Chapter 120: No Need to Wait
Chapter 120: No Need to Wait
Yansen could hardly believe his eyes.
Why was Su Nan's power so much greater than what they had investigated and estimated?
The difference was staggering!
Even with so many experts and the assistance of a holy relic, they were still decimated in just one exchange.
This level of power was bone-chilling!
What was going on?
"Ahhh!"
Just as Yansen was in shock, a slightly weaker Legendary Knight could no longer hold on. The starlight enveloping him instantly vanished, and in the next second, he exploded into a cloud of blood mist.
Yansen's heart tightened at the sight. He couldn't afford to hesitate any longer. He gritted his teeth and placed his hand on the book.
Buzz!
The starry sky trembled violently.
The surrounding stars hummed and trembled as if pulled by an invisible force, hurtling toward Su Nan like meteors and instantly engulfing him!
Boom!
The sound of celestial impacts echoed through the void.
The massive disturbance seemed to shake the entire space, making it feel like it was about to collapse.
The starry sky visibly dimmed, and in the distance, it had become a blurry haze.
Yansen, drenched in sweat, panted heavily, his eyes fixed on Su Nan's direction.
This attack had almost drained the Star Book of all its energy, leaving only a fraction to barely maintain the Starfield Domain.
This was his last ace.
If this didn't stop Su Nan, he would be out of options.
The silver spikes surrounding them had vanished without a trace.
The crowd finally had a moment to catch their breath, their eyes glued to the intertwining flames and starlight in the distance.
"Did he die?"
"He should be dead. Even a Second Circle Legendary Knight couldn't withstand that attack!"
"Even if he survived, he must be severely injured!"
The flames and starlight slowly dissipated.
Yansen and his companions involuntarily swallowed hard, their eyes widening in horror as they saw what happened next. Su Nan stood there calmly, completely unharmed. His clothing was intact, not even a thread out of place.
Unscathed!
"How is this possible?!"
Yansen's eyes were filled with shock and disbelief.
The Star Book's ultimate attack, unleashed at full power, couldn't even scratch Su Nan!
The other two men's faces turned deathly pale, their expressions filled with despair.
Facing such a terrifying opponent, they had no chance of winning.
Su Nan glanced at the dimmed Extremity Guard Ring on his right hand, slightly surprised.
Admittedly, that attack had been incredibly powerful.
Even the Extremity Guard Ring's 1000 defense points couldn't withstand it. It was only thanks to the Magic Core's defenses that the overflowed damage was negated.
If converted to defense points, Su Nan estimated that the attack's power was at least 1200 to 1400.
Some weaker Third Circle Wizard Apprentices might have been able to withstand it, but they would have been severely injured.
Redheart had likely been critically wounded by this very attack.
Su Nan looked up at Yansen and the others. Meeting Su Nan's indifferent gaze, Yansen and his companions instinctively took a step back, their faces pale.
At this point, they understood that the church had severely underestimated Su Nan's strength.
In just a couple of years, Su Nan's power had grown to an astonishing level, far surpassing what it was before.
Even Archbishop Aurelius might not be able to defeat Su Nan.
But they couldn't relay this information back to the church.
In their terrified and desperate gazes, a wave of silver light surged again, overwhelming their vision like a storm.
In the hall.
The nobles, seeing Su Nan and Yansen suddenly disappear, exchanged uneasy glances.
"Can High Priest Yansen and the others take down Su Nan?"
Baron Bedman, the current lord of Yarren City, wiped the sweat from his brow and asked, unable to hide his worry.
If they couldn't take down Su Nan, the other nobles could still escape, but his land was here. Staying meant death, and fleeing meant losing everything.
"Don't worry."
Seeing the nobles' anxious expressions, Lord Noray reassured them.
"High Priest Yansen is well-prepared this time. He will definitely defeat Su Nan!"
"Lord Noray is right."
"Su Nan is alone; he can't match High Priest Yansen and the others!"
"High Priest Yansen looked so confident earlier. There's no problem."
To quell their unease, everyone chimed in to agree with Lord Noray.
However, despite their words, no one wanted to stay. They immediately tried to leave the council chamber to gather their forces and surround the area.
But just as they stepped out of the hall, they heard a chaotic din of shouts and cries.
"What's happening?" Lord Noray frowned, demanding an answer.
A guard quickly stepped forward to report, "My lord, two monsters have appeared in the courtyard."
"What kind of monsters?" Lord Noray was bewildered.
Wasn't Su Nan being held by the Starfire Church? How did monsters appear?
Could it be those stone golems again?
But Lord Noray didn't have to wonder for long.
With a loud boom, the nearby wall collapsed, and amidst the dust, a giant lizard with black and red scales, its teeth sparking with fire, and a giant spider with a jet-black body and razor-sharp front legs burst through.
The two monsters were drenched in blood, as if they had been caught in a rain of gore. It was unclear how many guards they had slaughtered on their way in.
"What are those monsters?"
"They're coming this way!"
"Stop them!"
The nobles had brought a considerable number of guards with them, who were gathered not far from the council chamber. Hearing the commotion, they rushed over, only to be shocked by the sight of the giant lizard and the giant spider. Despite their fear, they followed their lords' orders and charged forward.
These guards were all formal knights. However, once they engaged the monsters, they quickly realized that their usual strength was nothing compared to the power of these beasts.
The giant lizard pounced and bit, tearing a knight in half, then swiped its tail, sending three more knights flying with a deafening crack. While still in mid-air, the three knights' bones shattered, their bodies contorting into grotesque shapes as they died.
The black giant spider was even more ferocious. With a single swipe of its front legs, it cleaved a knight in half, as easily as slicing through tofu. The knights' weapons bounced off its body, leaving not even a scratch.
In less than half a minute, the knights were decimated, forced to retreat step by step.
The nobles watched in horror, but they were powerless to stop the carnage.
They never imagined that the heavily guarded lord's residence could be breached by these two monsters, which their knights were helpless against.
Some thought about calling for reinforcements, but the enemy was right in front of them, and it would be too late to mobilize the troops from the barracks. Besides, the barracks were also under attack, and it was uncertain whether the reinforcements would arrive in time.
"What should we do, Lord Noray?"
All eyes turned to Lord Noray.
Despite the chaos, Lord Noray, a seasoned warrior, remained calm. He took a deep breath and drew his knight's longsword.
"Break through and head to the barracks. We'll be safe once we get there!"
Baron Bedman hesitated. "Shouldn't we wait for High Priest Yansen and the others?"
Several nobles nodded in agreement.
If possible, they preferred not to risk a breakout. After all, those two monsters looked incredibly powerful.
For now, their guards could hold out for a while. Perhaps they could wait for High Priest Yansen to deal with Su Nan, and then, with their help, the monsters would be easy to handle.
Lord Noray frowned, about to speak, when a chilling voice came from behind him.
"Unfortunately, there's no need to wait."
The nobles turned around in shock to see Su Nan standing in the hall, while the Starfire Church's members were nowhere to be seen.
Seeing Su Nan's indifferent expression, their faces turned pale with fear, their hearts gripping with dread.
"You, where are High Priest Yansen and the others?"
Baron Bedman stammered, a glimmer of hope in his eyes.
Su Nan gave him a mocking glance but ignored the obvious question.
In fact, there was no need for an answer. Just by seeing Su Nan here and the Starfire Church members missing, the nobles already knew the outcome, their faces showing sheer horror.
In the next moment, Su Nan raised his hand, and a torrent of lightning surged out, enveloping the nobles.
Most of the nobles were at the knight level, with Lord Noray being the strongest at the intermediate grand knight level.
For opponents of this caliber, Su Nan didn't even bother with spells. He directly manipulated energy particles, forming physical elements that instantly obliterated them all.
After the lightning dissipated, the hall's entrance was littered with charred corpses. Among them, only Lord Noray remained intact, his aged face frozen in a mixture of intense resentment and despair.
To be so brazenly killed on his own territory, no one could feel anything but bitter.
With the nobles dead, the remaining guards quickly lost their fighting spirit. Most fled in panic, while a few loyal guards who tried to avenge their lords were cut down by the double-bladed spider before they could reach Su Nan.
Su Nan didn't linger, strolling out of the hall as if taking a leisurely walk. Along the way, he encountered more soldiers rushing to protect their lords, but they were easily dispatched by the Hidden Dragon and the double-bladed spider.
At the second-circle legendary level, his magical pets and puppets were overwhelming these ordinary soldiers, who weren't even knights. Even the occasional knight-level officers couldn't stop him.
Su Nan pushed through, first visiting the Starfire Church's branch in Yarren City, then heading to the city gates and the barracks to retrieve his golem puppets before leaving at his leisure.
The tens of thousands of troops stationed in Yarren City could do nothing to stop him, only watching helplessly as he left, leaving behind a trail of chaos.
In the Soman Province, on the cliffs of High Cliff City, Kai stood atop a hill, gazing at the distant castle. His eyes flickered with a mix of thoughts.
High Cliff City was built on a mountainside, with a steep cliff behind it, soaring hundreds of meters high. The cliff face was smooth and sheer, impossible even for knights to climb.
The castle was flanked by dense forests on either side, with only a narrow, human-passable mountain path leading to its front. This made it an easy place to defend but difficult to attack.
If he had a choice, Kai would rather not tackle this tough nut. However, High Cliff City stood directly in the path of their advance into Soman Province. If they didn't take it first, they risked being stabbed in the back by High Cliff City's forces during a heated battle, cutting off their supply lines with disastrous consequences.
On the other hand, Soman Province was mostly hilly terrain. Once they captured High Cliff City, the Blackrock Cavalry's strategic depth would significantly expand, allowing them to isolate and systematically conquer the towns and cities of Soman Province.
In essence, taking High Cliff City would mean winning half the war.
This was why he had personally led the army here. He couldn't afford to take this battle lightly.
"Sir."
Bred walked up from behind, handing over a scroll of parchment.
"This is the latest report from the rear."
Kai took it and opened it, his face breaking into a smile.
"Su Nan never fails to impress."
Seeing Bret's curious expression, Kai chuckled and tossed the report to him.
"Read it yourself."
Bret opened it and his face lit up with surprise and delight.
"Twenty-three nobles, including Lord Nolay, Viscount Sulik, Viscount Dubi, and Baron Bedman, have been killed."
"High Priest Yansen of the Starfire Church has also been slain, and the church's branch in Yarren City has been reduced to ruins."
"The vanguard of the Lake Lan Province suffered heavy casualties, with initial estimates of at least two thousand dead!"
"Amazing!"
Even Bret, known for his calm demeanor, couldn't hide his excitement at the news. With such a severe blow and the loss of their commander, the vanguard of Yarren City would be in no position to attack Golden Wheat City anytime soon.
Until a new commander and reinforcements arrived, Golden Wheat City wouldn't have to worry about threats from Lake Lan Province.
As for whether Lake Lan Province could quickly send new reinforcements and a commander, Bred had his doubts. After all, Lord Su Nan had once mentioned that Yarren City was just the first stop, and more "surprises" were in store for Lake Lan Province and the Starfire Church.
"With Su Nan handling Lake Lan Province, we don't need to worry about that front. Stally can handle things in Golden Wheat City."
"We can't let Su Nan outdo us; we need to take High Cliff City as soon as possible."
Kai's eyes gleamed with determination as he turned to Bred.
"Are the puppet troops in position?"
"They have reached the designated location!" Bred nodded firmly.
"Good, order the attack!"
"Yes, sir!"
Soon, the melodious sound of trumpets echoed through the air. On the plains at the base of the hill, the Flash Army, which had been poised and ready, began to move, gradually accelerating toward High Cliff City until they were in full charge.
Led by the towering stone golems, the army surged forward like a tidal wave, heading straight for High Cliff City.
From the walls of the stone fortress, the generals watched the approaching army, particularly the massive rock giants at the forefront, and their faces paled.
"Is this the Flash Army's golem corps?"
"Can our soldiers stand a chance against such monsters?"
"I've heard these golems are as strong as knights."
Seeing the soldiers' morale plummet even before the enemy had truly attacked, Baron Wilkin, the lord of High Cliff City, loudly interrupted his subordinates.
"Panicking won't help!"
"The terrain here is narrow and steep, making it difficult for the enemy to maneuver. We have sufficient troops, and as long as we work together, the enemy won't stand a chance of taking High Cliff City!"
"I've already requested reinforcements from the earl. As long as we hold out for three days, the earl's reinforcements will arrive, and we'll be safe!"
Baron Wilkin's words managed to boost the morale of the defenders.
However, just then, a commotion erupted from the rear. A soldier, his face pale with fear, sprinted toward them.
"L-lord, it's bad! The enemy's army is climbing up the cliff from behind!"
Baron Wilkin's face turned ashen. He grabbed the soldier by the collar, his face livid as he snarled, "Impossible! No one can climb that cliff, not even knights. What kind of army can do that?"
"They're spiders, huge spiders!" the soldier stammered, "There are so many of them. The few men at the gate couldn't stop them. They've already entered the city and are heading this way!"
Baron Wilkin released the soldier and rushed to the edge of the wall. Sure enough, he saw a cloud of dust and movement in the distance, with the shadowy forms of giant black spiders charging through the city, rapidly approaching.
The sight made Baron Wilkin's vision go black, and he staggered, almost falling.
His deputy quickly caught him, panic in his voice. "Lord, are you alright?"
Baron Wilkin couldn't respond, his face drained of color. One thought echoed in his mind.
It's over!
Completely over!
At the same time, the heavy footsteps of the approaching stone golems reached the base of the wall. The massive golems, like charging tanks, crashed into the walls with a deafening boom.
Boom!
