Chapter 1220: Ideal Country
Chapter 1220: Ideal Country
New World.
A sea area northwest of Wano Country.
This was Kaido's territory, a maritime zone containing two islands near the borderlands. Only a small number of pirates were stationed here.
The news of the Four Emperors Era ending had spread across the world like wildfire, naturally triggering chaos. Nowhere more so than the New World, which had become a boiling pot of unrest, its container no longer able to hold the pressure.
Pirates across the seas had begun operations. In the northwest border of Kaido's domain, the pirates stationed at this sea area had also considered declaring independence—but it seemed they would never get the chance.
The island was engulfed in flames.
Three pirate ships bearing a flag with headphones and musical notes were docked at the shore. From the firestorm emerged figures clad in form-fitting uniforms.
At the forefront stood a lean, sharp-eyed man holding a Transponder Snail. Facing away from the inferno, he spoke into the receiver: "Mission accomplished."
The Transponder Snail's expression remained calm, its simulated whiskers twitching as it stroked its chin thoughtfully. A faint voice replied:
"Excellent. The other teams are the same. Press forward relentlessly as planned."
"Understood."
The sharp-eyed man nodded, lifting his gaze toward the Grand Line, his expression resolute with a flicker of passion. "Everything for our dream's ideal village!!"
The Transponder Snail disconnected.
In a dimly lit room, a shadow placed the receiver down. Turning toward the narrow gap in the door, faint rays of light and distant, melodious sounds seeped through.
As the music played, the figure stretched its head forward, body motionless, as if entranced.
After a while, it raised its arm toward the light, but the hand froze mid-motion before dropping back down.
Staring blankly at the sliver of light from the door, the figure murmured after a long silence: "Yes... our ideal village."
...
Wano Country.
Inside the Castle Tower.
Clack-clack-clack.
With rapid footsteps, Wilbur slid open the shoji door to Kas's office. "Kas!"
Kas, who was reviewing documents, looked up.
"You're just in time. The Rabbit Onsen project is progressing, but I think it's too slow. How's your end?"
Wilbur paused, then replied, "Almost there. The people of Wano Country are starting to accept our Justicefaith, but due to security concerns and CP0's presence, we haven't distributed many physical copies. Most rely on explanatory sessions. I've found the locals are more receptive to verbal explanations."
"Some citizens have even started volunteering as lecturers. I've woven in some stories about Mr. Kuro. For now, Mr. Kuro would be satisfied seeing a stable Flower Capital. As for other regions, time will resolve those issues."
Suddenly remembering something, he added, "But that's not why I'm here, Kas! Something's happened!"
Kas narrowed his eyes. "What?"
"Kuzan called. A Pirate Alliance has breached the area he was guarding."
Kas's expression darkened. "You mean Kuzan failed to block them? How strong are they?!"
"No, he blocked them. But there's a new problem—the Pirate Alliance claims the 'ideal village' has mobilized. Their operations are why pirates are now exploiting Kaido's territory for gains. We've tried contacting the pirates stationed around Wano Country, but many have gone silent."
Wilbur approached the wall, pointing at the massive map of Kaido's influence. "We've confirmed that from the northwest to the northeast, this 'ideal village' is like a gaping maw, devouring and closing in on us."
Kas frowned. "We never had full control over Kaido's entire territory. Our original strategy was to abandon other regions and focus on stabilizing Wano Country first. But..."
He stood, gazing out the window. "No one can come too close to Wano Country. This is Mr. Kuro's domain. Wilbur, prepare. We'll go down to meet the enemy ourselves."
"Understood!"
Wilbur nodded firmly, his expression resolute. "No one will stop our great cause!"
Kas raised his fist. "Yes! Everything for the great cause!"
...
"Everything for the World Government!"
In Mariejois, the Pangu Palace.
Power.
Five.
Five old men spoke in unison. Standing before them, Kuro felt bewildered.
He had just arrived, barely exchanging two words, when the five elders alternated between ordering him to stay in Wano Country and assuring him everything was under control, ending with "Everything for the World Government!"
What was going on?
He had been lectured by Sakazuki back at Headquarters, then lectured again here by these five elders. Was the Grand Line even playable anymore?
"Oh, right."
The curly-haired elder suddenly spoke. "Kuro, you have another mission in Wano Country—investigate whether 'Red' is still alive."
"Red?" Kuro frowned. "Who? Red Earl? Did Shanks escape?"
The blade-wielding elder looked slightly annoyed. "Don't underestimate Impel Down's strength, Kuro. It's one of the World Government's three major institutions."
Kuro rolled his eyes internally. He wanted to respect that claim, but reality made it impossible.
After all, the biggest breakout in history had already happened. Before that, many had escaped too.
Shanks had escaped on his own—fine, he was a legendary pirate.
But Fujitora, one of the Six Crimson Stars, had also escaped. How could he respect Impel Down's reputation when facts kept contradicting it?
"You should visit Impel Down", the bearded elder instructed. "Shanks likely knows information. The best approach is to extract from him whether 'Red' is alive. They have some history."
The map-reading elder nodded toward Kuro. "Even if Shanks stays silent, there's an organization called 'ideal village' in the New World's rear. It's said to be her creation."
"She?" Kuro's brow furrowed.
"A woman?"
The red-skinned elder continued:
"We can't enter the New World ourselves, but since you're rooted in Wano Country, you can act when the opportunity arises. Don't rush. First, confirm if she's alive. If she is, capture her alive. We need this woman. She's from the Moon Tribe, like the Ash you captured. After returning, send Ash to us. If that's difficult, execute him on-site."
"Oh?"
Kuro narrowed his eyes.
When had that bastard Shanks gotten involved with the Moon Tribe?
And...
Why hadn't they acted earlier? Now that things had already gone sideways, they wanted to trouble others.
What a pain in the ass!
