Chapter 120: Speculations About the Soul Vessel
Chapter 120: Speculations About the Soul Vessel
Madame Longbottom and Neville had been waiting there specifically for Kyle.
Over ten minutes ago, Neville seemed to have misinterpreted Kyle's intention. Instead of finding a Healer, he went downstairs and started shouting about a werewolf, trying to get others to help on the second floor.
However, no one believed him, even though they had just heard the noise coming from upstairs.
This was because werewolves wouldn't appear during the day, a basic fact in the magical world.
And this was St. Mungo's, a place filled with talented individuals. Here, it was commonplace to encounter people with peculiar behaviors. Just twenty minutes ago, someone claimed to have a dragon in one of the rooms upstairs.
So, a werewolf wasn't surprising or alarming.
Additionally, those Healers didn't believe the round-faced little fatty either.
The only reason they appeared on the second floor was because of another person.
—The curly-haired intern Healer who had led Kyle the way before. He was in the room with the werewolf and witnessed its entire transformation process.
But fortunately, he wasn't bitten. Perhaps it was because the werewolf had just transformed and its mind was still confused, so it just slapped him into the wall.
When he pulled himself out, the first thing he did was to contact his colleagues in the unique way of St. Mungo's, informing them about the werewolf.
That was how the previous scene had unfolded.
On the other hand, after learning about this incident, Madame Longbottom hurriedly found Neville and, after understanding the situation from her grandson, the old lady wanted to pull Neville to express her gratitude.
However, they were a step late. When the two found Kyle, he had just gone to the sixth floor with the headmaster and Dumbledore.
Madame Longbottom simply stood with Neville at the corner of the stairs, waiting for them to come down.
After that, Madame Longbottom also invited Kyle to a ward on the fifth floor.
Neville's parents were there, lying on the bed, looking at Kyle blankly.
"You saved Neville, and they also want to express their gratitude to you."
Madame Longbottom turned her head to look at the bed and said with a trembling voice, "Frank, Alice, the child is here."
But the two still looked dazed, as if they hadn't heard Madame Longbottom's words.
"Child, don't mind them." Madame Longbottom explained, "I can feel that they really want to express their thanks to you, but they just can't express it."
While Madame Longbottom was speaking, Neville stood beside her, lowering his head as if he had taken a sudden interest in his toes.
But this behavior made Madame Longbottom very angry.
"Lift your head, Neville!" she said sternly. "You shouldn't feel ashamed because of your parents' condition. You should be proud!"
"I'm not..." Neville refuted, his voice small but firm.
Madame Longbottom then looked at Kyle, her back straight and proud. "They were tortured insane by Death Eaters with the Cruciatus Curse... Those scoundrels wanted to force information out of them about their master, but they chose the wrong family. The Longbottom family would never compromise with Dark Wizards!"
"Admirable..." Kyle said respectfully.
"You too, child."
Madame Longbottom said, "At such a young age, being able to defeat a werewolf is something not many can achieve.
I hope Neville will also have such courage in the future and become an Auror after graduation, restoring the glory of the Longbottom family..."
She turned her gaze to Neville, frowning. "Straighten your back, Neville. I've told you many times, straighten your back!"
After leaving the ward, Kyle could still clearly hear Madame Longbottom scolding Neville.
The Headmaster paused in thought before continuing, "The Cruciatus Curse inflicts more than just physical wounds; it also tears the soul apart. A wizard's body is fragile, like a tightly stretched balloon. Trying to piece together a shattered mirror on its surface is precarious, and the slightest misstep can cause the balloon to pop."
"So, we can only manage to piece together a rudimentary shape of the mirror while ensuring the balloon remains intact, awaiting a more effective solution," Sascia explained.
"Like the Wolfsbane Potion?" Kyle mused.
"Exactly," Sascia smiled. "We await a 'Wolfsbane Potion' for the Cruciatus Curse and have been working tirelessly towards that goal."
Kyle remained silent, his thoughts drifting as he walked.
The mention of shattered souls had sparked a connection in his mind—the Horcruxes.
Yes, Horcruxes... those vile creations of Heprob, the most evil dark artifacts in the world.
Kyle recalled that to create a Horcrux, one must first split their soul by committing murder, and only then can the fragmented soul be encased within a Horcrux.
But what if the soul was already in a fragmented state from the start... could that step be skipped?
Just like the Longbottoms, their souls shattered by the Cruciatus Curse—didn't they fit the criteria for creating Horcruxes?
Kyle fell into deep contemplation.
Since it was impossible to piece together a complete mirror on the balloon, why not just take away the shards?
Horcruxes were peculiar entities, akin to an extra body or a bridge connecting fragmented souls.
And what's more intriguing is that once this bridge is formed, each fragment of the soul becomes relatively whole, which is why Voldemort didn't go insane even after losing six Horcruxes.
It is this very characteristic that enables one to achieve true immortality.
Given this, could the Longbottoms' shattered souls be turned into Horcruxes as well?
By disintegrating the soul, wouldn't the concerns regarding the fragments be resolved?
Of course, this was just a thought that occurred to Kyle.
The problem now was that he hadn't read any books about Horcruxes, and his understanding of them was limited to vague memories. He had no idea if such an idea was feasible.
Kyle glanced instinctively at Dumbledore, who wasn't far away.
The old wizard noticed and returned a quizzical look.
Kyle quickly averted his gaze.
Ask Dumbledore?
Nah. He figured that as soon as he mentioned Horcruxes, the old wizard would bang him into the wall, and it would be embarrassing if he couldn't pull himself out.
Since he couldn't ask, he'd have to look into it himself.
Kyle planned to visit the restricted section of the library after the start of the school year.
And if he couldn't find anything there, he still had the diary next year.
As for the crown in the Room of Requirement... to be honest, if he could help it, Kyle didn't want to touch that thing.
It was too dangerous, and it offered him no benefit whatsoever.
