Chapter 121: The Seal of the Departed
Chapter 121: The Seal of the Departed
Duke Lantilus followed closely behind, using various skills to try and intercept Su Yu.
However, for a bulky warrior, trying to catch a nimble assassin was nothing short of a pipe dream.
The Assassin's Shadow Step skill allowed the user to instantly teleport behind a chosen target within a 40-meter range. After reaching the sixth tier, Shadow Step had almost no cooldown.
Relying on this skill, Su Yu weaved through the crowd, slaughtering players while Duke Lantilus could only trail behind, choking on the dust.
Of course, Lantilus wasn't a fool.
After chasing for a dozen seconds and realizing he couldn't catch up, he stopped in his tracks.
He suddenly realized, "Why am I chasing this interdimensional adventurer? My mission is to capture Princess Alizette. I should just go straight for her. Why am I wasting time on this adventurer?"
Lantilus realized he had been misled by Archmage Antonidas. Could he be an enemy spy?
But he didn't dwell on it for long. He took off from his spot and flew directly toward the princess.
Now it was Su Yu's turn to feel the pressure.
There were no powerful defenders around the princess who could stand up to Lantilus.
If the princess was captured, the battle would be lost!
So Su Yu quickly abandoned his experience farming.
He used Shadow Step to teleport behind Lantilus and pulled out a thick wooden club, swinging it at the back of Lantilus's head.
This was the signature skill of the Assassin class—Mugging, which could put the enemy into a prolonged state of unconsciousness.
But at that moment,
"Ha!"
Lantilus roared, and a dense crimson light erupted from his body, granting him a powerful buff.
Unstoppable (Legendary): For one minute, immune to all control effects. Countdown: 00:59.
Su Yu's Mugging struck Lantilus's head, but it had no effect on him.
Lantilus retaliated with a Backslash, his pale blade slicing through Su Yu's abdomen, causing him to bleed profusely and lose two-thirds of his health.
Fortunately, Su Yu managed to use Shadow Step in time, dragging his heavily wounded body to safety, narrowly avoiding a fatal blow.
"Hmph!" Lantilus glared coldly at Su Yu.
He didn't pursue, continuing his flight toward the princess.
Princess Alizette stood beside a capsized warship, her face pale.
All her commanders were engaged with the enemy, and Lantilus was closing in. She was backed into a corner.
She couldn't help but recall what Starcross had once told her, that she would be the ultimate winner.
"What a liar," the princess said, closing her eyes in despair.
But just then, a figure clad in deep black leather armor, with bloodstains on his abdomen, suddenly appeared behind her.
"It's Starcross!" The princess saw a glimmer of hope in her dire situation.
"Starcross, are you alright?" The princess quickly turned to support Su Yu.
But Su Yu pushed her hand away, managing a weak smile. "Your Highness, stand behind me. I will protect you."
"Notification: Princess Alizette's Favorability +3, now at 'Notice.'"
"Notification: Congratulations, you have gained 5 points of World Renown."
Su Yu ignored the game notifications; now wasn't the time to worry about them.
He changed outfits in a split second.
With the power of a scroll, Su Yu transformed into a cleric wearing a pristine white robe and wielding a golden staff.
"Despair's Prayer!"
"Mental Control!"
As soon as he transformed, Su Yu immediately used the cleric's ultimate instant heal skill, Despair's Prayer.
With his life force fully restored, Su Yu raised his staff and cast the signature Cleric spell, Mind Control, directly at Lantilus, who was now less than thirty meters from Alyssa.
The Mind Control spell wielded by clerics isn't a simple control spell. It can directly invade and manipulate the enemy's mind, an effect that doesn't fall under the category of control. Lantilus's Unstoppable ability couldn't provide immunity.
Under Su Yu's continuous spellcasting, Lantilus's body gradually came to a halt. The mental invasion caused Lantilus excruciating pain and his muscles began to rebel against his commands. In desperation, he closed his eyes and tried to resist the mental invasion.
...
Lantilus was a Level 77, while Su Yu, after transforming, was only Level 75. Therefore, Su Yu couldn't maintain the mental invasion for long. At most, his spell would last for ten seconds before losing its effect.
In a helpless situation, Su Yu shouted up to the Celestial Cat Morning Star in the sky, "Morning Star, help me! I can't hold on much longer!"
General Shuhe, the burly warrior, was of no help; Xi Fan had already merged completely with the shadows, invisible even in silhouette. Thus, Su Yu could only hope for Morning Star's assistance to rescue the princess and turn the tide.
Fortunately, Morning Star responded immediately.
Roar!
In a clear and melodious dragon's roar, a brilliant streak of starlight flashed and instantly appeared beside Princess Alyssa.
Morning Star hoisted the princess onto her back and swiftly flew away into the sky.
This was Morning Star's ultimate escape skill, Astral Shift, which allowed her to instantly teleport to the princess's side and carry her to safety. Morning Star had been waiting for the right moment to use this skill, and now, it was finally time to act.
...
In an instant, Morning Star had carried the princess several kilometers away. However, Hetao, who had been battling Morning Star, was no pushover.
"Yin and Yang in order, fate unpredictable, with this butterfly flame, I shall guide your path."
Hetao swiftly performed a series of hand seals.
Upon completing the seals, a murky mist shot out from her fingertips, zipping toward Morning Star's body and piercing through her.
"Seal of the Afterlife?!" Morning Star's eyes widened in alarm. "This is bad!"
Morning Star recognized the incantation as the ultimate move of a Daoist—Seal of the Afterlife.
She and Hetao had no personal grudges, so why was Hetao trying to kill her?
"Seal of the Afterlife?!" Su Yu was also shocked when he heard Morning Star's cry.
Su Yu had heard of Seal of the Afterlife in his past life. This spell was known to be mastered only by top-tier Daoist NPCs. When used on players, it could reset their level to zero, empty their inventory, and revert them to a "Newbie" state. Everything would start anew, hence the name "Afterlife."
The effects on NPCs were unclear, but the punishment was certainly severe.
After casting Seal of the Afterlife, Hetao suffered severe depletion. She could no longer maintain her flight and landed heavily on the ground, gasping for breath. Her strength drastically dropped from Level 7 to Level 5, her overall power reduced to a fraction of what it was.
Morning Star's condition was even worse.
Seal of the Afterlife took effect quickly, and after a couple of breaths, it exploded within Morning Star's body. Her massive dragon form began to waver in the air, losing the strength to maintain her dragon form and even her flight.
After a few more seconds, her dragon form disappeared entirely.
Morning Star reverted to her small blue-and-white cat form, falling into unconsciousness and plummeting from the sky.
