Chapter 121: What Will the Future Hold?
Chapter 121: What Will the Future Hold?
Natsu ran around the guild hall like a mad little dragon, but he didn't find any trace of a dragon.
Happi and Charle also flew around the area but came up empty-handed.
Charle, uncertain, asked, "Wendy, did you really smell something?"
Wendy nodded, "Yes, but I couldn't detect it once we left the guild."
Happi said, "So, Grandeeney is hiding inside the guild?"
"It could also be someone or something she's come into contact with," Rod suggested. "Wendy, go back and check again."
"Okay!" Wendy's nostrils twitched as she sniffed the familiar scent, then returned to the counter.
Wendy, still uncertain, said, "It seems to be inside."
"Inside the counter?" Mira bent down and started pulling things out. "There's only my purse, some clothes, and Rod's clothes..."
Natsu tilted his head, "Why are your clothes in there?"
Mira playfully flicked Happi's forehead, "They're workout clothes, for training. Besides these... there's this bag."
Wendy sniffed it and became excited, "This is it! This cloth bag has Grandeeney's scent on it."
Natsu sniffed it too, "I only smell Rod and Mira, and... Granbull?"
"This is a medicine bag Granbull gave me," Rod thought aloud. "Could it be that Granbull is a dragon, which is why she always says she hates humans?"
"But Grandeeney likes humans," Wendy pointed out. "Can I... meet this Granbull?"
Natsu turned to run, "I'll take you right now!"
"Wait, Natsu!" Rod grabbed Natsu by his scarf and the back of his shirt. "We should ask the Master first."
Natsu jogged in place, clearly annoyed, "Why make it so complicated?"
Natsu instinctively trusted Wendy, even subconsciously considering her one of his own.
Rod, on the other hand, believed Wendy would eventually be part of their group and trusted her to some extent, but she wasn't there yet.
For both safety and out of respect for Granbull, they should get the Master's approval first.
Isn't she living in the forest to avoid contact with people?
Mira also advised, "Granbull doesn't like being disturbed. We should wait for the Master to return and ask him. He might know something about this."
Rod opened the cloth bag. The medicine smell masked some of the scents, but Wendy was certain that each small packet had Grandeeney's scent.
There was no doubt now—this dragon and the old woman were connected.
The guild's special lunch dish briefly distracted Wendy, but even after eating, she and Natsu remained restless.
Fortunately, the Master returned soon.
"This child is also a Dragon Slayer?" Makarov asked after listening to Mira's explanation. "The guild master of Cait Shelter, I believe, is named Robelou, right?"
Wendy beamed, "Do you know our guild master?"
Makarov replied, "I haven't met her in person, but I've heard that they are descendants of a somewhat isolated ancient tribe, the Nirubito. In recent years, to increase their interaction with the outside world, they formed a guild. Is Wendy also a Nirubito?"
Wendy shook her head, "No, Charle and I joined later, so we don't know much about that. But Cait Shelter is a guild formed by the entire tribe, and it's a great guild!"
"I see."
Makarov smiled warmly at the children who loved their guild. "You can go see Porlyusica if you want, but... Rod."
"Huh?"
"Keep an eye on Natsu and make sure he doesn't cause any trouble."
"Me?" Rod was bewildered by the Guild Master's misplaced confidence in his ability to control Natsu.
"What do you mean by that, old man!" Natsu was annoyed, but the more pressing matter of finding out about dragons was more important, so he dragged Rod along. "Wendy, hurry up!"
"Right!" Wendy ran a few steps, then stopped to bow deeply to Makarov before continuing.
Happy and Charle flew over and followed closely behind.
Makarov sat cross-legged on the counter, his expression tinged with worry.
A Fire Dragon Slayer, a Sky Dragon Slayer, and a summoner who can call upon dragons...
What significant events could be on the horizon that would require so many powerful mages capable of fighting dragons to come together?
Mira asked, "Guild Master, is something bothering you?"
Makarov shook his head. "No, nothing. I'm just a bit uncomfortable from last night's hangover."
Mira wasn't convinced. "Is that so? Then no drinking for you for the next few days."
"No way!"
"Mira, why aren't you coming?" Mira noticed Worm still sitting on the counter, munching on the fish Happy had left behind.
"Rumble~" Worm only wanted to eat.
...
Rod, Natsu, Wendy, Happy, and Charle rode on a giant crab, moving quickly. They soon stopped outside a treehouse.
Charle grumbled, "If we had such a convenient mode of transportation, why did we run so hard at the beginning?"
"Ahahaha, I forgot!" Natsu laughed and jumped off, pounding on the treehouse door.
The door opened, and just as Natsu was about to speak, a broom smacked him on the head.
"You annoying brats! Have you learned any manners? Your aftereffects haven't completely worn off yet, so why aren't you resting!"
"Sorry!" Natsu apologized, even after being hit. "But we have something important to ask! It's about..."
SLAM! The door closed again.
"Go away!"
Natsu was frustrated. "At least let me finish what I'm saying!"
Wendy's eyes welled up with tears, and she wiped them with her small hands.
"Sorry, Wendy. Did I scare you?" Rod quickly reassured her. "Grandma Porlyusica can be a bit grumpy, but she's a good person."
Wendy shook her head, her voice trembling. "No, it's just that... her voice and scent are just like Grandine's, like my mother..."
Inside the treehouse, Porlyusica leaned against the door, hearing the little girl's sobs. The dragon... it was like a mother to that child.
First Natsu, then Wendy—was it Makarov's constant trouble-making, or were major events always bound to happen to Fairy Tail?
Given Natsu's personality, if he got involved in some trouble, Rod couldn't just leave him alone, could he?
One person's happiness is everyone's happiness, one person's anger is everyone's anger, and one person's tears are everyone's tears...
Fairy Tail was always a guild made up of a bunch of trouble-making fools.
Really, why did she stay in such a guild in the first place...
Porlyusica remembered some past events, picked up a book from the shelf, and then, with a stern face, gripped the doorknob.
