Chapter 1211: Shinzo Genchū
Chapter 1211: Shinzo Genchū
Even bound by Seastone, Kuro didn’t dare to be complacent. If a single slash failed to kill Kaido cleanly, he’d end up the one looking foolish.
To be safe—and to fulfill Kaido’s dying wish—he went all out.
Kaido’s skull split open as Kuro’s blade sliced through his neck. The severed head, still frozen in a malevolent grin and mid-roar, slid smoothly onto the execution platform, rolling into view for the stunned crowd.
Silence gripped the arena.
Twenty years ago, Kaido had invaded Wano Country alongside Shogun Kurozumi Orochi. Under their rule, Wano’s once-abundant regions became polluted wastelands. Starvation drove people to sell themselves into Kaido’s factories just to survive, laboring for the meager reward of a single filling meatball.
Even when Flower Capital’s supplies flowed normally, the people had no coin to buy them, nor the military might to seize them. This oppression endured—until now.
Kaido was dead!!
“OH!!!”
The silence shattered as those kept at bay by the Navy erupted into deafening cheers, raising their hands skyward in jubilation.
Kaido was dead! The source of all evil had fallen!
No one cared about his final words. They only knew this white-cloaked figure in golden light had ended him. These were saviors, agents of Justice who not only eliminated tyrants but fed the starving masses. Who else would do such a thing?
They’d endured endless hunger, endless subjugation under those with superior military power. Now, anyone who helped them—anything they asked—would be granted without hesitation.
Kas observed the crowd’s fervor, nodding imperceptibly.
Vice Admiral Kuro was as brilliant as ever. By preparing aid beforehand, he’d turned the people’s gratitude into a foothold for the Navy’s entry into Wano. No resentment, no resistance—only acceptance.
A masterstroke. A calculated move by a seasoned tactician. The perfect opening. Now it was their turn to act.
“Vice Admiral Klah, are we ready?” Kas turned toward the castle tower.
Wilbur nodded. “Time to play our final card. We’ll seize the moral high ground.”
Kuro flicked his blade, scattering the blood from his Yokai Blade. He glanced at Kaido’s head, shaking his own. “Farewell.”
Killing a Grand Line legend like Kaido stirred no emotion in him. They’d never been close—Kaido had taught him nothing. The pirate had merely been a Great Pirate with a lofty title, albeit one carrying the weight of a Four Emperors’ legacy.
Big Mom was dead. Whitebeard was gone. Shanks had been captured. The Four Emperors Era had ended.
Kuro flexed his fingers. The Yokai Blade shot skyward, and he turned toward the castle tower—
But then, on the fifth-level balcony, a familiar figure materialized.
Short, buck-toothed, he bellowed: “People of Wano! I am Kurozumi Orochi, Shogun of Wano Country!”
The Shogun?!
His declaration drew countless gazes upward.
A ruler for twenty years.
Despicable, yes—hated, certainly. Yet undeniably the Shogun. Even now, seeing him stirred reverence in their hearts.
Kuro paused mid-step, brow furrowing.
What was he doing here?
He wasn’t supposed to appear!
Had he come to reap the rewards of others’ labor?
“Klah, what the hell are you doing?!”
Kuro clicked his tongue. “The Old Man should’ve kept him locked up. Is this the best advice he could offer—losing track of a single prisoner?!”
He kept walking, raising a finger. The air around it warped violently.
“I, Kurozumi Orochi, declare—”
The pressure compressed around Kuro’s fingertip.
“My Shogun title shall be passed to—”
Pass it to someone else?
Who gave you the gall?!
Kaido was defeated by Luffy, killed by Kuro’s own hand. What did this man have to do with it? And once Kaido fell, Kurozumi Orochi’s position would’ve crumbled in days. Now he wanted to crown a successor—just to plunge Wano deeper into chaos?
“Die.”
Kuro twitched his index finger. A compressed air wave erupted, piercing Kurozumi Orochi’s throat and drilling through the castle tower’s walls in a spray of blood.
The Shogun was dead!
“OH!!!”
The Wano crowd erupted again after a brief silence.
This “Shinzo Genchū” must be a name of great renown.
“Damn it!”
Kuro’s face darkened as he soared to the fifth-level balcony. “Klah! Where the hell are you?!”
“Kuro, sir—”
Klah appeared, adjusting his glasses as he studied Kurozumi Orochi’s corpse. “You… killed him?”
“Are you blind?!” Kuro snapped. “I asked what you were doing! Who’s this Shinzo Genchū? Where are they? Find them. Eliminate them!”
He hadn’t even begun untangling the aftermath when another complication arose. What was going on?!
“Shinzo Genchū…”
Klah smirked faintly. “Kuro, sir… that’s you.”
“Eh?!”
Kuro tilted his head. With a gesture, Autumn Water descended from the sky, landing in his grip. His voice turned icy. “Klah, have you lost your mind? You expect me to believe this nonsense? At least say you don’t know who it is instead of spewing lies without a script!”
Had the boy forgotten his “special training”? Was he getting arrogant since becoming a Vice Admiral? Who taught him to toy with his superiors?!
“Really, it’s you.”
Kuzan strolled out, shrugging. “By Wano’s tradition, that’s your name, Kuro.”
“Are you drunk, Kuzan?!” Kuro scowled. “The Old Man called him Lucius Kro. Never heard of ‘Shinzo Genchū.’”
“No, Kuro, sir. It’s a Wano transliteration. ‘Lucius Kro’ becomes ‘Shinzo Genchū’—‘Shinzo’ meaning ‘rebel’ or ‘demon,’ and ‘Genchū’ a phonetic rendering of your name. ‘Kuro’ means ‘black,’ and ‘zumi’ implies ‘authority.’ So… Shinzo Genchū is you. Kurozumi Orochi named you his successor.”
Klah explained hastily, though inwardly groaning.
Ideally, Kuro should’ve been Shogun Regent first, with Kurozumi Orochi formally passing the title later. But Kuro had killed him mid-sentence, seizing the title prematurely.
