Chapter 1180: Unenlightened Divine Wind Murderous Sword·Bone Whistle
Chapter 1180: Unenlightened Divine Wind Murderous Sword·Bone Whistle
No one could escape this chaotic space. Simply keeping one’s body upright instead of flailing about was already a feat.
Yet it affected people differently.
Marco strained to maintain his posture against the weightless void. Bissta, wielding her "Flower Sword", crossed her twin blades to stabilize herself, though her body still wavered—this was the limit even for a Captain-class warrior. Among the Captains, only a few exceptionally strong individuals could fully steady themselves. The rest tumbled about like drifting debris.
The Big Mom Pirates fared no better. Except for a handful like Perospero who managed to keep their composure, most of them and their subordinates floated aimlessly, like wind-tossed tumbleweeds caught in a chaotic gale.
Perospero tried to rally his siblings:
"Stay calm! Stabilize your bodies, control your rhythm! If you can’t even master this much, how can you call yourself mother’s children? Even if Golden Lion enters, we can still counter his attacks! He’s just one man, and mother’s here too!"
At these words, Kuro halted mid-drift as he’d been about to charge forward.
The land ahead had long since vanished—entire islands reduced to fragments of earth floating alongside the combatants, occasionally colliding. Beneath them, seawater had also defied gravity, rising as suspended droplets and globules. No matter how waves surged into this abyss-like crater, they couldn’t fill it. New floods were instantly swept into the sky.
Kuro paused at the boundary of this abyss, smirking coldly.
"Just one man? A counterattack? I remember your name—Perospero, Big Mom’s eldest son. But you don’t seem as sharp as your younger brothers. You’ve forgotten basic Grand Line principles. Let me teach you."
"Grand Line’s Catastrophe Strength!"
"Killing Intent Domain!"
A hum resonated.
The air within the domain thickened, sending chills down everyone’s spines.
"Kuro’s killing intent has seeped in! Wait—is it intensifying? Is this a domain?"
Marco felt sweat drench his body.
Lida sniffed the air, watching Kuro’s movements with suspicion. "This feeling… Hey, Kuro, did you fuse your Awakening ability with this?"
She recognized the technique—it was the same he’d used against Blackbeard. Within this domain, slashes struck indiscriminately. Had he combined this with Awakening?
"What’s not to accept? If Donquixote Doflamingo can wield Haki alongside Awakening, why can’t I mix in some killing intent? But let’s test its power." Kuro raised his Yokai Blade toward the skyward figures.
"Your first time using it?"
"Not exactly. I’ve experimented before—just never on people."
Devil Fruit Awakening required testing, after all. One couldn’t assume Awakening succeeded based on sensation alone. He’d verified it through trials.
The testing ground? The old spot—up in the sky.
Of course, it had taken him great effort to crudely reassemble the shattered supercontinent there afterward.
"Why ‘crudely’? Because the damn thing was too massive. I got lazy and didn’t bother reconstructing it properly. Except for the central island holding legendary blades, a few ‘old acquaintances’ mementos, Pure Gold, and Log Pose coordinates to Laugh Tale, the rest was just hastily pieced together. I was too tired to care. There’ll be plenty of opportunities to smash it down later."
Kuro gripped his Yokai Blade with his right hand, swinging it backward over his shoulder, declaring:
"Killing Intent Domain!"
"No Self No Slay!"
The Blade slashed.
A wisp of blood-red crescent energy erupted from the Yokai Blade, vanishing into the domain.
Hiss!
To ordinary eyes, he’d simply swung once—just once.
But the moment the blade moved, Marco’s pupils contracted. He shouted instinctively: "Use Haki! Now!"
Hiss!
The words barely left his mouth when multiple gashes tore through Marco’s body. His right cheek split open from temple to jaw, his arm severed at the shoulder, a gaping wound carving through his chest’s center. But Phoenix flames flared, quickly healing the injuries.
"Plum Blossom Hide!"
Jinbei reacted swiftly, curling protectively around Luffy and Zoro, covering them in Armament Haki. The sound of blades biting into hardened flesh rang out.
Charlotte·Big Mom’s blazing body echoed with crisp clangs as invisible slashes struck her.
The Captains and Big Mom’s sons who reacted in time protected themselves with Haki. Others weren’t so fortunate.
"Aaaah!"
Some screamed. Others never made a sound—necks severed at the base, skulls drifting into the void.
Then the domain erupted into a crimson mist, scattering blood and limbs chaotically through the turbulent air.
Most floating figures now bore grievous wounds—heads cleaved, waists split, limbs severed. Some lost an arm, sliced into segments. Others lost a leg or bore deep gashes across shoulders. Some had heads shattered into fragments; others were carved into pieces, their bodies split from forehead to heart, ribs to abdomen.
"Kuro, you little brat!!"
Blood droplets and severed limbs swirled behind Charlotte·Big Mom like a storm, fueling her roar. The shockwave of her voice momentarily repelled the chaotic air, scattering the gore from her vicinity.
"Apologies for the mess", Kuro said, flicking his blade sideways with a smile. "The air’s chaotic, so my slash turned chaotic too. Though I only swung once, in this disorder, it fragmented into countless strikes. Death isn’t elegant, but I prefer quick decapitations."
Awakening’s chaotic domain, fused with the original Killing Intent Domain’s arbitrary slashes—though only a single motion, the blade’s trajectory fractured unpredictably. Whether someone died instantly depended on luck.
Lucky ones lost a limb. Unluckier ones lost heads. The unluckiest became mangled meat, limbs severed, bodies split open—but still alive.
All Kuro could guarantee was that every strike would hit someone.
Marco’s eyes widened in horror.
One slash. Just one!
In this uncontrollable domain, their maneuverability was already compromised. Yet Kuro’s single strike eliminated all low-combatants. This indiscriminate assault from a single motion—
He could unleash countless such strikes. Even maintaining this posture—Awakening combined with that strange killing intent—would drain Kuro’s physical strength severely. But how long could their stamina last against an attack that consumed unknown quantities of energy per slash?
Once their strength ran dry—
Phoenix regeneration might save Marco, but others? Even losing Haki reserves would leave them defenseless against Kuro’s next slash.
That single slash’s power was immense!
From the corner of his eye, Marco saw Blendi gasping for breath, his Haki rapidly depleting, fresh blood trickling from multiple wounds.
Blendi, an under-captain of the Whitebeard Pirates, couldn’t fully withstand that single strike despite his strength.
"Don’t panic! Stay calm!"
Perospero shouted again, his elongated tongue bleeding, surrounded by flying streams of candy liquid. He’d used it to block Kuro’s slash with Haki, but not entirely—his hat was sliced, his tongue wounded.
"This guy’s using Awakening and that strange penetrating killing intent! But this form drains his physical strength! When his stamina fails, he’ll be helpless! Mother will finish him!!"
Kuro smirked at Perospero. "You old fox, you’ve got it figured."
Awakening devoured physical strength. Using Awakening required expending six Wu Sheng Kong Sha strands. With four already spent, that left…
Kuro extended his left hand, slicing downward—a strand of golden energy unraveled.
"You’re right. My stamina’s low. Let me give you something harsher."
He raised the Yokai Blade horizontally before his chest, encasing another Wu Sheng Kong Sha strand onto its edge. His left hand’s index and middle fingers smeared along the blade’s hilt, spreading the Crimson Gold glow from base to tip. The entire blade shimmered with radiant glory.
"Unenlightened Divine Wind Murderous Sword…"
His whisper, soft as a breeze, rang clearly through the air like a mountain’s weight pressing on every heart.
Crack.
He slowly hoisted the Yokai Blade onto his shoulder, head slightly raised.
"Bone Whistle."
"Now—catch my slash!"
