Chapter 1185: Spirit King Stance!
Chapter 1185: Spirit King Stance!
Just as Kuro tried to yank out his blade for another strike, his arm suddenly froze—the sword lodged in the old woman’s forearm, refusing to budge.
Her muscles... tightened?!
Crackle!
A surge of thunder erupted from Charlotte·Big Mom’s left arm, surging up the Yokai Blade toward Kuro like wildfire.
The moment the lightning touched the blade, Kuro’s expression shifted. He felt it—his Haki, concentrated on the weapon, was... gone!
The lightning raced along the Yokai Blade, reaching Kuro’s fingers. His pupils contracted. Instinctively, he released the hilt and threw his body backward. The wispy current of thunder almost grazed his torso as it shot past.
As he leaned back, Kuro kicked forward, slamming his foot into the hilt. The blade twisted upward, breaking free from Charlotte’s muscles. Activating its ability, it spiraled back into his grasp.
“Mamamama!”
The instant the Yokai Blade landed in Kuro’s hand, Charlotte·Big Mom’s Napoleon slashed down in a wide arc, its blade crackling with white flame and thunder. The sheer might behind it was terrifying.
No way to dodge now.
Kuro narrowed his eyes. A Black Tortoise shield exploded into existence before him, glowing golden. With no hesitation, he swung his blade in a sharp arc—a full-force Ultimate Mystic Art aimed straight at Napoleon.
Boom!
Napoleon’s strike crashed into the shield first, its white fire sizzling against the barrier. But the impact shattered the shield instantly, sending Napoleon’s blade clashing against Kuro’s Yokai Blade.
Crunch!
A crisp, ringing sound echoed as Kuro twisted downward, narrowly evading Napoleon’s howling slash. His body dipped sideways, floating with the air currents until he hovered above Charlotte·Big Mom.
He glanced at his broken blade, frowning, then fixed his gaze on Napoleon below.
The sentient blade was chewing on the severed fragment, devouring it hungrily.
“Delicious!!” Napoleon shrieked gleefully.
“I think so too!!” Hera chimed in, materializing from Charlotte’s left arm. Its personified face flushed with a dreamy red hue.
The malicious wind swirling around Charlotte poked its head out, grumbling, “I’ve been eating nonstop, but it’s all too random. Not tasty at all.”
Prometheus roared from atop Charlotte’s head, “I haven’t gotten anything!!”
Charlotte·Big Mom lifted her head, a drooping tongue spilling thick drool as she cackled, “Mamamama! Don’t be impatient! The ultimate soul delicacy is right here!”
“Hey, we’ve never forced her into this form before,” murmured Law and Eustass Kid, still trapped in the chaotic space trying to escape. During their battles, Charlotte had only used her soul-searing white fire. They’d never encountered this terrifying ability to nullify Haki.
“An Awakening ability? But it’s more than that,” Kuro muttered, eyes narrowing. “Big Mom, is this your full power?”
“Mamamama! Spirit King Stance!” Charlotte bellowed, gesturing to her blazing white-flame hair. “Soul fire devours souls! My lightning devours spirit—hence, Haki as well!”
The malevolent wind thickened, howling around her.
“And this wind,” she continued, “devours nature itself! Not even your so-called Awakening space is safe from my Homies. And—” She raised Napoleon, pointing it at Kuro. “This blade? It eats everything! Without Haki, your Yokai Blade is just food for Napoleon. The quality of that blade, your Haki—it’s all delighting my Homies!”
Kuro smirked. Compared to Kaido’s monstrous form, this felt... extreme.
But not quite.
“Don’t get too ahead of yourself,” he said, eyeing his broken blade. “You didn’t swallow my Killing Intent, did you?”
The lightning had nullified his Unified Haki, but the Killing Intent layered over it remained intact. The thunder couldn’t pierce through the Killing Intent-infused glove on his finger.
As for “devouring matter”? That was a stretch. It all depended on the blade’s toughness. The Yokai Blade wasn’t as durable as a Black Blade—without Haki, it was just sharper steel.
If this were Kaido’s “Dragon Demon Stance,” Big Mom wouldn’t stand a chance. That form combined absolute defense with raw combat power. But Charlotte had pushed her Devil Fruit to its limits, pairing it with her monstrous physical constitution. Her body could endure the strain of this transformation.
This stance was clearly superior to her earlier white-flame state. But...
“You’re burning through souls fast, aren’t you?” Kuro taunted. “The souls you’ve stolen from your loyal children—do you really have enough?”
“Mamamama! Who needs souls when I have time!?” Charlotte licked her lips. “Devouring you will be a feast! I’m so hungry!”
A strong man’s soul! An Admiral’s soul! The ultimate nourishment!
Though ravenous, Charlotte’s mind was eerily sharp. She pointed at Kuro, shrieking, “A swordsman without a blade loses half their power! And that blade of yours—the one manifesting Killing Intent—is irreplaceable! Without it, you’re mine!”
“Oh? Don’t speak too soon.”
Kuro tightened his grip on the broken Yokai Blade, baring his teeth. “This sword... is special.”
“Yōtō!!”
With no more banter, Napoleon cleaved down, unleashing a wisp of white fire’s shockwave. Charlotte laughed maniacally. “Surrender your soul, Kuro!!”
Boom!!
The white fire engulfed Kuro, flames licking his body. He stared at Charlotte, lips trembling in disbelief.
“Mamamama!!” Charlotte howled, “Kuro, already done!?”
Then came a voice, calm and piercing, from her front.
“Looks like your Hunger Madness made you miscalculate... Big Mom.”
Charlotte froze. She turned to the white-fire-engulfed Kuro—only to find him vanished.
Hiss!
A sharp pain pierced her neck. She heard her Homies screaming, “Mother! Mother!”
Kuro materialized before her, his broken Yokai Blade glowing golden. Gripping it with both hands, he slashed horizontally across her neck. The blade carved into flesh, blood spraying wildly.
White lightning and fire erupted from her arm and head, but Kuro didn’t wait for her to clamp down on the broken blade. He tore it free, flashed upward, and hovered high above.
A Killing Intent illusion.
If Charlotte were sane, she’d never fall for this trick. Kuro would have to bait her. But in this frenzied state? No need.
“Let me remind you,” Kuro grinned, holding his blood-dripping blade, “a swordsman’s blade fears no break.”
The Yokai Blade itself could regenerate through blood absorption!
As the blood pooled toward the blade’s tip, the weapon began reshaping itself... reforming, sharper than before.
