he smiled warmly at Feng Bu Jue and said, "The first question's pretty easy—don't get nervous."
"Since when did I say I was nervous? History's my strong suit!" Feng Bu Jue replied calmly.
"OK, please ask… Di Renjie…" The moment Mr. You spoke the name, Feng Bu Jue relaxed. He had worried the questions might stem from some fictional universe—like asking about yuanfang right off the bat—but now the rotund host had named a real historical figure. This meant his knowledge bank would be useful after all.
"Di Renjie—we all know him well! Chancellor during the Wu Zhou era, famous for solving cases." Mr. You rambled on for a bit before getting cut off.
"Just finish the question already!" Feng Bu Jue snapped.
"Hehe… sorry, sorry", Mr. You apologized. "Here we go: What zodiac sign was Di Renjie born under?"
"Huh?" Feng Bu Jue froze instantly.
Xiao Tan and the others wanted to help but were equally stunned by this unexpected query.
"Forty-five seconds on the clock!" Mr. You declared. Overhead speakers began ticking off the countdown with dramatic "tick-tocks."
"This isn't history—it's math!" Feng Bu Jue muttered, "But at least Di Renjie's birth and death years are round numbers. 630-700 AD. This year, 2055, is the Year of the Pig…."
"Thirty seconds left!" Mr. You reminded him, looking entirely at ease.
"Tiger!" Feng Bu Jue answered decisively without hesitation.
"Correct!" Mr. You confirmed.
The audience erupted in applause as Mr. You raised his hand. The first question card flared into flames and vanished.
"Question Two." Mr. You turned to Xiao Tan. "You Number Two contestant look pretty tense over there."
"Well… was the first question really considered easy?" Xiao Tan paled.
"Hehe… Of course!" Mr. You smiled. "Now listen carefully. This is a… sports question." He read from the card, "Name any three players who have won the snooker world championship." Looking up at Xiao Tan, "Timing starts now!"
"Do you need full names?" Xiao Tan asked.
"Yes", Mr. You confirmed. "Remember—no mistakes. One wrong name means total failure. And watch the time."
"Joe Davis!" Xiao Tan started confidently.
"Correct. One!" Mr. You acknowledged. "Thirty seconds remaining!"
"Stephen Hendry!"
"Correct. Two!" Mr. You prompted.
"Ding Junhui!" Xiao Tan blurted out immediately.
"Hmm…" Mr. You paused two seconds. "Perfectly correct."
"Phew…" Xiao Tan slumped on the console.
Applause rose from the audience.
"Hehe… See? No need to panic. Super simple, right?" Mr. You chuckled. "Almost common knowledge!" He put down his microphone, cleared his throat, and faced Si Yu. "Contestant Three, please listen carefully to Question Three."
After burning the second card, Mr. You read the third question. "This is… a riddle."
Si Yu remained expressionless, but Feng Bu Jue's face opposite her screamed, "Free points incoming!"
"Here goes: You put a chicken and a goose in the fridge. The chicken freezes to death, but the goose survives. Why?" Mr. You announced. "Timing starts!"
"Because the chicken was excited (ji-dong)?" Si Yu replied instantly.
"Unfortunately… incorrect!" Mr. You laughed. "The correct answer is… a penguin!"
A collective groan rose from the audience. Si Yu's score display outside her console immediately dropped to -10 points. Mr. You addressed the camera: "Contestant Three attempted a cold joke approach, but this was a riddle."
"Tch… turns out the answer was one of your relatives?" Si Yu remarked coolly.
The audience roared with laughter. Mr. You awkwardly mopped his brow with a handkerchief, turned away, and faced Bei Ling while pulling out the fourth card: "Alright, Contestant Four, here's Question Four."
"Oh~ This difficulty level? Total cakewalk! Fire away!" Bei Ling exclaimed eagerly.
"This is… a gaming question." Mr. You said. "Please name the so-called 'Bush Trio.' Timing starts!"
"Huh?" Bei Ling blinked her large eyes, completely baffled.
Si Yu couldn't help, but Feng Bu Jue and Wang Tan Zhi immediately started making frantic silent gestures, mouthing the three names repeatedly.
"Hehe… no hints allowed!" Mr. You warned. "If you truly tell her the answer, this question counts as wrong."
"Oh! I get it now—the trio!" Bei Ling, who had been pouting with frustration just seconds ago, suddenly smiled brightly.
Unfortunately, her response was: "Lu Fei, Ai Si, and Sa Bo!"
Bang-Bang—the sounds of Feng Bu Jue and Xiao Tan's faces hitting their consoles reverberated loudly.
The audience collectively gasped as if their glasses shattered.
"Incorrect!" Mr. You declared. "Though this question might indeed be a blind spot for female contestants."
Bei Ling's score also dropped to -10 points.
"Now after the first four questions, let's check the scores." Mr. You gestured. "Both male contestants have +10 points, while both female contestants are at -10." He looked up. "Let's invite our three guests for commentary!"
Spotlights illuminated the guest area. The haughty queen turned her head sideways with a disdainful "Hmph!" clearly refusing to acknowledge Mr. You.
The Young Master of Plague coughed as he spoke: "Perhaps switching the questions between genders would let everyone score positively."
He Hua Si Tuo Si muttered cryptically to himself: "Putting a cyclops in the fridge…"
The spotlight returned to Mr. You, who helplessly shrugged. "Well, thanks for the commentary. Next…" He turned back to Feng Bu Jue. "The difficulty level will increase from now on."
"How come I felt my first question was already the hardest?" Feng Bu Jue deadpanned.
Ignoring him, Mr. You continued: "From this question onward, I won't reveal the question type. Listen carefully…" Holding up the card, he read, "What is the ninth decimal place digit of pi (π)? Timing starts!"
"Three!" Feng Bu Jue answered instantly.
"You just guessed?" Mr. You asked.
"No." Feng Bu Jue replied.
"Excellent! Correct!" Mr. You confirmed.
Applause swelled as Feng Bu Jue's score climbed to +20 points.
"Most people only memorize the first seven decimal places. Seems Crazy Contestant here has quite the memory!" Mr. You remarked.
"Nothing special." Feng Bu Jue modestly replied, though he'd actually memorized 200 decimal places. He treated pi as a password database, selecting six-digit, eight-digit, or even ten-digit sequences from different sections that were both secure and traceable.
"Seems Contestant One is drifting further from the Colosseum!" Mr. You smirked at Xiao Tan. "Contestant Two, Question Eight!"
Xiao Tan had already tensed up when hearing "increased difficulty", his face mirroring a grade-schooler awaiting vaccination shots.
"Here we go: What age constitutes 'coming of age' for a woman?" Mr. You barely finished before side-eyeing Feng Bu Jue: "No hand signals or lip-reading hints—Contestant One will lose points if caught!"
"Uh-oh… I don't know this!" Xiao Tan glanced at Feng Bu Jue, who gave him a disdainful look. He thought: "Not knowing this isn't that weird! Why the 'this is basic' face!?"
"Thirty seconds remaining!" Mr. You reminded.
Realizing he couldn't think longer, Xiao Tan blurted: "Eighteen!"
"Wrong!" Mr. You cheerfully announced. "Score resets to zero!"
Next up was Si Yu. Mr. You wiped sweat before reading the card: "Alright Contestant Three, how about you? Feeling tense?"
Si Yu didn't answer. Mimicking arrogance, she slowly turned her head sideways with a contemptuous snort.
Looking deflated, Mr. You continued: "Question Seven: How many strings does a standard guzheng have? Timing starts!"
"Twenty-one!" Si Yu answered immediately.
"Correct!" Mr. You confirmed, wisely avoiding further commentary that might provoke another jab.
Applause followed as they moved to the final eighth question—the last round's finale.
"Contestant Four, your turn…" Mr. You began reading. "Please complete the next line of the poem line 'Green hills rise like waves entering Zhangzhou…' Timing… starts…"
"The copper sparrow terrace west—eight or nine hills!" Bei Ling interrupted before he finished.
Before Mr. You could announce the result, applause erupted. Clearly correct, the poetry questions weren't solely Feng Bu Jue's domain.
"Correct!" Mr. You burned the card and grinned. "This episode's contestants are all impressive!" He gave a significant smile. "But… someone will enter the Colosseum. Hoho…"
Skipping guest commentary this round, he immediately faced Feng Bu Jue with the ninth question: "Contestant One, listen carefully." He consulted the card. "Oh! This is a special question—if you answer correctly, you gain twenty points! But get it wrong, and you lose twenty! Be extra careful…"
