...
Lu HaiKong and the old chief stared at each other for a few seconds. Then, with remarkable composure, Lu HaiKong led Dian Wei to stand before the old chief.
"Young man, what brings you here so late?" The old chief gazed at Lu HaiKong with keen interest, like a cunning wolf eyeing its prey trapped within its circle.
From the moment the fire outside started, the old chief knew that someone had grown restless this night.
Noticing Lu HaiKong's silence, the old chief continued, "Judging by your attire and appearance, you're probably a Han. Are you with Li Xiong? Are you his newly recruited subordinate, or a new ally he's found?"
Lu HaiKong tilted his head, seemingly deep in thought, ignoring the chief.
"Are you wondering why I don't seem badly injured, even though I should be?" The old chief's eyes glinted with mockery. "If I didn't pretend this way, how could I tell which of my sons is a black-eyed wolf and which is a loyal son?"
"You're young and don't understand. Old people, especially those in high positions like me, the chief of a tribe, fear death. The power I hold is like a delicious poison, attracting my brothers, my sons, and even my followers to fight and fall one after another. I don't want to die early, so I set up this little scheme, pretending to be seriously injured and on the verge of death, allowing the one who attacked me to act without restraint. When they think everything is settled, I'll come out and crush them."
"How about it? Isn't this plan perfect? With this scheme, I can suppress those unruly fellows, ensuring a few more years of stable leadership." The old chief was candid, feeling no need to hide anything from his trapped prey, and proud of his perfect plan.
Just as Lu HaiKong was about to speak, he heard someone outside inquiring about the situation, only to be turned away by the guards. It was clear that the old man had made preparations, intending to take lives tonight.
The old chief, with an air of confidence, said, "Alright, kid, you're here for Hu YinWen, right? I didn't expect him to make such a mistake at a time like this..."
"Enough, old man, shut up!" Lu HaiKong was speechless. Since entering, the old man in front of him had been chattering non-stop.
"I don't care about your perfect plans. I can only say I'm sorry, but since you're blocking my path, I have to kill you!"
The old chief was stunned by Lu HaiKong's words, then laughed. "Kid, do you know how many people are hiding in this room?"
As the old chief finished speaking, over a dozen men emerged from various corners. Lu HaiKong quickly scanned the room, and to his surprise, not a single person had a strength value below sixty. Instantly, he understood why the old man was so confident.
"Well, kid, do you still have the nerve to say you'll kill me?" The old chief gloated.
Ignoring the old chief, Lu HaiKong took a few steps back and said to Dian Wei, "Act fast. Just wound the old man, and leave the final blow to me."
Without another word, Lu HaiKong headed towards the large table on the left side of the tent, where some valuable items seemed to be placed. He intended to examine them carefully, paying no further attention to the situation here, as it was merely a slaughter.
Due to Lu HaiKong's lengthy weapons, he entered the camp unarmed. However, Dian Wei, who always carried a pair of spears with him, immediately drew them out at Lu HaiKong's command. In the blink of an eye, Dian Wei entered the Demon State.
A terrifying aura surged forth, instantly freezing the former leader's once-confident and proud expression.
To the former leader's disbelief, Dian Wei had already killed over a dozen Xianbei men. These men, with strength values around 60, were no match for Dian Wei, and within minutes, they lay dead beneath his spears.
Brutal, terrifying, and ferocious, Dian Wei fought like a demon seeking souls.
The slain Xianbei men, however, had some reason for their demise. They were natives, more adept at mounted combat than infantry warfare. Furthermore, to better conceal their presence, they had left their weapons behind, inherently reducing their combat effectiveness. Facing Dian Wei in infantry combat, they had no chance to escape.
If it had been a mounted battle or if these Xianbei men had been armed, they might have lasted a few more moves against Dian Wei, perhaps even allowing one or two to escape. Unfortunately, they didn't have that opportunity.
Gazing at the corpses strewn across the ground, the former leader's confidence evaporated. This was the first time he had encountered such a terrifying enemy, aside from the Bingzhou Tiger. He had no courage to fight Dian Wei, but as he opened his mouth to call for help, Dian Wei's quick reflexes came into play. With a swift move, he threw his iron spear, tearing the former leader's mouth apart and silencing his cry.
Lu HaiKong, who had been examining the items on the table, was startled by this scene. He hastily stuffed the items of interest into his pockets and rushed over to take Dian Wei's spear, using it to finish off the former leader.
