Chapter 122: The Student Council Bullies Assemble in the Shadow World
Chapter 122: The Student Council Bullies Assemble in the Shadow World
The sky at dawn was still a mix of blue and gray, with a few lonely stars clinging to the curtain, reluctant to part.
The entire Ikelite Academy was still asleep, enveloped in tranquility.
The morning fog was thick, and the air was damp and fresh.
Despite the early hour, the three members of the Model Civilians squad had gathered as promised, strolling leisurely along the broad campus roads shrouded in dusk after enjoying their breakfast.
"This time, the three of us will wreak havoc in the Shadow World."
"...You two wreak havoc, and I'll cheer you on."
"You've got to protect me, Hyperian. Fred won't care about me!"
The trio seemed to relish the quiet campus and fresh air at 5 a.m.
Over the past month, the newly joined Fred had become quite the partner in crime with Lanchi and Hyperian.
Although Lanchi and Hyperian spent more time together on days when they had classes at the Sage's Institute, whenever they headed to the student council room after class, they would most likely run into Fred.
Sometimes, Fred would be lounging on the sofa reading newspapers, playing chess with the president, or disappearing without a trace.
Lanchi always joked that their trio had finally assembled the holy trinity of tank, warrior, and priest.
But Hyperian felt that they were more like rogue, hunter, and shaman.
She had transformed into a stealthy rogue herself.
Fred's combat role was neither a tank nor a warrior; he was a trap-focused hunter.
And Lanchi, that good-for-nothing, would just stand there with his nauseating aura-summoned creatures, like a shaman.
To this day, Hyperian was baffled as to how the three of them managed to work together effectively in the Shadow World.
When it came to school affairs, whenever President Monaste entrusted them with a task, Hyperian would take the lead like a bank clerk, explaining the student council's intentions to the other party.
Usually, at this stage, most freshmen, upon seeing Lanchi and Fred standing not too far away, would be very cooperative.
As for those students who still refused to cooperate, full of personality...
Hyperian maintained a certain distance and left the communication to Lanchi and Fred.
So far, their work had never received any complaints or negative feedback.
Even the president said they were doing a fine job.
However, Hyperian couldn't help but wonder why the academy had started spreading rumors about the "Royal Capital's Trio of Bullies"...
Two months since their enrollment had quietly slipped by, and it was now November.
On this crisp autumn morning, the air was laced with a chill, as if all warmth had been frozen by the vanguard of winter.
Even though it was Friday, a school day, the campus was sparsely populated due to the early hour.
Occasionally, they spotted a couple of maintenance staff and some peculiar students carrying party and camping gear toward the Gera Memorial Square.
The trio exchanged puzzled glances, confused by this sight.
Soon, they arrived at the heart of Ikelite Academy—
Even at dawn, the deep blue iron walls of the Rubik's Cube, sealed with layer upon layer of powerful barrier spells, exuded an aura of solemnity and isolation, guarding the portal to the void. Members of the Royal Palace Knight's Order remained vigilant, patrolling the premises.
The trio went through the first security checkpoint at the entrance, using their student rings and registered challenger licenses to pass through the sole main gate, followed by more security checks.
"In two days, the academic delegation from Aloran Academy will arrive at our academy for a two-week academic exchange," Lanchi whispered in the corridor, his voice echoing in the empty, solemn environment.
"I wonder how long we'll be staying in the Shadow World this time."
He continued, a hint of guilt flashing in his eyes, as if regretting that he couldn't contribute to the upcoming academic visit.
Although the president had assured them not to worry about student council matters and focus on conquering the Shadow World, Lanchi still felt responsible for maintaining harmony within the campus.
While they were away in the Shadow World, the student council would maintain a presence on campus, with at least three members on duty, including the secretary, who would be working overtime.
The president and secretary were clerical staff from the Alchemist's Institute and didn't need to challenge the Shadow World, while Vice President Asina was an extremely powerful psychic wizard. However, her rank was far below theirs, making it impossible to team up.
She had expressed that she couldn't keep up with their pace and that even if her rank reached within two tiers of theirs in the future, it still wouldn't be a good fit for teaming up. She was more accustomed to working in tandem with the president.
Amid Lanchi's exclamations, Fred nodded in agreement.
"If it's like the last time, where you two finished it in a day, we can come back and help the Student Council President the day after." Fred replied in a calm tone, a smile playing on his lips as if he too hoped to be of assistance to the President.
The duration of their stay in the Shadow World was always unpredictable. Although, generally, the higher the rank of the Shadow World, the longer the duration of the stay, but there was a significant amount of variation.
"We'll most likely be back soon, so you two don't need to worry."
Hearing the exchange between the two, Hyperian, who had initially planned to remain silent, sighed helplessly.
She desperately hoped for a longer stay in the Shadow World.
Lanchi and Fred, these two rising stars, did not represent the average or normal standard of the Kingdom of Horton or Ikelite Academy.
Having them return to the real world as members of the student council, handling official matters related to the academic delegation from Aloran, filled Hyperian with worry that it would give the international friends from Aloran the wrong impression of the current national quality of the Kingdom of Horton.
And Hyperian, who had always been the most prudent one, would somehow always get implicated! Her already precarious reputation was now plummeting towards that of a monster!
Under the lamplight, the shadows of the three stretched out endlessly on the quiet corridor, until they finally stepped into the interior of the building.
In the distance, the giant door that led to another Shadow World still reflected the deep, starry glow.
"Fred, do you have our Model Civilians squad's team card with you?" Lanchi asked, looking at the final checkpoint and the counter ahead, and then at the empty hall early in the morning.
All they needed to do was register their challenger licenses here, let the staff check their equipped Shadow World Recording Programs, and they could proceed to the void gate ahead for challenge matching.
If they also wanted to use the Shadow World Synergy Program for a team challenge, they would need to register their team information.
"No problem." Fred took out the Model Civilians squad's team card, a confident smile on his face.
Despite this being his first challenge in a real Shadow World, his demeanor did not seem like that of a newcomer.
Subsequently, the three of them handed their respective licenses and two magic cards to the staff at the checkpoint counter, waiting for the staff of the South Continent Shadow World Management Association to complete the registration procedure for them.
Since they were teaming up, there would be a relationship of trust and cooperation, and the overall strength of the team would undoubtedly be much stronger than that of strangers who were matched separately. Therefore, as the number of team members increased, the difficulty would also increase significantly compared to individual challenges.
"Alright, when you come out, just let me read your Shadow World Recording Programs, and you can get back your challenger licenses." The young female staff member smiled and returned the magic cards to the three diligent and enthusiastic students, and then the gate in front of them opened.
The three of them expressed their thanks, retrieved their magic cards, and then walked straight towards the void gate.
From a distance of about a hundred steps, they chatted and laughed casually until they reached the gate that led to the void.
The void gate resembled a bottomless black hole; just standing in front of it, one could feel an invisible pulling force as if it wanted to suck all living beings into this endless unknown world.
"Partners, are you ready?" Lanchi raised his hand high and stretched lazily, asking Hyperian and Fred.
"With you here, I'm not afraid." Hyperian smiled, no longer feeling the hidden fear and hesitation in her heart as she did the first time she entered the Shadow World.
"I can't wait." This void gate seemed to excite Fred just as much as the entrance to the Ikelite Crown Casino.
Along with his words, they passed through the void gate, like a surface of water.
Immediately, they were enveloped in complete darkness, unable to see anything, and even their heartbeats seemed inaudible.
It felt like countless gears were spinning and meshing, their rumbling echoing through this pitch-black space.
