Chapter 124: Two Cakes
Chapter 124: Two Cakes
At the end of July, Ottery St. Catchpole welcomed a special guest.
Hagrid was discharged from the hospital, and with Newt's help, he remembered everything that had happened before. He also learned about the recent events in the Forbidden Forest from the other professors.
Hagrid couldn't believe that Kyle had faced life-threatening situations twice in the past month, both related to him.
"It's all my fault... this... stupid me!"
In Kyle's living room, Hagrid covered his face with his hands and sobbed, "I almost got you killed in the Forbidden Forest, and it was because of me that you encountered a werewolf at St. Mungo's. I should be expelled from Hogwarts and live as a Muggle for the rest of my life!"
Hagrid trembled with sadness and regret, and this nearly four-meter-tall giant cried like a child who had his lollipop taken away, his tears seeping into his beard.
"Hagrid, calm down," Kyle handed him a tablecloth and comforted him, "Wipe your face, don't forget that you were also a victim in Oliver's scheme, and I've compared it, the content on that note wasn't written by you, right?"
Kyle looked at his sofa with some concern.
Supporting Hagrid was already a heavy task for him, and with Hagrid's trembling... Kyle could clearly hear a creaking sound coming from the sofa, as if it might strike at any moment.
"You almost lost your life because I told Oliver Llewellyn's secret. He took the opportunity to trick you." Hagrid sniffled and sobbed.
"He always has a way." Kyle said, "Don't forget he's my Dark Arts professor, he can always find a reason to take me to the Forbidden Forest."
"But you would have been more cautious with other excuses!" Hagrid's shoulders continued to tremble.
"And at St. Mungo's, it was also because you came to see me that you encountered the werewolf."
"That was an accident." Kyle shook his head, "Fortunately, I was the one who bumped into him, otherwise, who knows how many innocent patients would have lost their lives that day... or turned into werewolves.
We averted a major crisis, Hagrid.
Also, I should thank you. Because of the werewolf incident, I will probably receive the Order of Merlin soon. Headmistress Sarcia promised to be my sponsor."
"The running Gorgon, the Order of Merlin..." Hagrid finally lifted his head and looked at Kyle in shock, "You'll probably be the youngest recipient of the award."
"Who knows." Kyle shrugged, "Have a piece of candy, it might make you feel better."
"Thank you, Kyle." Hagrid took the caramel candy from Kyle and wiped his nose with the back of his hand, "That reminds me, I also brought you a gift."
Kyle looked a little confused, "It's not a new flavor of stoat sandwich, is it?"
Hagrid finally managed a weak laugh, "If you like it, I can make it for you next time, but not today."
He took out a large box from behind his back and said, "I just found out it's your birthday tomorrow.
Happy birthday in advance, Kyle. This is a cake I made myself."
Kyle opened the box, and inside was a large chocolate cake covered in frosting, with the words "Happy Birthday, Harry?" written in green icing.
Hagrid had made a mistake in the writing, but it probably meant that.
But that wasn't the main point.
Kyle squinted, his face full of confusion, "Is this... for me?"
When did he change his name, and how did Chris and Diana know about this? "Of course, if you don't lik... sorry, I got the wrong one."
Hagrid looked at the words on the cake and slapped his forehead with enough force to knock over a bull, then reached into another inner pocket of his coat and took out another box.
"This one is for you."
The same chocolate cake with frosting, the same misspelling, but this time with yellow syrup and Kyle's name on it.
"You and little Harry share the same birthday, so I got the cakes mixed up."
"Thanks, Hagrid, I love it!"
Kyle immediately cut a small piece of the cake and popped it into his mouth, and then... nothing happened.
A burst of intense sweetness rushed from his mouth to the top of his head, as if he had just taken a sip of concentrated syrup.
As he expected, he shouldn't have eaten anything Hagrid gave him!
Kyle clenched his teeth and forced himself to swallow the small bite of cake.
"How does it taste?"
"It's amazing!" Kyle gave a thumbs up. "I've never had a cake this sweet before."
"I'm glad you like it," Hagrid said happily. "Why don't you have some more? There's plenty left."
"No, no, not now," Kyle shook his head repeatedly. "I plan to share it with my friends tomorrow."
"This cake is so delicious, it would be a shame if Fred and George missed out. Cedric will be back soon too, and I plan to save a piece for him as well."
"Yes, good things are meant to be shared with friends," Hagrid smiled. "If you like it, you can come find me anytime after school starts."
"Cough, cough... definitely, definitely," Kyle felt his throat tighten and quickly changed the subject. "By the way, since you've prepared the cake, are you going to deliver it to Potter?"

"That's right, Dumbledore agreed to let me take him to Diagon Alley, but..." Hagrid furrowed his brows. "I was supposed to go tomorrow, but for some reason, the acceptance letter hasn't reached him. So Dumbledore asked me to go earlier to check, just in case something unexpected happens."
Kyle raised an eyebrow. "That does sound odd."
"Yes, so I'll be heading to Surrey in London this afternoon to deliver the letter personally." Hagrid continued, "As you know, Harry can't miss the start of Hogwarts."
"Don't worry too much, it might be an issue with the owl too." Kyle looked out the window and said after a moment's thought, "Some Muggles don't like birds, maybe they chased away the owl that was supposed to deliver the letter."
"How about this, give me the letter, and I'll ask Landon to help deliver it. You can just take him to Diagon Alley directly."
"Won't that be too much trouble?"
Hagrid hesitated, as he still wanted to deliver the letter to Harry personally.
"It's no trouble," Kyle waved his hand. "Having an owl deliver the acceptance letter is a Hogwarts tradition and holds great commemorative value. Every young wizard can only experience this once, and if they miss it, there won't be a second chance."
After hearing Kyle's words, Hagrid suddenly froze.
That's right... How could he have forgotten about that?
"Alright," Hagrid hesitated for a moment and then took out a pale yellow envelope and handed it to Kyle. "Then I'll trouble you with this."
"It's no trouble," Kyle took the envelope.
Hagrid stayed a little longer and then prepared to leave.
Just before he stepped out the door, Kyle suddenly asked, "By the way, Hagrid, how did that caramel candy taste?"
"Oh, I haven't tried it yet," Hagrid laughed. "I'm planning to bring it to Harry to try. He probably hasn't tasted any Wizarding World candies yet."
"..."
Hagrid left, and Kyle called Landon over, giving him the acceptance letter. He also took the opportunity to remove the caramel candy that he had secretly wedged next to the wax seal.
"Be careful, that family might have weapons."
