Chapter 119: The Weakest Alchemical Creature
Chapter 119: The Weakest Alchemical Creature
In the midst of intense learning and discussions, two weeks flew by in the blink of an eye.
By the time Ivan completed the various spell-proof items, only three days remained before the Ministry of Magic's inspection team arrived.
The previously empty shelves in the shop were now filled with exquisite magical items, most of which Ivan had crafted with Aisia and Tom Riddle over the past few days.
The remaining few items were sent by the Weasley twins, George and Fred.
At the beginning of his research on Spell-Proof Gloves, Ivan had written to them to inquire about ancient runes.
However, their knowledge of runes was limited and largely overlapped with what Tom Riddle had taught, so it didn't contribute much.
Still, Ivan remembered that their prank items were extremely popular in the original story, so he wrote to them again a few days ago, asking them to send some finished products for him to sell in the shop.
This morning, two owls flew into the magic shop, delivering a package and a letter.
[To Ivan Hals:
Thank you for thinking of us during your enjoyable summer holiday.
We have read your letter. George and I, as the owners of Weasley's Wizard Wheezes (though it hasn't officially opened yet), authorize you to sell our products on our behalf.
We are proud to introduce our latest invention, the Puffpuff. Despite its lack of offensive capabilities and vulnerability, it is incredibly cute, and we believe it will be a big hit!
We also included fake Wands, quick-quotes Quills, Extendable Ears, and Dungbombs. The specific usage methods are written on the enclosed sheet.
Note: To prevent interception, the enclosed sheet has been enchanted with a protective spell. The spell to break it should not be a problem for you. Finally, we hope the address we filled out is correct, assuming you really live in Knockturn Alley.]
Ivan picked up the package, which was very light, likely due to a weight-reducing charm.
No wonder they could send it via owl.
"These guys haven't been idle these past few days", Ivan said to himself as he opened the package and looked at its contents.
He remembered that before leaving school, George and Fred had only managed to create Dungbombs and quick-quotes Quills. He hadn't expected that in just over a month, they had come up with so many interesting items.
He wondered how they managed to conduct their research under Mrs. Weasley's watchful eye.
Ivan smiled and then turned his attention to the Puffpuff, finding the alchemical creature highly intriguing.
It looked like a pink, fluffy ball, about the size of a young Wizard's fist. Ivan tried holding it and found it incredibly light.
The Puffpuff quietly rested in Ivan's hand, its body gently arching, and its pink fur rubbing against Ivan's palm, surprisingly comforting.
[Alchemical Creature: Puffpuff
Magic Power: Low
Description: This might be the weakest alchemical creature in history, with abilities including but not limited to being cute, rolling, jumping, and spinning. It will slowly absorb the Magic Power emitted by its owner to maintain its activity.]
Looking at the information provided by the system, Ivan was speechless.
However, its cuteness alone was enough; what more could he ask for?
Placing the Puffpuff on his shoulder, Ivan took the instruction sheet from the package, but it was blank, with no writing on it.
"Hmm, let me think." Ivan stroked his chin, considering what kind of passphrase they might have used. Suddenly, he realized something and pointed his Wand at the blank sheet.
"I solemnly swear I am up to no good!"
Ripples of magic spread from the center of the paper, and lines of text appeared on the surface.
"Indeed, it’s this one." Ivan smiled. He had seen similar protective magic on the Marauder's Map, but he didn’t expect these two to actually manage to create it.
In comparison, the attached sheet of paper wasn’t as special as the Marauder's Map. It was just ordinary parchment and not a Magic Item.
After a quick glance, Ivan was surprised to find that the Weasley Twins had not only included a description of the items but also detailed the manufacturing process, asking for his suggestions for improvement.
Ivan appreciated this trust and began to examine the method for creating Puffpuff.
After reading, Ivan realized that this alchemical version of Puffpuff was similar to some of the intelligent (or not so intelligent) robots in the Muggle world, capable of performing only simple actions based on pre-programmed instructions.
George and Fred’s father, Arthur Weasley, worked at the Ministry of Magic’s Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office and had many Muggle mechanical devices at home. They likely drew their inspiration from there.
Ding Dong
Just as Ivan was about to study the Puffpuff, the clear sound of a bell rang from the door. Turning his head, he saw that it was none other than Douglas, whom he hadn’t seen in a long time.
"Is there something wrong, Headmaster Douglas?" Ivan put down the cute Puffpuff and asked.
"I received a message that the Ministry of Magic’s inspectors will be here in two or three days." Douglas frowned, his tone urgent.
Walking in, Douglas noticed that the place had changed a bit from before, but he didn’t take the time to look around, asking hastily:
"Why haven’t you gotten rid of these Dark Magic Items yet? Where’s Aisia?"
"Headmaster Douglas, this is a legitimate magic shop, and we don’t have any of the Dark Magic Items you mentioned."
Ivan’s expression turned serious as he interrupted Douglas, then continued:
"Don’t be fooled by our location in Knockturn Alley. Despite operating here, we deeply aspire to the light. We have always been dedicated to the research and prevention of Dark Magic. We now have some significant achievements, and I would like to introduce our main product—the Spell-Proof Gloves!"
"Would you like to buy a pair, Headmaster?" Ivan pointed to the prominent shelf behind him.
Douglas was dumbfounded. Had he come to the wrong place, or was this kid out of his mind?
"Save that for the Ministry of Magic inspectors." Aisia, who had quietly approached behind Ivan, ruffled his hair and said.
Aisia was quite helpless. She really didn’t understand why Ivan, at such a young age, had so many peculiar ideas.
What exactly were the current professors at Hogwarts teaching in their classes?
But upon further thought, Aisia realized that Ivan’s words made sense. Perhaps she could use them herself in the future.
"I was just practicing, Headmaster Douglas. What do you think of the effect?" Ivan shrugged and looked at the stunned man.
(PS: I am deeply grateful for everyone’s support and encouragement. I will update at least four chapters today! By the way, Aisia’s ability to use Inverted Bell is not a bug; it will be explained later. Also, Puffpuff is a low-risk magical creature, and I made a mistake in the previous description. This is a bug.)
