Chapter 121: That Was Taught to Me by the Half-Blood Prince
Chapter 121: That Was Taught to Me by the Half-Blood Prince
Walking down the streets of Diagon Alley, Ivan curiously looked around.
A towering, solemn building that resembled a castle came into view. People came and went, and the gleaming bronze doors were open. Several Goblins dressed in crimson and gold uniforms stood guard at the entrance, vigilantly watching their surroundings while courteously bowing to the guests.
If he didn't count the memories from his past, this was his first time here, so naturally, he was interested in everything.
On the way, Ivan saw the ancient Ollivanders Wand Shop and Flourish and Blotts.
But those weren't their destinations. Ivan just glanced at them a few more times before turning around and stopping at Potage's Cauldron Shop.
"If you need a cauldron, I have one. You don't need to buy another one", Douglas said, smacking his lips.
Ivan ignored him and walked straight in. Douglas sighed and followed.
Since it wasn't yet time for the little Wizards to return to school, there weren't many customers in the cauldron shop. The shop owner, Mr. Potage, enthusiastically tried to sell them the recently popular Pure Gold Cauldron, but Ivan rejected it without hesitation.
"Just give me three Pewter Cauldrons, five of them!" Ivan took out some money from the pocket of his Wizard robes and placed it on the counter. The money was the hush money Douglas had given him earlier.
"Five cauldrons?" Mr. Potage was startled. He had never seen a young Wizard buy so many cauldrons before. He glanced at Douglas, thinking this was probably just a child's whimsical idea.
"Why are you buying so many cauldrons?" Douglas was also very curious.
"Of course, to speed up the Potion-making process", Ivan glanced at him sideways, picked out a few cauldrons, paid, and left the shop. He then headed to a nearby apothecary to make his purchases, quickly spending most of the dozen or so Galleons he had.
Douglas was still trying to dissuade Ivan from using five cauldrons to brew Potions.
"Brewing Potions is a delicate task that requires complete focus. I can tell you from years of experience that using multiple cauldrons will inevitably lead to failure."
Ivan didn't even bother to respond. Once they returned home, he eagerly entered the basement work area and found an open space to start preparing.
Douglas gritted his teeth in frustration, deciding that if there were any issues with Ivan's Potions, he would personally brew a batch and secretly replace Ivan's failed attempts to protect his reputation.
Entering the work area, Ivan didn't immediately start brewing the Potion. Instead, he picked up a carving knife and began modifying the newly purchased cauldrons and Potion-making tools.
Douglas was utterly confused and tried several times to interrupt and ask what was going on, but he failed each time.
Two hours later, under Douglas's astonished gaze, Ivan continuously waved his Wand, much like a conductor in a Muggle band.
The Potion ingredients, sorted by type, spontaneously leaped into the cauldrons.
Cutting and grinding tools appeared, floating in the air, slicing the ingredients to the right size and grinding them into powder, then stirring them together.
"This isn't... this isn't..." Douglas' eyes widened as he recalled Aisia's Magic Kitchen.
But brewing Potions isn't like cooking; it requires precise control.
Douglas was just about to scold, but then he noticed the Potion ingredients on the five cauldrons, handled with extreme precision, without the slightest error.
How could anyone manage to do so many things at once?
Douglas was completely baffled.
In fact, he didn't know that Ivan had spent his academic points to activate the experience card's mind acceleration mode, which allowed him to control everything with such precision.
He had to thank Dumbledore for demonstrating how to control objects with Magic Power at the hospital, and the inspiration from Aisia's Magic Kitchen, which led to the creation of this semi-automated Potion-making factory.
The originally tedious process of brewing Potions became effortless and even somewhat artistic under Ivan's meticulous Magic Power control, much like a bartender mixing cocktails, pleasing to the eye.
Daisy Root, Dried Nettle Powder, Sunflower Petals, and a small Peppermint.
Douglas quickly recognized that Ivan was brewing Cheer-Up Potion, a common Potion with a wide range of uses. It could make the drinker feel extremely happy for a period of time, with no side effects.
When treating patients in his Black Hospital, he often added diluted Cheer-Up Potion to their drinking water.
This usually made the patients leave the hospital with a smile, even after paying a high medical bill.
However, what made Douglas frown was that he remembered Peppermint wasn't part of the Cheer-Up Potion recipe. He interrupted, "Why did you add Peppermint? Did you get the recipe wrong?"
"No, adding Peppermint can enhance the Potion's effectiveness", Ivan shook his head and explained softly.
"That's impossible. I've never heard of that. Where did you hear it from?" Douglas didn't believe him.
"It was taught to me by the Half-Blood Prince", Ivan said casually, his Wand flicking to pour the brewed Potion into the prepared vials.
After finishing, Ivan didn't pause for a moment and continued to start the next batch of Potions, this time brewing Living Death Potion.
The one-hour experience card mode he got for 100 academic points was precious, and he didn't want to waste a single minute.
Only in this state could he produce Potions of the highest quality.
Additionally, some of the Potion-brewing tips he had learned from the original story in his past life allowed him to create Potions with much higher efficacy than the average, which was necessary to compete with legitimate Potion stores.
Thinking about this, Ivan suddenly felt he had miscalculated. Why hadn't he remembered to take Snape's Old Textbook when he was at Hogwarts?
Ivan vaguely remembered that the book was in the Advanced Classroom for Upper Years, containing not only various Potion-making knowledge summarized by Snape but also many advanced spells.
Seeing Ivan so engrossed in Potion-making, Douglas had to keep his questions to himself and focused on the five bottles of Cheer-Up Potion on the table.
Douglas picked up one of the bottles, shook it, and noticed that the color was lighter than a normal Cheer-Up Potion.
With his years of experience in Potion-making, he could tell that the quality of this Potion was quite good, but he had clearly seen Ivan add Peppermint.
Logically, even if the Potion didn't fail, its efficacy should have been greatly reduced!
