Chapter 120: Too Far
Chapter 120: Too Far
Lucius Kro barely finished planting his feet before he reached for the Transponder Snail on his wrist, ignoring the pirates around him.
“Moshi Moshi?”
“Run! An Admiral’s here!”
Pirates scattered in panic, but by then, navy warships had already reached the shore. Navy soldiers poured down the ramps, boots thudding onto the docks.
“These bounties are crawling everywhere—watch out for over-100-million Belly targets!” A navy officer bellowed as he chased after fleeing pirates.
Lucius Kro frowned at his silent Transponder Snail, twisting his wrist. “Moshi Moshi? This is Admiral Lucius Kro… Hmm? Strange, why isn’t there any sound?” He jabbed at the shell irritably.
Kuro watched him in silence, arms crossed, his expression a cocktail of disgust and exasperation.
Nearby, in a narrow alley, two pirates crouched behind wooden crates, peering at the yellow-suited man obliviously dialing on his snail.
“No way… That’s really an Admiral?” The shorter pirate’s voice cracked. “Damn you, Luffy! You’ve gone too far dragging an Admiral here!”
The taller pirate gripped his long spear, its scope glinting. “What if… What if I shoot him? I’d be famous overnight!”
“Are you insane? That’s an Admiral! The Navy’s strongest!” The shorter one gawked.
The spearman said nothing. He swallowed hard, raised his weapon, and aimed through the scope. Lucius Kro’s head filled the lens.
“Mos… Moshi? Still nothing. Weird.” Lucius Kro tapped the shell again.
Kuro finally concluded: This idiot wasn’t faking it. He honestly thought the snail was just a phone.
Bang!
The shot cracked. A bullet screamed through the air, punching into Lucius Kro’s skull—only to burst out the other side and slam into the wall behind him.
“Mos… Moshi?” He kept poking at the snail.
“What the hell? I missed?!” The spearman reloaded furiously. “This time, I’ll hit you!”
Bang!
The second bullet tore through the alley. Kuro, still chewing his cigar, spat it out without looking. The stub flew like lightning, colliding midair with the bullet and deflecting it.
He lit a fresh cigar, the flame crackling.
Lucius Kro finally glanced at the alley, his glasses glinting. “How strange…”
“It’s a Devil Fruit user! Run! Bullets won’t work!” The pirates bolted.
But as they turned the corner, Lucius Kro loomed before them—his three-meter frame towering. He leaned down politely.
“Old man just wants to ask a question. Have you seen a man named Sengoku? Can’t get through on the phone, and old man can’t find him. Seen him?”
“Aaaaah!” They screamed, spinning back the way they came.
Lucius Kro’s shades caught a flicker of golden light.
“Tsk, tsk. Old man was being perfectly polite.” He lifted his leg, his calf glowing.
Whoosh!
A golden beam erupted, slicing between the fleeing pirates before slamming into a massive 27GR tree trunk. The explosion at its base shook the ground, collapsing nearby buildings. The tree groaned, then crashed down with a thunderous Boom!
Kuro strolled over, smoke curling from his lips. “Gramps… don’t you think that was a bit overkill?”
“Oh?” Lucius Kro beamed at the fallen giant. “Hmm. Maybe old man did go a little far.”
On a nearby rooftop, a long-armed pirate in ancient Eastern robes and headphones gawked. “So that’s Admiral Lucius Kro… What a madman.”
“Captain Apoo, we’re in danger too! Let’s go!” A pirate urged.
Apoo chuckled, his stretchy arms coiling around the man. “Sneaking off’s no fun. Let’s provoke them first, then run.”
“What are you planning, Captain Apoo?”
“Wait and see.” Apoo’s grin widened. Confidence oozed from him.
“Kuro, let’s keep moving. We’ll ask others,” Lucius Kro declared.
Ask?
You mean terrify? Kuro sighed, trudging after him.
As they passed the uprooted tree, Kuro paused, hand brushing its trunk.
Such a massive tree… Pity to waste it.
He’d never had such a colossal specimen in his collection.
Meanwhile, Sengoku had split up with Klah and Lida after landing.
“No point chasing the main targets—those ‘Pacifista’ have them covered,” Klah muttered, plopping onto a knocked-out pirate. He adjusted his glasses. “One, two, three… forty-two bounties!”
Lida munched a banana, counting the unconscious. “All small fry, though. Average bounty’s just millions.”
“Chump change,” Klah scoffed. “Need someone famous to hit our quota.”
A squad of navy officers approached. “Sir, we’re here to—”
“We’re subordinates under Marine Headquarters’ Admiral Lucius Kro, assigned to Major Kuro’s squad. I’m Klah, that’s Lida.” He gestured to the pile. “Kuro ordered us to secure these. Take ’em into custody.”
“Understood!” The ensign saluted sharply.
Lucius Kro’s subordinate’s subordinate?
Respect the chain of command.
As the navy hauled prisoners away, Klah cracked his knuckles.
“Help!”
“Wah!”
“Cough, cough!”
A nearby alley erupted with screams. The initial cry was strong, but the rest? Definitely kids and elders.
In a pirate haven?
“Let’s see,” Klah muttered, tightening his Cat’s Claw.
Another street revealed navy soldiers—except they were old men and children, sprawled unconscious.
On a nearby tower, a group sneered down.
“Masterpiece!” A woman cackled from the edge, tearing into pizza with one hand and a drumstick in the other. She bit into the slice savagely, eyes locked on the only conscious navy officer. “Now… what should I turn you into?”
