Chapter 12: Everything is Known
Chapter 12: Everything is Known
Silence and darkness enveloped the surroundings, filled with an eerie quiet.
A black silhouette suddenly approached, emitting a cackling laugh.
It had no limbs, only a body the size of a human head floating in the air, its dark red eyes staring at the white-clad girl like a predator eyeing its prey.
In the next moment, the limbless body suddenly sprouted a hand with only two fingers, reaching for the girl's heart.
The hand passed through her body, empty-handed.
The black silhouette's eyes widened in disbelief.
The girl lifted her head, and a face devoid of features slowly came into view...
"Fang!"
Fangflare lunged into Qiao Sang's arms.
It didn't want to see anymore!
Qiao Sang stroked its head, feeling a bit regretful...
...
...
The next two days were the weekend, and Qiao Sang declined Fang Sisi's invitation to go out, choosing to study at home instead.
Apart from making a trip to the Beastmaster Center to register as a Beastmaster and Fangflare as her familiar, she spent almost all her time reading.
Perhaps due to the awakening of her brain domain, her memory had improved significantly from her past life. She only needed to read once to remember most of the content.
Soon, it was time to go back to school.
"Fangflare, be a good boy and stay in the Beastmaster Codex. I'll let you out as soon as school is over", Qiao Sang coaxed.
Ever since Fangflare got bored with entering and exiting the Beastmaster Codex, it hadn't gone back in.
This time, Qiao Sang wanted it to go in again, but it showed some resistance.
It preferred staying outside rather than in the Beastmaster Codex.
"Fang."
Fangflare shook its head, indicating it didn't want to go in.
Qiao Sang felt a bit helpless. The school didn't have a strict rule against bringing familiars, but with no one else having bonded with theirs yet, having Fangflare out would attract too much attention.
Qiao Sang didn't want to be the center of attention.
"If you come in, I'll buy you a Red Goo Fruit when we get back", Qiao Sang tempted.
Fangflare turned its head away, acting all high and mighty.
It didn't want to.
Qiao Sang's lips twitched.
Her mother had bought six Red Goo Fruits last time. She had fed four to Fangflare on the first day and one each day for the next two days.
Could it be that it was already tired of them?
"If you don't come in, I'll have to go alone."
"I'll go."
"I really mean it."
Qiao Sang crouched by the entrance, put on her shoes, and made a show of leaving.
"Fang!"
Fangflare pounced into Qiao Sang's arms, its wet eyes looking at her pitifully.
"You can only come with me if you go in first. I promise I'll let you out as soon as school is over", Qiao Sang said.
"Fang." Fangflare drooped its head and responded listlessly.
Qiao Sang's heart melted.
It's still a child.
Verdant Haven was in the school district of Wencheng Junior High School, only 9 kilometers away. Buses 23, 36, and 57, as well as the metro lines 5 and 7, could get her there directly.
Qiao Sang didn't choose to take the metro as usual.
On bus 36.
Fangflare happily stuck its head out the window, the wind messing up its fur.
It was excited to see the world outside.
"Remember, you have to come in when we get to school, okay?" Qiao Sang smiled.
"Fang!"
Fangflare responded with renewed energy.
Qiao Sang couldn't resist petting its head.
When they got off the bus, Fangflare obediently allowed Qiao Sang to put it into the Beastmaster Codex, even wagging its tail happily.
...
Wencheng Junior High School, Class 3-7.
"Have you finished your homework? Can I copy it?"
"Can't you see I'm still copying?"
"..."
"Did you watch yesterday’s match in Lianbo District?"
"Of course! I’ve been waiting in front of the TV since 7 PM. Lin Jinyang’s Blood Dragon was just amazing!"
"Right, right! And that Scale Eater, it was golden! I’ve never seen a golden Scale Eater before. It nearly blinded me!"
"..."
"I heard that Dai Shushu from Class Nine got a Direct Admission to Holy Water High School."
"Didn’t they say it was Litan Beastmaster High School last time?"
"It seems the slot was cut."
"Truly, our province’s top high school. Even Dai Shushu couldn’t get in."
"Why don’t you get into Holy Water High School and show me?"
"..."
A slender figure appeared at the classroom door.
As the figure walked in, the chatter gradually died down.
Qiao Sang sat down and noticed some classmates stealing glances at her.
Feeling the strange atmosphere in the classroom, Qiao Sang touched her nose and whispered to Fang Sisi, "Did you tell the class about my Spontaneous Awakening?"
Fang Sisi was still frantically copying her homework, but hearing the voice beside her, she realized Qiao Sang had arrived.
"Thigh, you’re finally here." Fang Sisi’s eyes sparkled as she leaned over, "I wouldn’t say anything without your permission. Do you want me to spread the word in the class?"
"Absolutely not." Qiao Sang shook her head quickly, then asked in confusion, "Then why are they all staring at me?"
"Didn’t your mom come to the school twice, and then you took a day off and skipped a day of class? Everyone’s guessing if something happened to you." Fang Sisi explained.
Qiao Sang was taken aback, "Skipped a day of class?"
"Yes."
Although she suspected her mother might have forgotten to ask for leave, Qiao Sang still felt a bit disheartened when her guess was confirmed.
Would Class Teacher call her to the office for another scolding...
At that moment, Fang Sisi added, "And everyone knows you got a zero on the mock exam."
Class Teacher hadn’t directly criticized her in front of the class to save Qiao Sang’s face, but afterward, she had the Class Study Commissioner call Qiao Sang to the office and even summoned her parents to the school.
If it had ended there, no one would have been particularly interested, as Qiao Sang’s poor grades and being called to the office were not unusual.
But the fact that her parents were involved made it more serious.
After all, Class Teacher rarely called parents for anything other than fights or serious misconduct.
At the time, after school, neither Qiao Sang, the Class Study Commissioner, nor the Class Teacher had said anything, so not many people knew.
However, when Qiao Sang took a day off and skipped the following day, it became clear that something was up. The gossip started to spread like wildfire, and soon everyone knew the whole story.
Qiao Sang was both amused and exasperated, but she didn’t feel particularly bothered.
In this small school, news traveled fast.
Getting a zero on the exam and having her parents called in wasn’t exactly a distortion of the truth. At her age, some might feel ashamed, but Qiao Sang didn’t have that kind of pressure.
"By the way, did you do the Spirit Plant Analysis homework? Can I copy it?" Fang Sisi nudged Qiao Sang’s arm.
"How would I know what homework there is when I wasn’t here? Besides, you being fourth from the bottom and copying from me, who’s third from the bottom, isn’t that embarrassing?" Qiao Sang was speechless.
"Thigh, you’re not allowed to talk about yourself like that." Fang Sisi chided, then made a pouty face, "I just assumed your mom brought you the homework when she came to school on Friday. I really envy those who don’t have to do homework."
Qiao Sang: "..."
Ignoring Fang Sisi’s antics, Qiao Sang fell into deep thought.
She still didn’t know why her mother had come to the school last time.
