Chapter 124: One
Chapter 124: One
A geyser of thick blood erupted.
From Urouge's abdomen up to his chest, a wisp-like massive wound had been slashed open. The flesh peeled back deeply at the injury site, revealing an abysmal depth.
He grunted in pain as his massive body crashed down to the ground, blood pooling across the floor.
When had Kuro drawn his blade? Now it pointed downward at an angle, its cold gleam dripping crimson rivulets onto the floor.
Hawkins broke into a cold sweat.
X Drake instinctively tightened his grip on his weapon.
"Hey, you're kidding, right?!" Scratchmen Apoo shouted, eyes wide with disbelief.
'The Demon Monk' Urouge - bounty 180 million Beri, one of the Super Novas - felled in a single stroke?
Isn't this guy just a Navy major? What's the difference between majors and small fry?!
"Aww, dodged it~ Such a scary pirate Super Nova~"
Kuro scratched his head, teasing Urouge who groaned on the ground. Then he suddenly stiffened.
Had he been around Gramps too long? His voice sounded like that old pervert's now!
No way, I'm so handsome!
As Kuro spoke, Urouge rolled his body, tumbling several times to reach the other three Super Novas. Kneeling half-upright, he grabbed his bleeding chest. Crimson streamed steadily from the wound.
Gasping for breath, Urouge swallowed hard and retrieved his fallen Hexagonal Pillar, using it to prop himself up. That strike had nearly crippled him.
"Such a terrifying man. Be careful - this Navy is strong!"
"Needless to say, I can see that myself."
Hawkins stepped forward, his usually emotionless face twitching. "No wonder today's divination kept failing - was it because of your existence, Navy?"
You believe it's fate? Actually... Nah, overusing jokes gets boring.
It's me, Kuro!
"Does the Navy produce prodigies like you?" X Drake asked grimly.
His heart tasted bitter.
Because this prodigy looked exceptionally strong.
If he died here, all his plans would vanish.
Kuro faced them, looking troubled.
"I thought 'Pacifista' would handle you fine. I wouldn't need to act. Without action, no merits. Gramps couldn't trick me."
"But you guys seem competent. If I did nothing, Gramps would scold me later. Yet killing you gives merits too. So... play with me a while?"
Capture? Never. Not in this lifetime.
Being a minor Navy officer had no danger and great benefits - he loved this life.
No need to kill either. Even if Gramps was here, destroying them completely wouldn't erase the merits.
Best plan? Put on a show - fight properly.
You might not know: those who slaughter through Grand Line's routes to reach New World's last stop earn a title.
We call them 'Super Novas' - monsters all.
Four Super Novas exchanging 300 blows with him, mutual injuries, pirates escaping, self unable to pursue.
Perfectly reasonable.
This would satisfy both Gramps and Admiral Sengoku.
After all, I'm not strong.
Urouge looked gravely wounded but mobile.
While Gramps could cripple a Super Nova with one kick, he couldn't even kill the weakest pirate in their group.
Indeed, he wasn't strong.
Thinking this, he grumbled about Smoker again. If that guy hadn't repeated his words to superiors, he'd be enjoying East Blue by now.
The not-strong Kuro flicked his blade, crimson droplets 'shwaa'ing to the ground. He sheathed 【Huazhou】, bent his knees, and assumed a drawing stance.
"Here I come!" X Drake tensed.
"Single Blade."
Swoosh!
His figure vanished.
X Drake's pupils constricted, every hair on edge. Instinctively raising his weapon to guard his neck, Urouge positioned his Hexagonal Pillar defensively.
"Heh!"
Scratchmen Apoo pounded his chest, triggering explosions in all directions.
First came the slash across Hawkins' head - but his straw man decoy separated, body and head parting with a 'clang'.
X Drake's body flew backward like an arrow, shattering a building wall.
Urouge's Hexagonal Pillar bore a blade mark. He grunted, retreating dozens of steps before stabilizing.
Explosions surrounded Scratchmen Apoo. Yet through them, an abrupt blade flash pierced the blasts, targeting his head.
Apoo screamed, striking his crown - transforming his head into a gong shape to intercept the strike.
Bang!
Still, the impact slammed his face forward, flying meters backward before collapsing.
Kuro reappeared among them, glancing at the group. "So scary~ Can't even land a hit."
"Third straw man."
Hawkins observed his fallen decoy. Without the substitute, that strike would've been fatal.
Scratchmen Apoo raised his bleeding face, glaring hatefully at Kuro. He blocked, but the force still hit him.
X Drake emerged from the rubble, eyes fixed on Kuro. "That speed..."
They'd reacted simultaneously - yet that man had attacked four in an instant.
"Ahhh!"
Urouge clenched his fists, veins bulging. His body expanded further, growing from seven meters to twelve - a towering giant.
"The damage I endure becomes my power! Die, Karma Retribution!"
He swung his massive fist, covering Kuro's entire body in its shadow.
Hawkins transformed into a straw man, firing countless black nails.
"Roar!"
X Drake became a dinosaur, feet pounding the ground as he lunged to bite Kuro.
"Quite big. No wonder you're Super Novas."
Kuro looked up at the three monstrous giants. His feet moved - vanishing.
Boom!
Their attacks struck where Kuro stood, creating a massive crater.
Kuro reappeared meters away, exhaling smoke. "Nice power too."
"Slash!"
Apoo struck his head again.
Clang!
The sound wave deflected Kuro's head upward, his cigar falling. A black veil faded from Kuro's neck as he turned to Apoo.
Everyone froze.
"Haoshoku Haki?!"
"Impossible! Where's this monster from?!"
Whoosh!
A blood geyser erupted from Apoo's back, a deep, narrow wound carving his spine. He screamed, eyes rolling, collapsing.
"One."
The voice echoed, but no figure appeared.
