Chapter 122: Harvest (Part 5)
Chapter 122: Harvest (Part 5)
The Blood Absorption Art could extract the blood of a demon beast shortly after its death.
The Split-clawed Demon Wolf lay on the ground, its body riddled with wounds as blood oozed out and quickly congealed, making it impossible to obtain the demon blood through normal means.
Mo Hua pointed at the heart meridian of the Split-claw and instructed Da Hu, "Make a cut here."
Although Da Hu was perplexed, he drew his knife and pierced the heart meridian of the Split-claw.
The Split-claw's body was resilient, and it took several stabs from Da Hu to create a small opening.
Mo Hua placed the jade bottle at the incision and pressed his palm near the heart meridian, sensing the still-fresh demon blood flowing beneath the fur. He then activated his spiritual sense according to the key points of the Blood Absorption Art, guiding the demon blood into the jade bottle.
These jade bottles were made from a special type of jade that wasn't particularly precious, but it could preserve spiritual energy and keep the demon blood from spoiling for a period of time.
Mo Hua's jade bottle originally contained spirit ink, and now he was reusing it after the ink had been used up.
Using the Blood Absorption Art, Mo Hua drew the demon blood into the jade bottle until it was full. He then sealed it and took out another bottle to continue the process.
In total, Mo Hua collected ten bottles of demon blood before stopping.
There wasn't much blood left in the Split-claw's veins, and it was gradually cooling and flowing more slowly, reducing its effectiveness. There was no need to continue extracting it.
Mo Hua had consumed a considerable amount of spiritual sense, roughly equivalent to drawing seven or eight array patterns.
While this might have been a heavy burden for an ordinary cultivator, it was not a big deal for an array master like Mo Hua.
Mo Hua meditated to restore some of his spiritual sense.
Looking at the ten bottles of demon blood in his storage bag, Mo Hua couldn't help but smile.
This demon blood would be more than enough for him to create numerous arrays.
The three brothers, Da Hu, Shuang Hu, and Xiao Hu, curiously examined the jade bottle and then glanced at Mo Hua.
Xiao Hu asked, "Is this blood useful?"
"Yes, it's used for drawing arrays," Mo Hua replied.
"Can we help you collect demon blood?" Xiao Hu inquired.
"You would need to know the Blood Absorption Art to do that," Mo Hua explained.
Mo Hua briefly explained the usage of the Blood Absorption Art to them.
The three brothers listened with confusion, ultimately deciding to give up on the idea.
"Mo Hua, you sure know a lot," Shuang Hu praised, with Da Hu and Xiao Hu nodding in agreement.
Mo Hua laughed and said, "Reading more books will make you knowledgeable too."
After storing away the demon blood, Mo Hua asked, "What should we do with this demon beast now?"
The three brothers' spirits lifted at the mention of this. This was their first time killing a demon beast on their own, and now they could also skin it and sell the parts!
Although they had relied mostly on Mo Hua's array, they were still thrilled.
"We need to skin it, remove the bones, cut out the teeth and claws, and take the heart, meridians, and internal organs..." Shuang Hu listed the parts one by one.
Mo Hua scratched his head, feeling completely clueless about these tasks. He had no idea how to go about any of this.
"You can explore the area nearby, but don't go too far. We'll finish skinning this demon beast and then we'll head back together," Da Hu suggested.
The three brothers then rolled up their sleeves, took out their knives, and began the process of skinning the demon beast and extracting the valuable materials.
Just an hour ago, the Split-claw had been glaring at them menacingly, but now it lay there in a pitiful state.
Mo Hua did not feel any sympathy, though. If it hadn't been a demon beast that died, it could very well have been them being torn apart.
This demon beast had drooled with a foul stench, and it had likely taken the lives of many demon hunters.
As the three brothers worked on the demon beast, Mo Hua wandered around, taking in the sights of the mountains, trees, and water, familiarizing himself with the environment of Da Hei Mountain.
This was his first time venturing into Da Hei Mountain.
When they had entered the mountain in the morning, he had felt tense and oppressed, but now, after spending half a day here, designing the array to kill the Split-claw and collecting its blood, he felt much more composed.
Afterward, only slight adjustments would be needed for different demon beasts.
This way, even though Mo Hua was not a body cultivator, he could still participate in demon hunting, targeting different beasts to absorb their blood and cultivate the five elements.
Once Da Hu, Shuang Hu, and Xiao Hu had finished skinning the Split-claw, they called for Mo Hua, and the four of them left Da Hei Mountain.
They had entered the mountain in the morning, hunted the demon at noon, and were now leaving as evening fell.
In less than a day, they had managed to slay a mid-first-grade demon beast, and all with just four people.
If not for their bulging storage bags filled with the Split-claw's hide, fur, and claws, the three brothers would have thought they were dreaming.
Afterward, they went to the market square and sold off the materials they had obtained from the demon beast.
The Split-claw was a relatively common type of demon beast, so it wouldn't fetch an exorbitant price, but there was also no worry about finding buyers.
After some haggling, they sold everything for a total of just over eighty spirit stones.
Subtracting the cost of the spirit stones Mo Hua had used for his array and its activation, they each received a share of twelve spirit stones.
Holding the weighty spirit stones in their hands, the three brothers stared blankly, still unable to quite believe their good fortune.
In their entire lives, they had never earned so many spirit stones, but for Mo Hua, this was already becoming a familiar occurrence, and he was happy to see their excited reactions.
"Mo Hua, it's all thanks to you. Whatever you want to eat, we'll treat you!" Da Hu exclaimed.
"Yes, we'll treat you!" Shuang Hu and Xiao Hu eagerly nodded in agreement.
"No need," Mo Hua waved his hand, "I also owe you for your help. Keep the spirit stones for now, and next time we have free time, we'll go into the mountains again."
Demon beasts possessed robust physical bodies and their blood energy recovered quickly. While Mo Hua could use his arrays to severely injure or even bring them to the brink of death, he might not be able to kill them directly.
Since he was not a body cultivator and lacked skill in close combat, he still needed Da Hu and the others to finish the job.
Although he had learned the Flowing Water Step, which allowed him to evade and entangle with demon beasts, he saw no need to take such risks.
After all, overconfidence often led to disaster.
After selling the demon beast's remains and dividing the spirit stones, the group looked up to see the bright lights of the street lamps illuminating the road.
As night fell, the streets gradually became more bustling.
Mo Hua, who had been busy practicing his array techniques and spells, hadn't ventured out in a while and was enjoying the sights.
The same was true for Da Hu, Shuang Hu, and Xiao Hu, who had been weighed down by the pressures of becoming demon hunters. Now, with a successful hunt under their belts, they felt a sense of relief and lightness as they strolled along the street, taking in the novel and lively atmosphere before eventually bidding each other farewell and heading home.
On the way, Xiao Hu asked, "What should we use these spirit stones for?"
Shuang Hu thought for a moment before replying, "I want to give them to Mother."
The three brothers fell silent, then gathered their spirit stones together—a total of more than thirty.
By the time they returned home, it was already quite late. Meng Dan was reheating their dinner, and upon seeing them, she couldn't help but chastise them, "Where have you three been all day? You didn't even eat, and I had to reheat the food several times..."
Da Hu handed over his storage bag to her.
Meng Dan took it, feeling its weight, and asked in confusion, "What's this?"
When she opened it and saw the contents—over thirty shimmering spirit stones—she froze.
"Mother, these are the spirit stones we earned from hunting demons. Please take them," Xiao Hu said.
It took Meng Dan a while to recover from her surprise. Looking at her three children, who had somehow grown up without her noticing, she felt tears welling up in her eyes.
She felt a sense of gratification and tried to smile, but the tears still flowed.
In her life, she had shed many tears—salty and bitter—but today, her tears were those of joy.
