Chapter 1189: Old Ones Fall, the Young Ones Must Perish
Chapter 1189: Old Ones Fall, the Young Ones Must Perish
The Five Sheng Kong Slash inherently bypassed defense. To counter it, one needed either extreme regenerative capabilities, Haki surpassing the slash’s own, or an ability’s unique characteristic to block it.
Amplifying the Five Sheng Kong Slash and condensing his domain into a single blade strike, the chaotic slash would have reduced anyone else to ashes. No smooth cuts, no clean decapitations—just annihilation.
Only someone of Charlotte·Big Mom’s caliber could survive such an attack.
Kuro extended his right hand toward Lida. “Lida, give me a boost.”
“O-Okay!”
Still dazed, Lida nodded reflexively, stumbling forward to activate his ability—Essence Feedback—channeling revitalizing energy into Kuro’s body.
Crack! Crack!
Kuro rolled his neck, his figure levitating as he hovered above the ground. With a flick of his fingers, the Yokai Blade embedded in the earth soared into his grasp.
Only now did Lida realize what had happened.
“I-You… Kuro! That was a Four Emperors!!” Lida shrieked, pointing at the severed head on the ground.
The Four Emperors!
The term wasn’t about the number “four,” but the title—emperor, sovereign of the seas.
The term originated when Shanks, that idiot, seized massive territories in the New World. Yet “sea emperor” predated this, referring to Charlotte·Big Mom, Whitebeard, and the rising Shanks. These were the supreme rulers of the Grand Line.
Though Shanks fell, Kaido emerged, and once Shanks reclaimed his throne as sea emperor, the Four Emperors era solidified.
Each of these legends was untouchable—a force no one could casually eliminate.
Kaido, captured repeatedly, still thrived.
Charlotte·Big Mom transformed from a pirate into the queen of Totto Land, a mighty nation in the Grand Line. Kaido conquered Wano Country, becoming its “Ming King of National Defense”—every campaign shook the Navy to its core.
During the Top War, Headquarters deployed ten thousand Marine elites against Whitebeard. Not because ten thousand were needed, but because such a force required overwhelming assurance to fall.
Even if Big Mom was weakened by her Aiguó condition, dying from a single slash felt absurd.
Had Kuro truly slain one of the Four Emperors?
Wrong. The second, actually—Shanks had already been captured.
Klah glanced at the fallen Kaido. That made three of the Four Emperors eliminated.
Was the Grand Line finally nearing peace?
“Don’t be so shocked. You underestimate those idiots in the sky.”
Kuro smirked. “Their strength isn’t weak.”
Luffy, burning his life force, could match Four Emperors-level combat power. Eustass Kid and Law fell slightly short, but against Kaido instead of Big Mom, their combined might might prevail. Their battle prowess was no joke.
But at this stage, if Kuro couldn’t finish the job, he might as well retire and farm turnips.
Even a mid-lane elder cutting down an enemy’s last sliver of HP could secure a kill.
Bang!
Charlotte·Big Mom’s headless body crashed to the ground, level with her severed head.
“Mother!!”
Prometheus, Hera, and Anemii—her Homies—rushed from her side, weeping over her corpse.
She was truly dead. No hope of revival.
“Oh? Homies can survive their Devil Fruit user’s death? Interesting. Are you independent beings to begin with?”
Kuro tilted his head, amused. Reflecting, it made sense—Homies could even rebel, clearly sentient. They were soul entities, but not immortal. The stuffed souls had expiration dates, though how long remained unknown.
“Damn you, Golden Lion! I’ll avenge Mother!!”
Prometheus roared, his flame form blazing furiously as he surged toward Kuro.
“Hmph. Just ordinary fire. Without Big Mom, you can’t replicate the Soul Flame.”
Kuro raised his Yokai Blade, slicing through the flames. The fire twisted around the blade before splitting apart.
Prometheus divided in two, writhing as he screamed, “It hurts! It hurts!!”
Cutting through fire? Child’s play. His blade could sever flames, winds, lightning—anything.
Watching Prometheus scream, Kuro shrugged. “Soul Homies can’t die, huh? Still souls at their core. Slicing you in half is pointless.”
“Run!” Anemii howled. A swirling gale erupted, carrying the split Prometheus and thundercloud-form Hera into the bottomless abyss.
Kuro glanced at them but didn’t pursue. These Homies were negligible—no effective way to kill them existed. Not his priority now.
Gripping the Yokai Blade, Kuro glared at the floating figures above. Crimson light flared in his eyes as he bared his teeth. “Let’s settle this in one fight!”
Old ones fall, the young ones must perish!
Eliminate them, and while the Grand Line might not achieve full peace, the pirates’ momentum would wane. The Four Emperors’ deaths would suppress reckless adventurers’ ambitions, at least stabilizing the early seas and Four Blues.
“He’s coming!” Yamato sensed Kuro’s killing intent, his voice trembling.
“No problem! He doesn’t have those eerie ribbons anymore. We can take him!” Law gritted his teeth. “He won’t leave us alive that easily!”
“Perfect!”
Eustass Kid roared, “The old man hasn’t beaten Big Mom yet! Kuro, you stole my spoils—I’ll kill you and claim the Four Emperors throne!”
“Red-haired brat, you and your predecessor share the same arrogance. I’ll make you armless too.”
Kuro exhaled sharply, head dipping. “Also… who said my ‘ribbons’ were gone?”
As he spoke, six new Wu Sheng Kong Sha ribbons materialized around him, coiling around his shoulders, waist, and thighs.
Marco paled. A bitter smile tugged at his lips. “Guess we’re done for.”
They couldn’t resist those ribbons—no counter existed. Marco still didn’t understand how Kuro felled Big Mom in one strike. But he knew one thing: That move couldn’t be blocked.
