Chapter 1218: Didn't Pay the Bill Again!
Chapter 1218: Didn't Pay the Bill Again!
Outside Headquarters Castle Tower, Kuro stepped out and stared at the sky for a long moment before turning toward the Marineford-scale Fleet Admiral’s office. He pressed his lips together, then muttered, “What the hell!”
Report for duty?
He’d come here just to get scolded and lectured.
Sakazuki the Iron Blood, the man known for ruthless actions and few words, had actually ranted for ages. Utterly absurd!
But judging from this, he really couldn’t escape it—stationing in Wano Country was unavoidable.
Kuro sighed deeply.
“Kuro?”
A voice interrupted his thoughts. He glanced sideways and snapped, “At least call me Admiral, Smoker!”
Approaching was Smoker, biting three Coiled Snake Cigars bound together, and Tashigi trailing behind him.
Tashigi lifted Shigure in one hand and raised the other in a crisp Navy salute. “Kuro Admiral.”
Her expression was bright with excitement.
“Long time no see, Tashigi. You’ve gotten even more radiant.”
Kuro nodded, then turned to Smoker. “Aren’t you supposed to be guarding G-5? Why’re you here at Headquarters?”
“Reporting for duty and requesting reinforcements,” Smoker replied, exhaling a plume of smoke. “You’ve stirred up quite the mess. Now that the Grand Line’s in chaos, G-5 needs more strength.”
Tashigi couldn’t contain her excitement. “Ending the Four Emperors Era, wiping out all wickedness—it’s incredible, Kuro Admiral!”
“Just Opportunity Seizing,” Kuro shrugged. He flicked a finger, and one of the coiled cigars from Smoker’s coat shot out, landing in his hand. “Light this for me.”
He bit the cigar and leaned toward Smoker.
“Hey, you again! Don’t you have your own cigars?!”
A blue vein throbbed on Smoker’s temple, but he still pulled out a lighter to ignite it.
“This occasional lowbrow pleasure…”
“Shut up!”
Smoker cut off Kuro’s teasing with a growl. “You came here just to annoy me?!”
“Of course not.” Kuro smirked. “I haven’t eaten yet. Since we’re here, let’s grab a bite.”
Smoker narrowed his eyes suspiciously. “Huh?”
“Relax, Lida’s in Wano Country. Just us. Let’s have a drink, don’t hesitate.” Kuro turned and strode toward the Headquarters’ commercial district.
"You bastard…" Smoker muttered, then followed with a helpless sigh.
The old haunt—Justice Bbq Restaurant.
Sizzling sea beast meat sizzled on the iron griddle as the trio sat around the table. Kuro raised his glass, clinked it with Smoker and Tashigi’s, and downed it in one go.
“You wouldn’t believe how crazy Wano Country was. All the big players were there. On the way, the Old Man even ran into Shanks. If I hadn’t had the advantage on the Grand Line, I’d have arrived injured, and victory would’ve been uncertain.”
Kuro vented as he recalled.
Even now, the memory made his heart race.
If Red-Haired Shanks hadn’t intercepted him mid-journey but instead ambushed him near Wano Country or on an island, the battle would’ve been a guaranteed win—but at a heavy cost. Arriving in Wano Country afterward wouldn’t have been so easy.
“You ended the Four Emperors Era. Stop whining,” Smoker said, taking another sip and puffing his cigar. “You’re heading to Wano Country for stationing, right? The newspapers haven’t announced it, but the news is everywhere. That place’s a mess—you’d better prepare.”
Kuro speared a piece of meat, chewed, and replied, “The Old Man knows. Because of me, the Grand Line’s even more chaotic. G-5’s no exception. Otherwise, I’d have accepted a transfer there.”
“Give it a rest. Worry about yourself. G-5’s reputation’s terrible—most Marines avoid it. As for those troublemakers you’re picking, their combat power’s decent, but only you can handle them.” Kuro rolled his eyes.
Troublemakers and criminals always ended up there. G-5 was practically a dumping ground for the Navy, with new arrivals every period of time.
“They’re not bad people,” Smoker muttered.
Tashigi nodded firmly. “Yes, Kuro Admiral. They’re actually quite good.”
“That’s your problem, not mine,” Kuro replied.
“By the way…” Smoker looked up, hesitating. “What about Luffy? If you say it was Opportunity Seizing, then the newspapers are wrong—it was Luffy who defeated Kaido, wasn’t it?”
“I knew you’d ask.” Kuro scoffed. “That kid’s power’s growing fast, but it’s nothing special. In the New World’s Farming Region, those silver medalists won’t let them off easy. Let them fight their own battles.”
Smoker fell silent, lost in thought.
After eating for a while, Kuro set down his chopsticks. “Alright, you handle your business. I need to go to Mariejois—those five old men summoned me.”
“Hmph, those annoying old men,” Smoker muttered. “They’re not easy to deal with.”
Kuro shrugged. “I’m off.”
He stood and left directly.
Smoker remained in thought, then exhaled smoke slowly. “It’s not that simple. Luffy will definitely do something shocking again. Kuro, be careful.”
“Kuro Admiral’s already gone, Smoker Vice Admiral,” Tashigi whispered.
“Huh?”
Smoker stiffened, then roared, “That bastard didn’t pay the bill again!!”
Wasn’t that normal?
Whenever Kuro Admiral and Smoker Vice Admiral met, Smoker always ended up footing the bill.
Tashigi pressed her lips together, wisely staying silent.
…
After leaving the restaurant, Kuro didn’t head to Mariejois immediately. Instead, he found a Navy officer and requested a Log Pose for Dominica, then flew off.
Since he’d definitely be stationed in Wano Country, some preparations were necessary. For this, he needed to find Gramps.
Though retired, Kuro knew where Gramps was—on Kemorike Island in Dominica Kingdom, the same island he’d once destroyed with Pacifista attacks.
“Hope this works…”
Kuro glanced at the suitcase in his hand, then flicked his fingers. The case soared into the sky, vanishing into the clouds.
He accelerated, bursting through the air like a wisp of thread, a meteor streaking toward his destination.
