Chapter 118: Day One
Chapter 118: Day One
"Is the chaotic situation with the beasts in the south only happening on the outskirts?"
"The scene inside is completely different!"
"You're right. I found a high vantage point at a distance and looked down, and I could see the interior of their activity area clearly. Groups of beasts were distributed in an orderly manner."
Lin Sai delivered the intelligence to the Lord's Manor as quickly as possible.
Andre's expression turned solemn upon hearing this.
But it was already the second day's dawn, the first day of the planned beast extermination campaign.
Lin Sai had rushed over as soon as she discovered the clues.
However, time was not on their side now.
In the courtyard in front of the manor's main building, the Awakened from town were gathering. A small portion had received training at the Lord's Manor, so the militia capable of combat were also assembled.
The battle horns were already hanging at the townspeople's waists.
Alana, standing nearby, also heard the news from Lin Sai. Unlike Andre, who furrowed his brows in deep thought, he directly asked his teacher:
"Sir Andre, do we need to postpone the attack and reorganize our plan?"
Andre shook his head without hesitation, rejecting the idea, "No! It was hard enough to rally the townspeople. Postponing the plan now will only deal a heavy blow to everyone's morale."
After dismissing the suggestion, Andre continued his analysis, "Moreover, the initial plan to clear out the small groups of beasts in the east will definitely work in practice. We can adjust our subsequent plans during today's operation. But as leaders, we must not show any hesitation or indecisiveness when initiating combat."
As Andre spoke, he gave a meaningful glance to Alana.
"I'll go and organize everyone at the front now," Alana nodded, understanding her role as Andre's deputy these past few days, "Sir Andre, should we inform the others about this?"
Andre waved his hand, "Just share it as the latest reconnaissance information."
"Don't show any lack of confidence, but also prepare everyone for this."
Alana accepted the order and headed outside.
Leaving the two alone in the manor's front hall, Andre turned to Lin Sai and asked once more, "Lin Sai, you're the only one who's seen those beasts up close. Do you have any suggestions?"
Lin Sai pondered seriously for a few seconds before sharing her thoughts, "In my opinion, this plan is feasible."
"With you leading the charge against the beasts, Uncle Andre, those beasts have no chance of winning. The only thing to be cautious about is ensuring everyone else's safety."
Lin Sai's response came from the heart.
In the Black Mountain World, she had witnessed Andre's formidable combat prowess, holding his ground against countless foes.
Even when injured and losing an arm, it was only due to a sneak attack by a Five-Stage Corrupted Venom Spider during battle.
Now, even with a slight decline in combat strength, victory was almost certain as long as Andre remained cautious in the fight.
"Alright, let's go."
Andre wasted no time and led Lin Sai out of the manor's main building.
By this time, the Awakened from town had mostly arrived.
Lin Sai's gaze swept around, and she even spotted the radical faction's representative, the merchant Somjin, among them.
Despite their opposing views with Andre.
When it came to safeguarding the town, there was no question that everyone was united in this goal.
Moreover, the merchant faction, eager to break through Black Mountain, would undoubtedly seek the townspeople's assistance on this day.
To achieve this goal, the task of protecting the town and winning the hearts of the people was one they would never neglect.
Seeing the crowd gathered before him, Andre couldn't help but feel a sense of relief in his eyes.
"Lord Andre, I've just informed everyone of the message."
Alana approached and quietly explained the situation.
Andre nodded slightly and stepped forward. Without waiting for everyone to arrive, his voice rang out in the cold wind, rallying everyone:
"Dear friends! Today, I stand here not to discuss our differences or prolong our conflicts and disputes.
Our homeland, this last place of survival that we have left, is under threat.
In the surrounding forests, those beasts that were once mere prey are quietly approaching, posing a real danger to our safety.
They have only one target—our home!"
At this point, Andre paused, his gaze sweeping over the crowd.
Because of this speech, everyone's expression became solemn, as the danger of the beasts was an undeniable fact before them.
He continued, "I know that everyone has their own stance and their own preferred side. This is human nature. But now, we must forget all of that because we are facing an imminent enemy.
We must unite; only through unity can we defeat the evil beasts lurking around us!"
Andre's voice grew louder as he continued, "This is not a simple battle, but it is a fight for our lives, for our families, and for our future. We will not stand idly by and let the beasts destroy everything. We will fight, no matter what!
With these words, Andre took one last deep look at the crowd.
He declared, "Starting today, starting now, we begin our preparations.
We will gather all our strength to eliminate the beasts that threaten us. We will stand united, regardless of who you once were or which side you stood on.
Today, we have only one identity—the residents of this town!
Facing this common enemy, we have but one goal—to protect our homeland.
Only by doing so can we ensure our safety and the future of our home."
The crowd erupted in cheers.
In his speech, Andre intentionally used 'we' as much as possible, a technique he had learned from his experience as a lord to make his words more relatable.
Indeed, Andre's pre-battle speech had the desired effect.
Through this crisis, he unified everyone's short-term goals and determination.
As long as the expedition against the beasts went smoothly, this unity would last for some time.
"Let's go!"
With the order given, the awakened ones began their operation. The supplies prepared by the artisans were laid out in the courtyard, and everyone took only what they needed.
Andre quietly observed the scene, not allowing his success to make him overly proud.
He still remembered the message Lin Sai had sent earlier.
So, as they set out, Andre specifically dispatched two trusted aides to keep watch around the town.
If the beasts from the south launched a surprise attack on the town, this early warning system would promptly notify everyone, allowing them to return and counter the assault.
