Chapter 1247: Let's Have a Fight
Chapter 1247: Let's Have a Fight
Kuro naturally knew about Katakuri's arrival, but unlike before, he no longer cared much about who became a Seven Warlords of the Sea. His attitude had shifted, making him more inclined to joke around with Katakuri.
As for Katakuri—well, Katakuri—if only his head had arrived earlier, that last line would’ve fit perfectly.
Yet looking at Katakuri’s bewildered expression, Kuro chuckled, “Don’t take it seriously. I’m just trying to lighten the mood after I killed your mother. If you’re going to join the Seven Warlords of the Sea, we’ll be working together from now on. See? You inspired me—here’s a couplet for you.”
He dipped his brush into ink and swiftly painted two long scrolls, almost like painting a picture. Snapping his fingers, the scrolls flew toward Katakuri.
Kuro recited aloud, “Look, the top line: On Cake Island, Katakuri turns the tide. The bottom line: Inheriting the legacy, Big Mom dies with eyes wide open. The horizontal inscription? Not yet—let me think of one.”
Lida: “…”
Klah: “…”
Was this really how he chose to lighten the mood?
And were those even legible characters?
Katakuri’s pupils constricted, his body trembling faintly. But whatever he was thinking, he suppressed it, replying flatly, “I’ll take them. Thank you, Golden Lion Admiral.”
“Don’t be like that. I’ll write another one. Oh, by the way, no one’s claimed your mother’s corpse yet. Want to take it back? Leaving it out there might attract flies. Oh, and her head’s missing—I guess you’ll have to take the headless body instead.”
Boom!
The air itself seemed to suffocate. A servant in the hall collapsed, eyes rolling back.
Katakuri’s eyes widened, pupils narrowing to pinpricks. The scarf around his mouth fluttered violently, revealing glimpses of his gruesome, lipless grin.
“Don’t push your luck, Kuro!”
Katakuri’s voice hardened. “I’m not afraid of you. A pirate’s fate is death—my mother’s death, my own death, I accept them both. If you’re not here to negotiate, then fight me! This is the perfect chance for me to avenge my mother!”
Beside him, Klah’s eyes turned icy, his aura swelling outward. Lida narrowed his eyes, body tensing.
“That’s more like it.”
Kuro’s playful expression faded as he leaned back into his lounge chair, lighting a cigar. Blowing out a plume of smoke, he said, “If you didn’t get angry, this would’ve been boring. Relax, Katakuri—I did call you here to discuss the Seven Warlords of the Sea, but I don’t want someone who’s just swallowing pride. That’d be a risk.”
“What do you mean?” Katakuri’s gaze sharpened.
"If you’re joining the Seven Warlords of the Sea, do your job properly. Don’t come in with that swallowing pride to survive attitude, thinking I’ve wronged you."
Kuro exhaled calmly. “The Grand Line works this way—life and death aren’t in our hands. Charlotte Big Mom lost. I won. That’s the truth. I’m just telling you, you still have a chance for revenge now. But once you’re a Seven Warlords of the Sea, I expect you to focus. Don’t keep brooding. I’ll ignore your anger today, but once you’re in the Seven Warlords of the Sea, don’t dare glare at me like that again.”
Boom!
A crimson Killing Intent erupted from him, forcing the Conqueror’s Haki in the room to retreat.
“I’ll kill you, Katakuri,” Kuro said coldly.
The Killing Intent surged forward, nearly overwhelming, but was soon matched by the Conqueror’s Haki.
Katakuri inhaled deeply. “You’re right—I’m not over it. It’s not about losing my mother’s power, it’s just… I hate that you killed her. So let’s fight, Kuro. Let’s fight, no matter the outcome. After this battle, I’ll never mention my mother’s death again.”
A smirk tugged at Kuro’s lips. “Clear a space, Klah.”
“Mr. Kuro, you don’t need to handle this yourself. Let me—”
“You’re not his match. This would drag on forever if you fought.”
Kuro stood, retrieving the sword Autumn Water from its rack. “I’ll do it myself.”
Klah’s strength hadn’t quite reached Katakuri’s level, though it was close. In a prolonged fight, he’d lose. Lida might be a match, but sending him would make no sense—Katakuri had come for Kuro alone.
Soon, Klah cleared a space behind the Castle Tower. Kuro flicked his thumb at Katakuri. “Come on. I’ll beat you up out back.”
“Even you don’t need to speak so arrogantly!”
Katakuri gripped his Trident, following Kuro to the clearing. He tore off his scarf, tossing it aside, revealing his grotesque, lipless mouth and rows of sharp teeth.
“Come, Kuro! Show me the strength that killed my mother!”
“You won’t see it.”
Kuro glanced at the sky. “That sword isn’t with me now, but Autumn Water will do.”
Hiss!
Without a word, Katakuri plunged his Trident into the ground. A surge of soft mud flowed from the weapon, turning the earth beneath to sludge.
“Awakening!!”
The ground rippled like molten clay, sticky and viscous. Katakuri yanked his Trident free, spiral-shaped mochi oozing from his arms, coating the weapon in a jet-black Haki.
He lunged, spinning midair, the Trident’s spiral mochi piercing toward Kuro.
“Mochi Thrust!!”
Kuro raised an eyebrow, lifting his Black Blade. “Awakening, huh?”
Slash!
The Black Blade, charged with Haki, cleaved through the sticky mochi, slicing Katakuri’s shoulder. But as Katakuri landed, the wound melted into mochi, healing instantly.
“Oh? You dodged ahead of time? And you’re a Paramecia?”
Kuro swung his blade, smoke curling from his cigar. “But this ability rivals a Logia’s. With this, you’re worthy of the Seven Warlords of the Sea.”
But—
“It’s still a Paramecia. No match for a Logia’s world-shattering power. I heard you fought Luffy? During that fight, you never faced a wide-area attack, did you?”
Crackling golden sparks danced along the blade.
Kuro raised his sword. “Let’s see how you handle an attack you can’t dodge.”
