Chapter 123: Dawn Society
Chapter 123: Dawn Society
The members of the Iron Fist Gang, upon seeing Jiang Cheng, approached with smiles and greetings.
Jiang Cheng, perplexed, walked over to them.
When he was about two or three meters away, he stopped.
"Who are you looking for?"
"Are you Jiang Cheng?" asked a man who appeared to be in his thirties, with a cheerful smile.
Beside him was a woman in her twenties, with long hair draped over her shoulders and a straight fringe, her face cold and expressionless.
"And who are you?" Jiang Cheng asked.
"Don't be nervous," the man said, holding up his hands with palms facing out. "We mean no harm. We're here to discuss something with you. I'm Red Tea, and this is Nightingale."
"Huh?" Jiang Cheng's face showed confusion.
"Forgive us," Red Tea explained. "We're from a rather mysterious organization. For our mutual safety and convenience in our operations, we all adopt codenames. If you'd like to know more, would you mind inviting us in?"
He glanced around, noticing several onlookers watching them.
Jiang Cheng hesitated for a moment before nodding.
After unlocking the door, he gestured for them to enter.
Red Tea surveyed the room, smiling. "It's clear you're a tidy person; the place is well-kept."
Nightingale, on the other hand, kept her gaze forward, saying nothing.
"It's nothing," Jiang Cheng said, shaking his head. He poured a bowl of water for each of them. "But how do you know my name?"
"We know more than just your name," Red Tea said with a smile. "We're aware that your situation has become somewhat dire."
Jiang Cheng's face paled slightly, but he remained silent.
"Actually, you did the right thing," Red Tea continued. "If you hadn't taken the initiative, and instead waited for them to attack, the outcome might have been drastically different. Moreover, those people have committed countless crimes. If left unchecked, they would only harm more innocent lives in other places."
As he spoke, a flash of anger crossed his eyes.
The woman beside him narrowed her eyes slightly.
"So, you found me because of that incident?" Jiang Cheng asked curiously.
"Exactly," Red Tea said with a smile. "You have no idea how much your actions have resonated with others. Many people, even those who don't know it was you, secretly praise your heroic deed."
"Well..." Jiang Cheng felt a bit embarrassed. "I was forced into it. They were going to attack me, so I had to take the initiative."
Red Tea was taken aback, then laughed even harder.
The black-haired woman's eyes also flashed with a hint of admiration.
"But because of this, the Iron Fist Gang has taken notice of you," Red Tea said, his smile fading. "If I'm not mistaken, they gave you three choices this morning: join, leave, or die. Am I right?"
Jiang Cheng looked at him for a moment and then nodded.
Clearly, this man was well-informed about the Iron Fist Gang.
"So, what do you plan to do?" Red Tea asked.
Jiang Cheng replied slowly, "Joining them is out of the question. The Iron Fist Gang is no different from the Wild Wolf Gang; they both thrive on exploiting ordinary people. If I choose to join them, I'd become the very thing I despise. As for dying, that's not an option for any sane person. So, I can only leave and go elsewhere."
"Where will you go?"
"I don't know yet," Jiang Cheng shook his head.
Red Tea seemed pleased with this answer and said, "Since you have nowhere to go, why not join our Dawn Society?"
"Dawn Society? The mysterious organization behind you?" Jiang Cheng's pupils dilated.
Actually, when he was at the door, he had already guessed their intention, which was why he opened it.
Having one more choice wasn't a bad thing for him at this point.
Of course, it wasn't that he would choose just anything; he had to investigate thoroughly.
"Not bad," Red Tea said, suddenly putting on a serious face.
"Where there is darkness, there is light; where there is evil, there is justice; where there is oppression, there is resistance; and where there is dusk, there is dawn."
To be honest, if Jiang Cheng had heard this on TV, he would have felt embarrassed, and his scalp would have tingled as if he was scratching out a three-bedroom house with his toes.
What era was this, still playing this kind of tune?
But, being deeply entrenched in this dark environment, he felt a surge of warmth throughout his body, as if a flame was rising from the depths of his heart.
"Our Dawn Society was established with the purpose of punishing evil and promoting goodness. Even if our power is not yet strong, as long as we persevere, the spark will eventually ignite into a prairie fire! This is also why we've approached you, Jiang Cheng. Will you join us?" Red Tea asked with a smile.
The other person's words were infectious and aligned with Jiang Cheng's values, but he was also a seasoned individual, not some naive university student who would join after hearing a few words.
So, he took a deep breath and said, "What benefits would I get if I join you?"
The black-haired woman beside him, who had been silent until now, suddenly glared with discontent in her eyes.
Red Tea, however, didn't seem to mind and chuckled. "Little brother, you're indeed straightforward and frank. I like dealing with people like you. Punishing evil is a good thing, but those who do it also need to eat and spend money. Without benefits, it's hard to persist."
Jiang Cheng nodded, feeling that the other person wasn't bad.
"The first benefit is that you'll have a place to go. Our Dawn Society has many secret outposts, and we even have properties in the Outer Borough. When you're not on a mission, you can live in these places. If you have family, we can also arrange for them to move to the Outer Borough, and we'll have someone responsible for their safety."
Jiang Cheng's heart skipped a beat when he heard this.
He had been worried about his family's situation and couldn't just stay at White Shexie's house forever.
Even if White Shexie could withstand the pressure, Jiang Cheng couldn't just do nothing and not be a responsible husband.
If the Dawn Society could protect his family, that would solve his biggest problem. Of course, if he thought about it the other way around, it could also mean his family would be used as leverage.
"The second benefit is that you'll have access to Secret Arts."
Red Tea's voice continued, "Your skills are impressive, and you were even able to take down Li Tai, the bodyguard of the Wild Wolf Gang's leader. However, at this point, you're nearing the limit of what an ordinary person can achieve. To go further, you need to absorb Primordial Force. Our Dawn Society is genuinely committed to cultivating our members, so when new members join, we provide them with free Secret Arts and corresponding Secret Medicines to help them sense the Primordial Force and become Primordial Energy Warriors."
"If you succeed, your treatment will be upgraded. Even if you fail, don't worry; usually, only one or two Primordial Energy Warriors can be cultivated from 100 people. Our society still has many benefits for them, and if they perform well, they can get another chance to sense the Primordial Force."
