Chapter 119: Han People of the Hu Yin Tribe
Chapter 119: Han People of the Hu Yin Tribe
On the very day that Lu HaiKong departed, Yue Er, a female, arrived shortly after his departure, looking so different that he might not have recognized her.
Yue Er was dressed in tattered, dark clothing, her body covered in dozens of wounds. Her eyes, once full of vitality, now radiated killing intent, making her resemble a malevolent spirit from hell. It was hard to imagine what she had endured in the recent days.
When Yue Er arrived at Lu HaiKong's camp, she was also surprised by the changes. At the basin's entrance, where she had once destroyed a camp, thousands of people were now enthusiastically building a fortified wall.
With her keen eyes, Yue Er immediately noticed that these NPCs were not the typical, slow-witted, system-generated natives. She was amazed that in such a short time, Lu HaiKong's camp had managed to gather so many NPCs.
As Yue Er observed the NPCs, a group of bandits responsible for guarding the area noticed her. Initially, they thought she was a refugee seeking to join the camp, but then they realized that refugees wouldn't be riding horses or carrying large bundles on their backs. Concerned that she might be a government spy, the bandits approached her.
The bandits hurried over, but in their haste, they disturbed Yue Er, who was deep in thought. She abruptly lifted her head, glaring at the bandits surrounding her. The bandits felt as if they were being stared down by a fierce tiger, and they froze, unable to speak.
It wasn't that the bandits were cowardly; Yue Er was simply too powerful. Her Strength had likely surpassed 70 points, and the disparity between her and the bandits, who didn't even have Strength Points, was enough to intimidate them.
Yue Er didn't have time to deal with these bandits. "Send your leader to meet me," she ordered.
Hearing this, one of the bandits quickly returned to the camp, and soon, Wang Chao emerged with the bandit leader.
Wang Chao recognized Yue Er, despite her drastically altered appearance.
Noticing Wang Chao, Yue Er frowned. "Where is your leader?"
"Miss Yue Er, our leader is not in the camp. He's gone out," the bandit replied.
"Gone out? At this time? Ugh, what bad luck!" Yue Er exclaimed, then muttered to herself in dissatisfaction. She turned and threw a package to Wang Chao.
"Tell him when he returns that these are in exchange for the Tiger King Spear Technique and Tiger King Tactics. I still owe him an Inner Strength Technique, and let him know that I'll be leaving Bingzhou for a while. I might not be able to repay him soon, but assure him that Zhao Yue Er's debts are never left unpaid!"
After saying this, Yue Er pulled on the reins, turned her horse, and left.
Wang Chao was left holding the package, looking bewildered. He could only return to the camp and entrust the package to Wang Jun for safekeeping.
...
Meanwhile, Lu HaiKong was unaware that he had missed Yue Er's farewell. He was traveling with a bandit towards the Hu Yin Tribe.
Lu HaiKong and his companions, lightly equipped, were moving faster than Li Xiong's caravan with over two hundred carts of goods. In just a day and a night, they reached the outskirts of the Hu Yin Tribe.
Lu HaiKong and his group did not enter the tribe directly. Li Xiong's interaction with Hu Yin Wenzi had already attracted the attention and displeasure of some high-ranking members of the tribe. Suddenly appearing with three Han people would undoubtedly draw attention.
As night fell, Lu Haikong and his companions found a place to rest before stealthily making their way into the Hu Yin tribe's camp under the cover of darkness.
Sneaking into the tribe wasn't particularly challenging for them, given the sheer size of the population, which numbered in the tens of thousands. With so many people around, a few extra individuals going unnoticed in the darkness was not an uncommon occurrence.
However, once inside, Lu Haikong and his friends encountered a dilemma. The tribe was enormous, and they couldn't locate Li Xiong's whereabouts right away. The bandit, who had accompanied them, only vaguely recalled the location of their truck, and it would take some time for him to pinpoint it within the vast tribe.
With no other option, they had to search. Fortunately, the tribe wasn't so large that they couldn't eventually find Li Xiong.
Lu Haikong's search wasn't aimless, and he seemed to have gained a memory boost post-transmigration, almost bordering on photographic recall. As he navigated the tribe, his mind automatically mapped out the paths he had taken.
After searching for some time, Lu Haikong had managed to piece together a rough layout of the tribe's tent distribution. Even better, they seemed to be getting closer to Li Xiong's location.
As they passed by a tent, Lu Haikong's steps suddenly halted. He thought he heard voices speaking in a language that sounded like Han Chinese.
It wasn't unusual to hear people talking, but the language caught his attention. The only ones who could speak Han Chinese in the entire tribe were Li Xiong's bandit group. Could they have found them so quickly?
Lu Haikong glanced questioningly at the bandit, asking if they were near their destination. The bandit shook his head confidently, indicating that Li Xiong's location was still some distance away. Lu Haikong's eyes narrowed in confusion. If not here, then who was speaking Han Chinese inside the tent? Were they part of Li Xiong's group, or were there other Han Chinese in the tribe?
Just then, a gust of cold wind blew, causing the bandit to shiver and sneeze despite his attempt to stifle it with his hand. A muffled sound escaped nonetheless.
"Who's there?" a robust man exclaimed in Xianbei, tearing open the tent fabric nearest to Lu Haikong.
In the blink of an eye, Lu Haikong and his companions had vanished, their reactions even swifter than the man's.
The robust man, finding no one around, scratched his head in confusion. After a thorough inspection, he concluded that no one was there and retreated back into the tent.
"What's going on out there?" a Han Chinese voice asked from within the tent.
The robust man scratched his head, "I must have misheard. With my skills, if there was anyone out there, they couldn't have escaped so quickly. Besides, their attention is focused on their own group; no one would waste time on me."
"They're oblivious to your strength, unaware that you're the leader of the Hu Yin tribe and the most formidable among the Xianbei. If they knew, they'd be too anxious to sleep. But we're at a critical juncture, so caution is best."
"Rest assured, I have the situation under control."
