Chapter 1182: Ambush
Chapter 1182: Ambush
"Aren't we going to help her?"
Alecto, standing by the window, turned away from observing Bella's departure and looked at her colleague, Yaxley, who had successfully replaced Lucius' position temporarily as the planner, though she found him as unreliable as Lucius.
"Who knows if it's a trap? Ever since Lucius messed up at the wedding, that Mudblood has been targeting us specifically. And..." Yaxley's tone turned dubious as he looked up and questioned, "Didn't you stay away as well? I recall you and Bellatrix were close."
"She's obsessed with killing that Mudblood, and we don't even know where he is. Charging in blindly is sheer stupidity, and I've had enough of that," Alecto replied, her gaze cold.
"That Mudblood is dangerous; you know that too. If we want to kill him, we need to use different tactics instead of challenging him to a duel. I'm sure you'd end up in the same state as Lucius if you went," Alecto said, a cold smile playing on her lips.
"I thought you hated him. Amycus is still in Azkaban, and he paid to be there," Yaxley sneered.
He had to admit that Alecto was right, but they were Death Eaters, and using any means necessary to achieve their goals was the norm.
When it came to truly wanting to kill someone, only a fool would challenge their target to a duel, and it wasn't necessary to use the Avada Kedavra curse. Using other means to take their life was the most correct and intelligent approach.
After witnessing the tragic fates of Lucius and Bellatrix, Yaxley had no intention of provoking their enemy. Just as Snape had advised, it was best to hide their fangs and wait for the opportune moment to strike at their opponent's weakness and ensure a fatal blow, lest they end up like those two unfortunates.
Any mistake now, after having gained the Dark Lord's trust, would be a disgrace to Yaxley.
"If Bellatrix dies out there, I think the Dark Lord will be displeased," Alecto reminded him.
"It's Bellatrix's choice to go. How could I stop her?" Yaxley shrugged off any responsibility. Although he had been the one to discover and capture Cedric, he had no intention of extracting information from him and had even given the opportunity to Bellatrix. After all, he had more important matters to attend to, such as using Cassandra Vablatsky's family, the author of 'Unfogging the Future,' to threaten her into divining for them. And the Dark Lord seemed pleased with his efficiency in this matter.
"If Bellatrix knew you considered her..."
Alecto's words were rudely interrupted by Yaxley.
"Don't say it like that. I never thought that, and... Bellatrix has become a complete joke now," Yaxley said, a cold smile on his face as he looked at Alecto.
After her last failure, Bellatrix had lost much of the Dark Lord's trust, and he, without a doubt, had the chance to become the Dark Lord's right-hand man.
Alecto's words sounded ridiculous to him.
No, he should say she was a hypocrite.
Unaware that she was being used as a guinea pig, Bellatrix found herself alone as she headed toward the Muggle village. The only thing that angered her was that no one was willing to join her.
At the very least, her sister showed no interest in killing Albert, and the others were scared off by their previous experience, afraid that Bellatrix would lead them into another disaster.
What truly enraged her was Yaxley's decision. He believed that the captured person was likely bait, so he didn't plan to bring him to their base or set up an ambush to target Albert Anderson, who might come to the rescue.
In fact, Yaxley was right. If he had brought Diggory to their base and attempted to ambush Albert, their hideout would soon be surrounded by Aurors from the Ministry of Magic, instead of facing the quartet.
Looking at the dead village before her, Bellatrix frowned slightly and strode forward, wand at the ready.
Soon, a brightly lit house came into view, with faint sounds emanating from within.
As Bellatrix prepared to knock on the door, she noticed it open a crack by itself, and the noises from inside became more distinct.
Something was amiss.
When Bellatrix pushed the door open and stepped into the hallway, her eyes widened, and an Avada Kedavra curse flew from the tip of her wand.
The jet of green light struck the person sitting on the sofa—herself.
Yes, Bellatrix saw her own face, the one before it was disfigured, and in that moment of recognition, she instinctively attacked, for the person before her could not possibly be herself.
Only an enemy would disguise themselves as her.
As Bellatrix approached to inspect the body, she suddenly felt uneasy. Next to the corpse was a wooden plaque with words written on it:
You're here! Kill him or her.
Although Bellatrix didn't care which fool had fallen to her Avada Kedavra curse, it was clear that the Mudblood had set this up.
"Damn Mudblood," she hissed, her teeth clenched as she glared at the wooden plaque, a blatant provocation.
Yaxley's suspicions were correct; this was indeed a trap.
Her opponent had anticipated her arrival and prepared this charade to disgust and enrage her.
She seemed to sense something and abruptly pointed her wand to the right, where she spotted a figure at the edge of the wall, wand drawn and aimed at her.
Another flash of green light.
As Bellatrix approached, she noticed words scrawled on the wall:
They're here.
With a loud crash, something seemed to fall from the ceiling. Bellatrix looked up to see numerous faces resembling hers, hanging in various poses. On each of their bodies was a clear message painted in bold:
You're finished.
One by one, the bodies fell from the ceiling like a merciless mockery.
"Damn, damn, damn them all!"
Bellatrix felt her lungs would explode from rage. Never before had she been toyed with so blatantly.
Just then, the sound of fireworks exploding in the courtyard startled her. As she rushed out, she saw someone setting off fireworks.
That person eventually fell to a green light, and the one killed by the Avada Kedavra curse was yet another unfortunate soul who resembled Bellatrix.
Next to the fallen figure was a wooden plaque with words written on it:
Bellatrix Lestrange will die here! A chilling sensation crept up Bellatrix's spine, and soon she heard hurried footsteps followed by a barrage of Dark Magic spells that made her scalp tingle.
Damn! Facing the onslaught of lethal attacks, Bellatrix instinctively dove to the side, narrowly avoiding the incoming curses.
“I see her, it's Bellatrix."
"Don't let that madwoman get away."
"Kill her, kill her now!"
The shouts of the Aurors could be heard from a distance as they closed in, firing deadly spells at Bellatrix.
The female Death Eater, who had narrowly escaped death, came to her senses and finally realized she had fallen into another trap. This was all carefully orchestrated by her opponent, who dared not face her directly and instead sent these Aurors to do the job.
Under the relentless assault of the Death Eaters, Bellatrix scrambled back into the house, crawling and scurrying like a frightened dog.
Leaning against the wall to catch her breath, she prepared to use Disillusionment to escape. However, to her dismay, she found herself unable to cast the spell.
The Aurors had her cornered in the house.
"No, I can't die here, not yet," Bellatrix muttered deliriously. She was Lord Voldemort's most loyal servant, and she had to continue serving him. How could she let herself perish in this place?
As Bellatrix frantically ran to the side, she suddenly tripped over something. When she struggled to get up, she realized it was a body that had tripped her, and on its clothes were the words 'You're finished' painted in obvious paint.
...
Looking at the sign that read, 'Bellatrix Lestrange will die here,' Gawain's expression turned gloomy. He realized he had missed the best opportunity to kill Bellatrix Lestrange.
Now that the madwoman had taken refuge in the house, killing her wouldn't be as easy as it had been before.
Not long ago, Gawain had received a message from Scrimgeour, instructing them to send Aurors to clean up the mess. Apparently, a group of Dark Wizards had kidnapped Diggory's son, but they had obviously been rescued, or else the Aurors wouldn't have been asked to deal with the aftermath.
As for why Bellatrix was here, perhaps it was the other party's plan to use them to get rid of this madwoman?
While it was somewhat displeasing to be manipulated, according to Scrimgeour, it was a case of mutual benefit.
That guy probably didn't want to get his hands dirty, so he used the Ministry as a tool. But there were advantages to this; every Death Eater killed and Dark Wizard captured would earn the Ministry recognition in the wizarding world, and the Aurors would gain respect and bonuses.
It was just unfortunate that they had missed the best opportunity.
"No obvious external injuries, probably killed by the Avada Kedavra curse. I suspect that madwoman did it." Dexter, while examining the body, was startled by the face of the deceased, "Most likely, after rescuing Diggory, he transfigured the stunned Dark Wizards into Bellatrix's likeness and set up this whole scheme, intending to use us to get rid of her. Also, I believe he may have used the Imperius Curse."
"Anderson, like Dumbledore, dislikes using Dark Magic," Gawain said, giving his subordinates a meaningful look. "It's said that he didn't use any Unforgivable Curses during the Dueling Competition, and I don't think he would resort to them."
Dexter fell silent. He understood what Director Gawain meant. Even if the other party had used the Imperius Curse, they would pretend otherwise.
Moreover, the Minister had already authorized the Aurors to use Dark Magic against Dark Wizards, so even if the other party had used Unforgivable Curses, they could feign ignorance if necessary.
"Be careful. That madwoman has been pushed to the brink, and she will definitely fight back desperately. So, don't hold back, kill her directly. Also, leave the second team outside to maintain a perimeter and ensure Bellatrix doesn't escape."
After giving his instructions, Gawain waved his hand, signaling for the Aurors to follow him inside and take down the crazed woman.
Gawain wasn't worried about Bellatrix escaping. If Albert truly intended to use them to kill Bellatrix, she wouldn't get away.
Indeed, Gawain's guess was correct. Bellatrix had no chance of escape. This place was warded with an anti-Disillusionment charm, specifically designed as a cage for Bellatrix. If the Aurors failed, this would serve as a backup plan, but it would mean engaging in close-quarters combat with the madwoman.
As soon as they entered the main hall, the Aurors were startled by the scene before them. Numerous individuals resembling Bellatrix were positioned throughout the hall, some still alive, but others already dead.
"Leave two people to deal with this, the rest of you follow me to kill that madwoman. Now is the best opportunity to take her down, and we must not let her escape."
Gawain didn't bring too many people because the narrow environment wouldn't allow for a large group, and it would only get in the way.
Just as Gawain was about to lead his team upstairs to surround and kill Bellatrix, a glowing orb suddenly floated into the main hall, immediately capturing everyone's attention.
"The mysterious person is arriving, you'd better leave now."
After the Patronus disappeared, an eerie silence fell upon the main hall. The Aurors turned to Gawain, awaiting his decision.
"Take them with us, let's get out of here!"
They had only brought two Auror squads, which was sufficient to deal with regular Death Eaters but offered no advantage against the mysterious person, especially if they were accompanied by more Death Eaters.
The Aurors had come in a hurry, and now they left in a similar fashion. Before departing, they took away the fake Bellatrixes.
Not long after they left, Lord Voldemort appeared in the village, accompanied by several Death Eaters. They strolled through the streets, searching for Albert Anderson.
Moments ago, through a series of threats and enticements, Lord Voldemort had forced Cassandra Vablatsky to submit and provide a prophecy, successfully locating Albert Anderson.
That Mudblood was a master of prophecies, and finding and killing him wouldn't be easy.
So, Lord Voldemort chose to fight poison with poison, using a prophet to counter him.
As long as there were no interruptions, Lord Voldemort was confident in taking down his opponent in a one-on-one confrontation.
"Master, was it you who saved me?"
Having escaped death, Bellatrix knelt and kissed Lord Voldemort's boots.
"Where is he? Where is that Mudblood, Albert Anderson?" Lord Voldemort kicked Bellatrix aside, his tone cold and indifferent.
"I don't know, I only encountered two squads of Aurors... Ahhh!"
Bellatrix's words were cut short, replaced by a piercing scream of agony.
The Mudblood had escaped.
Yes, that damned Mudblood had sensed the danger and fled, ruining Lord Voldemort's initially pleasant mood. He vented his anger on Bellatrix.
"That Mudblood, I will deal with him personally." Lord Voldemort glanced at his once-trusted aide, his disappointment evident.
"Master..."
Bellatrix struggled to her feet, her eyes fixed on Lord Voldemort's retreating back. She felt a searing pain throughout her body, and the fact that her master had completely lost faith in her was more devastating than if he had killed her.
"Let's go, we're leaving."
Alecto reached out to support the disheveled Bellatrix, her tone indifferent as she said, "We warned you that this could be a trap."
