Chapter 119: Evolution
Chapter 119: Evolution
Inside Ye Qingsnow's office at Quancheng Third Middle School.
A knock sounded.
Without lifting her head, Ye Qingsnow continued examining the documents in her hands.
"Come in!"
The door opened, and a boy entered, standing respectfully before Ye Qingsnow.
"Did you call for me, Teacher?"
Ye Qingsnow paused, lifting her head to look at the boy before her.
"Your training progress has been lacking lately."
The boy, startled, stammered, "Teacher, I..."
"You don't need to explain. I understand your situation. Your grandmother is seriously ill, and you've been taking care of her these days. It's understandable that your training has fallen behind."
The boy, or Lin Jianying, was taken aback, seemingly surprised that Ye Qingsnow was so easygoing.
Ye Qingsnow didn't pay attention to Lin Jianying's surprise. She continued looking at the documents in her hands and said, "However, even though it's understandable, the fact remains that your training progress is lagging."
"I hope you can manage this situation and find a balance between taking care of your grandmother and keeping up with your training. This is something you must do well. After all, you're not alone; you have two teammates. If your training falls behind, it will affect them as well."
Lin Jianying nodded, "Teacher, please rest assured. I will definitely work hard to catch up."
"Hmm!"
Ye Qingsnow didn't say much more; she merely nodded in acknowledgment.
Then, she resumed her work, leaving the office in an awkward silence.
"Um, Teacher, if there's nothing else, I'll go back to training."
Ye Qingsnow nodded in response.
Lin Jianying touched his nose and turned to leave.
But just as he opened the door to leave, Ye Qingsnow suddenly looked up and said, "By the way, there will be an assessment in ten days. If you can't keep up with the training progress, you'll have to leave the current squad and transfer to a second-line squad!"
Lin Jianying was taken aback and immediately turned to look at Ye Qingsnow.
However, she wasn't even looking at him, nor did she intend to engage in a staring contest. Lin Jianying opened his mouth but couldn't say anything else, so he silently left...
...
In the Great Graveyard Realm of Quancheng, at the Great Graveyard.
After spending several days in this environment, Lu Wu, despite his cleanliness obsession, gradually adapted to the Great Graveyard's conditions.
Recently, he had been able to walk on the ground, no longer perched on the Stormy Grizzly's shoulders as he had been in the previous days.
However, Lu Wu hadn't touched the mini-skeleton for several days.
He had no choice; this little guy was too mischievous.
Combined with the inherent issues of the Great Graveyard environment, within a few days, the mini-skeleton successfully made itself filthy, becoming a mobile source of putrid odors.
Not only that, but it kept leaning against Lu Wu, which annoyed him.
If it weren't for the fact that it was his, Lu Wu would have thrown away this mini-skeleton long ago.
"Just bear with it a little longer. It's about to evolve. Once it evolves, I'll be free of this trouble."
Lu Wu consoled himself as he headed towards the mini-skeleton's designated evolution point.
The evolution point Lu Wu had chosen for the mini-skeleton was located in a basin surrounded by eighteen large graves, fifteen li east of the Great Graveyard camp.
Due to its basin-like terrain, the ground was lower, filled with black liquid.
As soon as Lu Wu arrived, he couldn't stand it and had to return to the Stormy Grizzly's shoulders. The mini-skeleton, on the other hand, loved such places.
Upon seeing this place and hearing Lu Wu's words about letting it enter, the mini-skeleton became excited, its eyes glowing brighter.
It resembled a Labrador Retriever seeing a farm field.
It couldn't wait to get in and cause a ruckus!
At this point, Lu Wu didn't stop it. Anyway, since it was already this dirty, he didn't mind if it got a little dirtier.
However, the owner of this place was not welcoming to the mini-skeleton at all.
As the mini-skeleton rushed into the basin, a jet of black water arrow shot towards it.
A professional sprayer, the black water arrow hit the mini-skeleton's forehead with precision and force.
Fortunately, the mini-skeleton's reaction was swift, and it immediately raised its bone shield to block the water arrow.
Lu Wu, witnessing this, nodded in satisfaction.
"Good, very good. These days of training haven't been in vain. When faced with a sudden situation, you now use magic to defend instead of dodging."
Although the latter might be more energy-efficient, the former was more suitable for the mini-skeleton's bone setup.
Currently, the mini-skeleton was a reserve skeleton mage.
As Lu Wu nodded, the mini-skeleton on the other side had already begun fighting with the basin's owner.
The opponent was a summoned beast of the Corpse Summoner lineage.
It was an evolved form, an elite-level rotting mage, and like the mini-skeleton, it was a magic-type.
Both being mages, one elite and one ordinary, one evolved and one unevolved, the mini-skeleton was particularly passive in the fight.
The rotting mage on the other side howled, waving its hands.
It continuously launched black water arrows.
Meanwhile, the mini-skeleton held up its bone shield while counterattacking with bone fangs.
The two mages resembled two artillery pieces, motionless, just slamming at each other.
This prompted Lu Wu to comment, "Why does it feel like battles between mages are not very interesting?"
This is so rigid! Are these two players not good enough?"
Just as Lu Wu finished speaking, he was immediately proven wrong.
The rigid Necromancer, who was monotonously firing black water arrows, suddenly roared, casting a psychic control spell. The Skeleton Minion it was fighting against was instantly affected, its eyes dimming.
Simultaneously, the black liquid that had been hitting the Bone Shield and falling to the ground beneath the Skeleton Minion started to move, transforming into a black water serpent that instantly trapped the minion.
"Damn it!"
Lu Wu was shocked by what he had just witnessed. He never expected a wild monster to use such cunning tactics.
Without hesitation, Lu Wu gave a decisive order.
"Use Charge!"
At Lu Wu's command, the Skeleton Minion's bones flashed with electricity, breaking free from the control spell. Before the black water serpent could fully entrap it, the minion burst forward, rapidly closing the distance.
The black water serpent didn't let go, clinging tightly to the Skeleton Minion's body.
At the same time, the Necromancer on the other side unleashed another wave of attacks, firing several black water arrows directly at the Skeleton Minion's forehead.
The Necromancer opened its mouth again, clearly preparing to cast another control spell.
Lu Wu calmly gave another order.
"Use the Bone Shield and Charge to close the distance!"
Obediently, the Skeleton Minion held up its Bone Shield, enduring the water arrows. With the speed boost from Charge, it rushed forward and violently shoved the bat into the Necromancer's mouth, interrupting its spellcasting.
The Skeleton Minion then grabbed the bat and furiously beat the Necromancer, quickly reducing it to a near-death state. Just as the Necromancer was about to be defeated, the Skeleton Minion's eyes flashed, remembering Lu Wu's instruction to use spells in combat. It immediately stopped attacking, stepped back, and cast Bone Cage to control the Necromancer, followed by a Bone Spear to finish it off.
This entire process followed the tactics devised by Lu Wu to the letter, leaving no room for deviation.
Lu Wu not only refrained from condemning the Skeleton Minion's attempt to cover up its actions but also insincerely praised it for a job well done.
From the perspective of spellcasting angles and timing, Lu Wu launched into a series of morbid compliments, praising the Skeleton Minion to the point of disorientation.
In the end, Lu Wu genuinely believed that the Skeleton Minion had defeated the Necromancer solely through the use of spells.
The Skeleton Minion expressed its enjoyment of spellcasting and its preference for magical combat.
This was a clear case of being deceived into believing a false narrative.
Lu Wu had gone to great lengths to steer the Skeleton Minion towards the mage path.
After successfully convincing the Skeleton Minion, Lu Wu began to focus on his next task.
He directed the Stormy Grizzly and the Skeleton Minion to gather soil from the surrounding graves, creating a raised platform in the center of the basin.
Once the platform was ready, Lu Wu took out the blood of the Earth Armor Pig and began drawing intricate lines on the ground, forming a massive pattern composed of these lines.
After half an hour, the intricate pattern was complete.
Lu Wu placed the skulls of the defeated Summon Beasts from the Great Graveyard around this pattern and positioned a pig's head at its center. He then took out the Necrotic Flame and placed it atop the pig's head.
With this, Lu Wu's preparations were complete.
After finishing with the Necrotic Flame, Lu Wu stepped back and called the Skeleton Minion, which had been playing in the basin, back to him. It was already drenched.
"Go, step into the pattern, and pick up that Necrotic Flame!"
While the Skeleton Minion played with water like a Labrador, it was remarkably obedient. Upon receiving Lu Wu's command, it obediently stepped into the pattern and curiously picked up the black Necrotic Flame.
"Boom!"
The moment the Skeleton Minion touched the Necrotic Flame, it exploded with a loud boom, igniting the minion.
Its clothes were instantly incinerated, and even the smartphone hidden in its bones was destroyed.
Seeing its phone broken again, the Skeleton Minion grew anxious. However, before it could feel sorry for itself, the entire basin's Undead energy surged towards it.
The black flames surrounding the Skeleton Minion intensified, beginning to materialize and condense. A black mist enveloped the minion.
Soon, the Skeleton Minion was completely shrouded in the dark mist.
Almost simultaneously, Lu Wu felt a chill in his mind, sensing something within his consciousness.
As someone who had experienced this before, Li Kai instantly recognized that Lu Wu's spiritual power was about to advance.
Li Kai was astonished. While Summoners and Summon Beasts shared a similar leveling system, Summoners' advancement was slower, requiring the cultivation of at least two Elite-level Summon Beasts for progression.
Lu Wu only had one Elite-level Summon Beast; how could he be advancing already? However, Li Kai reconsidered; Lu Wu's exceptional abilities made it reasonable for him to level up faster than others.
...
I sense that some will still call me short and soft!
