Chapter 120: The Unstoppable Undead (First Update)
Chapter 120: The Unstoppable Undead (First Update)
King of the Magic Worms truly lived up to his title as the strongest mage under Morgana herself in the Morgana Order. Although he couldn't see the Shadow Blade Jerry had cast, his keen magical senses still allowed him to perceive the fluctuations in magical energy.
Holding his staff, he was about to cast a spell to block the attack when he noticed that Balthazar's particle cannon was also aimed at him.
After a brief hesitation of about a tenth of a second, he redirected his staff toward Balthazar and drew a circle, forming an invisible air shield.
Compared to the attack magic cast by the young mage Jerry, Horvath naturally took Balthazar's particle cannon more seriously. The last time he was hit by it on the street left a vivid memory.
"Ah!"
The air shield deflected Balthazar's particle cannon, but Horvath let out a scream of agony.
Although he had tried to dodge, he still couldn't completely avoid Jerry's Shadow Blade Curse. The invisible blade sliced through half of his right ankle.
"Damn you, I'll remember this!"
Horvath knelt on the ground, his right ankle bleeding profusely. He glared at Jerry with venom in his eyes, then his body began to decompose, transforming into countless insect-like creatures.
"Be careful, Horvath has studied Morgana's Dark Magic and has cultivated an undead form. When injured, he can transform into magic worms to heal himself!"
Balthazar, his face grim, approached Jerry.
The reason Horvath was called the King of the Magic Worms was that when severely injured, he could transform into magic worms to heal his wounds. This is why, even though Balthazar had defeated Horvath in the past, he could only seal him in the Hand of Death.
It wasn't that he didn't want to kill Horvath; it was simply beyond his capabilities.
"Is that even possible?"
Jerry was taken aback by Balthazar's words.
The ability to transform into magic worms to heal injuries was far more effective than any healing magic.
No wonder Balthazar had defeated Horvath multiple times in the movies but never killed him, always carrying the Hand of Death and quickly leaving. He had assumed it was out of respect for their millennia-old bond as fellow disciples.
It turns out, Horvath really was impossible to kill.
So, it seems the Dark Magic of the Morgana Order does have its merits.
A moment later, the countless magic worms reformed into Horvath's body.
"This can't be! How is this possible?"
As soon as his body reformed, Horvath felt a sharp pain in his ankle. He looked down to see that it was still bleeding, and the wound had not healed.
Not only was Horvath incredulous, but Balthazar also looked shocked.
After a moment of contemplation, Jerry suddenly understood the reason.
Yes, Horvath's ability to transform into magic worms to heal his wounds was indeed powerful, but the Shadow Blade Curse Jerry had just cast was also a top-tier Dark Magic.
Invented by Snape, an avid enthusiast of Dark Magic, the Shadow Blade Curse not only had the characteristic of being invisible but also carried a unique Dark Magic curse. Unless the corresponding counter-curse was cast or the person was extremely skilled in curse-breaking, no healing magic could heal the injuries caused by the Shadow Blade Curse.
Horvath's Dark Magic for transforming into magic worms could heal ordinary magical injuries but could not break the curse inflicted by the Shadow Blade Curse.
Thus, his ankle continued to bleed profusely, unable to heal.
"What kind of magic did you use!"
Seeing his greatest trump card falter, Horvath finally began to panic.
If the magic insects couldn't heal his wounds, it meant his undead state would no longer protect him. If he were hit again by that young mage's magic, he would truly die here.
"Shadowblade Curse!"
Jerry, with his extensive combat experience, didn't waste time answering his opponent's questions. Without a word, he cast the Shadowblade Curse again, this time aiming for Horvath's neck.
If not for the eerie green light of the Killing Curse, which clearly marked it as Dark Arts and would likely draw Balthazar's suspicion, he would have used it right away.
Since the Shadowblade Curse could breach Horvath's undead state, the Killing Curse would certainly have no problem.
Now, Jerry even thought that not only Horvath, but even Morgana, sealed deep within the Hand of Death, would struggle if hit by his Killing Curse.
Of course, this was just a guess; it hadn't been tested.
Facing Jerry's Shadowblade Curse again, Horvath dared not be careless. He immediately cast an air shield in front of him and prepared to use magic to escape.
However, the attacker wasn't just Jerry. Balthazar, who was even more powerful, was also in the fray.
Balthazar raised his hands, and the iron railing on the rooftop instantly detached, wrapping around Horvath from behind and binding him tightly.
"Don't kill him!"
After securing Horvath, Balthazar saw Jerry wave his wand, ready to cast another spell, and quickly shouted to stop him.
Jerry turned to Balthazar, his face showing confusion.
Was this guy having a change of heart? This was the traitor who betrayed his master, leading to his teacher's tragic death and his wife's two-thousand-year imprisonment. Shouldn't he be killed rather than kept alive?
Seeing Jerry's confusion, Balthazar, while controlling the iron bars to snake around Horvath and knock the staff out of his hand to prevent him from casting any more spells, explained:
"Morgana's power is too great. The Hand of Death alone can't maintain a long-term seal. We need to add a second and third layer of seals to strengthen the magic's power.
These wizards from Morgana's faction are the source of power for each layer of the seal."
The principle of the sealing magic is to draw on the power of the sealed individual. Morgana's power is so immense that it might eventually break free over time.
So, Balthazar had sealed all of Morgana's wizards, including Horvath, outside the Hand of Death, creating a series of nested seals.
By drawing on the power of these wizards, the seal is strengthened. The more wizards sealed, the stronger the overall seal becomes, and the longer it can hold.
Jerry understood immediately after Balthazar's explanation.
No wonder Sun Long and the young nun in the second layer of the seal were only imprisoned and not killed. Horvath had an undead state, but Sun Long and the nun didn't.
They were kept alive to draw on their magic power to reinforce the seal.
With that in mind, Jerry retracted his wand and didn't cast the Shadowblade Curse again.
It was certainly better to have a more long-lasting seal on Morgana. While he suspected his Killing Curse could kill her, it hadn't been tested.
So, to be safe, it was better to keep Morgana sealed until Dave fully inherited Merlin's power and he himself became stronger. Then, they could address this threat.
