Chapter 12: Another Battle
Chapter 12: Another Battle
"Ah, it's you two."
Jing He smiled and stopped in his tracks.
The two of them quickly approached him, addressing him as teacher once again.
Come to think of it, he wasn't much older than them. Because he had skipped grades during his studies, he was only a few years older than Daidou and the others, making them more or less the same age.
So, while the two of them respected him as a teacher, they weren't overly formal, and instead, felt quite at ease around him.
Of course, a significant reason for this was that Jing He had provided psychological intervention for Daidou's Metang, which had yielded excellent results.
"Teacher, you're here. We didn't find you in the counseling room earlier. Were you training your Pokemon?" Dujuan asked, somewhat surprised.
As a teacher at the Pokemon Academy, it was quite normal for him to have Pokemon. However, in her impression, Jing He, with his outstanding theoretical knowledge, didn't seem to have any Pokemon.
Daidou, however, was more aware of this.
During the psychological intervention for Metang, Jing He had summoned his Gastly.
"Yep," Jing He replied with a smile, not trying to hide it. "What brings you here?"
"Teacher, it's like this," Daidou began, explaining the situation.
It turned out that Dujuan had recently captured a Pokemon, but it had a rather aggressive temperament.
Pokemon have varied personalities, so while some are gentle, others can be aggressive. Therefore, Dujuan hadn't been too concerned when she first caught it, thinking she could gradually train and tame it.
However, the Pokemon's behavior had only worsened, to the point where it was becoming increasingly disobedient to her commands, causing her a lot of frustration.
Recently, Dujuan had heard from Daidou that Jing He had helped his Metang with psychological therapy, significantly improving its state. This made her wonder if her Pokemon might also have psychological issues.
After hearing her out, Jing He asked, "Your Pokemon isn't obeying you. Did you not battle and capture it?"
Dujuan looked a bit embarrassed and said softly, "It's the offspring of my father's Pokemon."
Jing He nodded in understanding.
He glanced around and said, "Let's take a look, but this place isn't suitable."
"There's a battle arena behind the training hall," Daidou suggested.
The outdoor battle arena, which was usually bustling with activity, was now empty, with only a few people tidying up and preparing to leave, likely due to the overcast sky and the threat of rain.
The three of them made their way to a secluded corner of the arena. At Jing He's gesture, Dujuan took out a Poke Ball.
A red light flashed, and her Pokemon appeared on the field.
"Heycha!"
It looked like a gray, round stone with muscular, rocky arms.
A Rock and Ground-type Pokemon, it was a Bouldene!
The moment it appeared, it glanced at the three of them, crossed its arms, and closed its eyes, its disdain obvious.
"A Bouldene?" Jing He was a bit surprised.
Bouldene and similar Pokemon are not uncommon; a trip to a mountain with sparse vegetation would likely yield at least ten of them. However, Rock and Ground-type Pokemon, especially Bouldene and Geodude, are generally calm or even silent, so an aggressive one was quite rare.
"Heycha!"
Seeming to hear someone calling its name, the Bouldene looked at Jing He.
Seeing a sharp-featured, deep-eyed, and handsome young man, the Bouldene's disdain only grew.
Especially when it noticed Jing He's scrutinizing gaze, its temper couldn't be held back.
"Heycha!"
It leaped forward, charging straight at Jing He!
Daidou and Dujuan's expressions changed at the sight.
Daidou reached for his belt, and Dujuan grabbed her Poke Ball, ready to recall the Bouldene.
"Kyaah!"
However, before they could act, a black mist emerged from Jing He, followed by the grinning face of Gastly.
Sensing the cold aura, the Bouldene showed no signs of backing down. Its eyes narrowed, and it charged at Gastly.
Collision!
Puff!
But when it hit Gastly, it only created a hole in the gaseous Pokemon, which quickly healed, causing no damage.
"Heycha?"
The Bouldene landed and looked confused.
"Kyaah—"
Gastly's laughter continued, but its grin now held a hint of hostility.
Clearly, the Bouldene's sudden attack on Jing He had upset it.
Meanwhile, Daidou summoned his Metang, ready to intervene if the Bouldene made any more aggressive moves.
"Ku!"
Metang let out a deep, stern call toward the Bouldene.
The previously arrogant Bouldene's face flashed with fear at the sight of Metang, but it quickly regained its composure.
"Hey, heycha!"
Jing He observed all of this with a keen eye.
"Teacher Jing He, I'm sorry, I didn't know it would—"
Dove quickly apologized and prepared to recall the Bouldery into its Poke Ball.
But Jing He stopped her with a gesture.
The sudden attack from the Bouldery did catch him off guard, but with Gastly by his side, he wasn't frightened.
As the Bouldery used Tackle, a Pokedex entry for it appeared in his mind.
Bouldery
Type: Rock, Ground
Ability: Rock Head
Moves: Tackle, Harden, Mud-Slap, Rock Polish, Rollout, Seismic Toss, Rock Throw, Block, Endure, Heavy Slam
Mood: Agitated, Arrogant
Condition: Excellent (It just had a full meal, and it's eager for a fight)
Friendship: -20 (You're too weak, you don't deserve to call its name)
Too weak. A black line appeared on Jing He's forehead.
However, it couldn't be denied that Dove's Bouldery was quite impressive. It was no surprise, given that it was the descendant of her father's Pokemon, and it had even inherited the move Heavy Slam.
Perhaps because it had seen the strength of Dove's father's Pokemon, it looked down on both Jing He and Dove. However, it seemed to be wary of Daiwu's Steelix.
Dove hadn't captured Bouldery through battle, and she likely pampered it, which only fueled its arrogance.
Solving this kind of Pokemon problem was actually quite simple.
A bit of "education" would do the trick.
Jing He decided to handle it himself.
Of course, it wasn't because Bouldery had disrespected him; it was because he wanted to give Gastly some practical combat experience, and Bouldery was a perfect choice.
Yeah, that's it.
"Teacher, Bouldery—" Dove spoke with concern.
"Let me try. If everything goes smoothly, we can resolve this today," Jing He said calmly.
"Really?" Dove's face lit up with surprise.
Daiwu was also taken aback.
Resolve it today?
Jing He didn't explain and turned to Bouldery. "Want to have a battle?"
"Heka?"
You?
Bouldery gave him a sidelong glance.
Jing He smiled.
Without waiting for Bouldery's response, he commanded, "Gastly, say hello, use Dark Stare."
"Kek!"
Hearing this, Gastly fixed its gaze on Bouldery. As Bouldery looked back, Gastly suddenly made a terrifying face. Several eyes appeared around it, staring intently at Bouldery.
Bouldery shivered involuntarily, taken aback by the sudden fright.
Then, anger rose from its heart.
"Heka!"
Bouldery shouted, swinging its fists and charging at Gastly in the air.
"Don't dodge, use Curse."
Jing He took a couple of steps back to create some distance and gave the command calmly.
Normal-type moves couldn't affect Ghost-type Pokemon, and without a trainer's guidance, Bouldery didn't seem to realize this.
Gastly cackled, letting Bouldery's fists pass through it. The eerie laughter echoed in Bouldery's mind.
Then, a black shadow shot out from Gastly and quickly entered Bouldery's body, making Gastly's once solid form become more ethereal.
Bouldery landed and was startled, but it soon relaxed, realizing it hadn't taken any damage.
Suddenly, Gastly's head appeared behind it.
"Kek?"
A crimson tongue flicked out, and the sticky saliva made Bouldery's heart shudder.
It felt... like it was poisoned?
Its hands felt weak, and its body wasn't responding.
Clearly, Bouldery had been lucky. Gastly's first use of Lick in a real battle triggered the Paralyze effect.
From there, it was even simpler.
"Gastly, use Confuse Ray."
"Hypnosis."
"Will-O-Wisp."
"..."
Daiwu and Dove, who had moved to the side, watched the one-sided "education" of the two Pokemon, almost instinctively exchanging glances.
"Dove, you... didn't provoke Teacher Jing He, did you?" Daiwu asked in a low voice.
Hearing the calm voice and Gastly's satisfied laughter, Dove shivered involuntarily.
"No, no, I didn't. But Bouldery did seem to offend the teacher."
Soon, the commotion in the arena ceased.
Dove couldn't help but let out a long sigh of relief.
Finally, it was over.
At that moment, Jing He asked, "Dove, do you have a healing spray?"
"Y-Yes," Dove responded instinctively.
She looked at the Bouldery lying on the ground, covered in various debuffs and already unable to fight, and thought to herself:
'It needs to be healed.'
But then Jing He said, "Good, heal it, and let's have another battle."
Dove: "???"
