Chapter 1224: How Could Someone Like You Understand "Ideal"?
Chapter 1224: How Could Someone Like You Understand "Ideal"?
Shanks' eyes darkened as he stared at Kuro. "You—"
Kuro said calmly, "He got lucky and escaped. Don't give me that look like you're ready to fight me to the death. In your current condition, there's no way you could beat me."
Saying this, he sat cross-legged on the ground without caring about the dirt.
Before long, Domino came running with two bottles of wine.
Thanks to the Admiral's earlier display of power, she hadn't encountered any harassment on her way back, and returned quickly with the drinks.
Kuro took the wine and casually opened one bottle. With a flick of his finger, the bottle flew into the fence. He then said to Domino, "Thanks. You can go back now. I need to talk to him alone."
After Domino left, Kuro opened his own bottle and raised it toward Shanks. "Here. This is the wine you were waiting for. Drink with me."
Without waiting for Shanks' response, he took several gulps, then lowered the bottle and exhaled deeply.
"This kind of wine pirates like to drink is truly terrible", he said, wiping his mouth.
Across from him, Shanks opened his mouth, bit the neck of the bottle, and tilted it back. After drinking, he chuckled, "It's harsh, right? But that's what pirates are like—harsh and not sweet. Yet on the Grand Line, this kind of wine is essential. Just like pirates themselves, it won't disappear from the Grand Line."
Kuro, chewing on a cigar, asked, "Know why I didn't strongly oppose being stationed in Wano Country, Red-Haired Shanks?"
He didn't wait for Red-Haired Shanks to ask before continuing, "From the moment I took over Gramps' position, I knew I wouldn't be as carefree as before. That's why I didn't strongly oppose being stationed in Wano Country. Also, when the higher-ups ordered me there, I didn't resist either."
"I've realized something—clinging only to safety won't bring safety, and longing only for retirement won't grant retirement. Safety has many definitions. If I suppress the New World completely, making you pirates too afraid to move, isn't that also a form of safety?"
"You Four Emperors Era pirates have been ended by me. Do you think I'm inferior to the so-called new generation? Don't underestimate the Navy, you arrogant old pirate."
He exhaled a puff of smoke. "The higher-ups see 'Red' as a threat, so she might indeed be one. If I don't investigate thoroughly, it'll be hard for me to stabilize the New World. Tell me, what exactly is 'Red'?"
Red-Haired Shanks sighed. "The Moon Tribe—you probably know about them. Twelve years ago, we raided a World Government ship, obtained the rubber Devil Fruit, and rescued a Moon Tribe woman who was with it. After we saved her, she set sail alone. I only heard rumors about her again later in the New World."
He lifted his head, staring at Kuro. "Have you heard of 'Ideal Village', Kuro?"
"I heard the old men mention it once—it's an organization."
If not for knowing they're unrelated—she's called 'Red', not 'that Stupid Hair'—he might have thought the New World was about to get a Knight King.
"Ideal Village", Red-Haired Shanks smiled slightly. "Founded by 'Red'. Its purpose..."
"To let people achieve happiness."
Kuro blinked. "Happiness? That sounds good."
...
On the island beneath Wano Country, the battle raged on within the white energy.
Three thousand versus six thousand—Kas considered this an advantage.
Shared damage, unparalleled speed, and the Vinsmoke-enhanced physical constitution and combat techniques of the Dougleg Navy Unit made them unbeatable in large-scale combat.
Indeed, within the white energy, Kas' forces were overwhelming the pirates.
But strangely, no matter how many times these pirates were knocked down, even when their physical strength was nearly exhausted, they still gripped their weapons and kept fighting.
Especially Yin Lawa. Within the white energy, his fists, charged with Haki, continuously bombarded the enemy. Though the damage was shared, the relentless attacks still caused Kas pain.
Kas could endure this, but what baffled him was why these pirates had such strong fighting will.
Kas had encountered many pirates. The most memorable were the Whitebeard Pirates—those men's willpower was terrifying. But even then, it was only Whitebeard's main fleet. Though his own captain's will was acceptable, the subordinates' willpower was ordinary, like regular pirates—once casualties mounted or despair set in, their fighting spirit naturally faded.
But these pirates were different. They were like the Whitebeard Pirates during the Marineford era, driven by some goal they must achieve. Even when outmatched, they still fought relentlessly.
Bang!
Within the white energy, several precise attacks struck a dodging figure, creating thunderous booms.
Yin Lawa grunted, his body rocketing backward out of the white energy, carving a furrow along the ground as he skidded to a stop. One hand gripped the earth like a squirrel landing.
He lifted his head, glaring at the swirling white energy, his expression sour.
These enemies were tough.
He knew his own strength well—his fists could shatter ships. Yet against this white energy, the effect was minimal.
But fortunately, their attacks were nothing special—his Haki could handle them.
At least, that was how it was.
He looked down at the wounds on his chest, then back at the white energy.
From the swirling energy, a faint figure slowly emerged. The person carried a cross-shaped spear, its blade stained with Yin Lawa's blood.
"Human Martial Spear", Yin Lawa said grimly.
"You know?" Donald asked, surprised.
Yin Lawa stood, inhaling deeply and stretching his limbs. "I'm from West Blue's Insect Country, a hereditary enemy of Flower Country. I'm familiar with Flower Country's Distinguished Daimyo's 'Human Martial Spear' martial arts."
"Oh? So we're from the same sea? But you're just a self-taught brute."
Donald twirled his spear, eyeing Yin Lawa. "That's less like a fist technique and more like instinct. I've heard of you, but I didn't expect your style to actually match your reputation."
Yin Lawa's lips curled into a sinister grin. "Any technique that defeats enemies is a good one!"
Donald shook his head, spear tip pointing at Yin Lawa. "You're not my match. Surrender while you still can. You don't seem like a bad guy—surrender, and you might live."
Combat reveals a person's true nature.
As Kas' subordinate and his "spear", he specialized in eliminating individuals like Yin Lawa, where numbers wouldn't grant an advantage.
This man's techniques were open and forceful, fierce but lacking hidden tricks. He despised underhanded methods.
Such a man couldn't be truly evil.
"Surrender?"
Yin Lawa laughed bitterly, as if hearing a joke. "Let me surrender to the lapdog of the wicked World Government? Don't dream. You people will never understand what 'ideal' truly means!"
