Chapter 1239: Throw Them Out
Chapter 1239: Throw Them Out
This person didn’t have any major faults, and their ideal intentions were good too.
As for dragging people into an illusion and trapping them in a virtual Happiness, Kuro wasn’t particularly surprised.
When he first arrived here, back in his old world, they’d already started concepts like the “metaverse.” Various forms of mental entertainment—weren’t they all based on the same principle?
Back then, those people were only focused on making money, while this one at least tried to offer Happiness. Kuro could understand that, so he didn’t think this was some utopian fantasy.
When people starve, they’ll naturally find their own way out—they won’t just drown in despair.
Earlier, the song she sang for Lida, Kuro had heard it while rushing here, reaching the sky. He’d sensed this woman’s life story, which made him understand even more.
She hadn’t done anything wrong, wasn’t even a pirate. Handing her over to the World Government felt a bit harsh.
But—
Kuro raised his eyebrows. Suddenly, two figures appeared on the balcony railing of the grand hall where he stood.
One wore a black-and-white mask, the other a loose, flowing cloak. They stood on the railing, swaying in the wind like hanged ghosts.
“Golden Lion.”
The black-and-white masked figure and the cloaked one leapt from the railing, landing on the balcony in front of him. “You’ve caught the Red one, right? Hurry up and bring her back. You’ve already failed the mission to capture Nico Robin. You can’t fail this one too.”
Kuro silently exhaled a puff of smoke. “Lida.”
Whoosh!
Lida’s figure flickered, instantly appearing between the two. Before they could react, he grabbed their wrists and flung them backward. Bang! Bang! They crashed into the jade pillars of the grand hall, leaving two deep dents in the columns.
“Show a bit more manners, bastards!” Lida shouted.
“Cough!”
The masked figure coughed violently from the impact, staggering as they stabilized their stance. “Kuro! What exactly are you trying to do?!”
Kuro raised a single finger, pointing at them. “First, it’s not about what I want to do, but what you want to do. Nico Robin wasn’t my mission, was it? I don’t even know why you’re here in Wano Country. Want me to explain? Huh? You’re skipping the middleman, coming to Wano Country to cut out the profit margin? Can’t even handle the job properly—makes me ashamed for your CP.”
“Second, Nico Robin escaping has nothing to do with me. I never received that mission. My superior isn’t even Sakazuki. My superior is the Five Elders. Without their command, it’s none of my business. That’s your problem—stop trying to pass the buck.”
Kuro’s superior truly wasn’t Sakazuki. Or rather, Sakazuki was only half a rank above him. Overall, their ranks were equal. The Fleet Admiral and Admiral were both Fleet Admirals, serving under the World Government, directly governed by the Five Elders. The Five Elders simply consulted Sakazuki more often for certain matters. Within the Navy system, Sakazuki was the de facto leader.
“Third.”
Kuro bit down on his cigar, exhaling a puff of smoke. The smoke didn’t dissipate but condensed into a swirling mass flying toward them. In midair, it split into two, encircling their heads(End of Chapter)
