Chapter 118: A Blood Test
Chapter 118: A Blood Test
"Before we begin our meal today, there's something I need to discuss with all of you."
On the high platform above the lake, Lu Chen addressed the dozens of neatly lined up Flood Dragons and Giant Pythons, "Just yesterday, one of you, a Foreign Python, was injured while fighting other demonic beasts for territory."
"I know such incidents are common, but from now on, I want you all to look out for each other. If any of your companions are in danger, you must rush to their aid without hesitation."
"He who saves a life earns eternal gratitude. Only by standing united can we defend against external threats and safeguard ourselves. Am I making myself clear?"
The dragons and pythons below nodded in understanding.
"Good. After you've finished your meal of demonic beast meat, I'll keep you here for a while. During this time, I want each of you to memorize your companions' auras and calls, as well as the waters they inhabit."
"If any of your companions call for help, those nearby must rush to their aid immediately."
Lu Chen continued, satisfied. Through a combination of kindness and dominance, he had tamed these Flood Dragons and Giant Pythons, and they now obeyed his every word.
Two days passed, and Lu Chen had been observing the beasts during feeding time. He noticed that none of the dragons or pythons had sustained injuries like the Fire-red Foreign Python had before.
Perhaps the frequent fights had fostered a sense of camaraderie among them. He noticed that some of the dragons and pythons were growing closer and more affectionate towards each other.
Initially, they would compete for the demonic beast meat, but now they formed orderly lines to receive their share, and before mealtimes, they would playfully interact with each other, their bonds growing stronger.
Lu Chen was deeply pleased by this development.
As he prepared to leave after finishing another round of feeding, the Fire-red Foreign Python he had treated for its injuries suddenly let out a low roar and swam slowly towards him, its massive scarlet body cutting through the lake's surface.
When it saw Lu Chen looking at it, the python lifted its upper body out of the water and twisted its head to point at its back.
"Do you want me to sit on your back?" Lu Chen asked curiously.
The python nodded eagerly, its eyes brimming with affection.
"Alright, here I come."
Lu Chen leaped gracefully and landed gently on the python's back.
The Fire-red Foreign Python let out an excited roar as it carried Lu Chen towards the center of the Thousand Dragon Lake.
As the third-grade and above Flood Dragons and Basalt Dragons were kept in a separate area protected by restrictions, there was no need to worry about safety.
Lu Chen sat comfortably on the python's back, admiring the shimmering lake surface. Occasionally, a gigantic Flood Dragon would burst out of the water from the depths.
Slowly, more and more dragons and pythons gathered behind the Fire-red Foreign Python, and Lu Chen recognized them all as the ones he had been tending to.
"Now this is a true dragon boat, with a dragon as my vessel!"
Riding on the back of a python that was several dozen feet long, followed by a host of Flood Dragon 'little brothers', Lu Chen felt a surge of pride and grandeur.
"I am truly grateful for your loyalty. The only way I can repay you is by giving each of you a thorough health checkup."
Standing on the high platform, Lu Chen tossed down different categories of demonic beast meat while speaking to the assembled dragons and beasts below.
"During this period, have you felt that your strength has been increasing at a faster rate?"
The dragons and pythons in the lake nodded in agreement. Lu Chen's improved feeding methods not only ensured they were well-fed but also provided them with meat suited to their individual needs, accelerating their growth.
This was especially noticeable among the weaker Giant Pythons and Foreign Pythons. Previously, due to their lower strength, they often had to settle for scraps of demonic beast meat and couldn't even fill their stomachs, let alone consume meat that was specifically beneficial to them.
"For a more thorough and meticulous inspection, one of the procedures will involve drawing a small amount of blood from each of you."
"But don't worry, it will only be a tiny amount. With your strong constitutions as Flood Dragons and Giant Pythons, you'll recover within a couple of days."
Lu Chen spoke gently with a smile on his face.
The supply of blood from the Emerald Water Python that he had brought earlier was almost depleted, so Lu Chen had set his sights on the numerous Flood Dragons and Giant Pythons in the Thousand Dragon Lake.
Having ventured into this treasure trove, he couldn't very well leave empty-handed.
Now that he had tamed these dragons and pythons, making them obedient and docile, he was finally ready to take the next step.
The numerous beasts didn't suspect a thing. Lu Chen's care and nurturing over this period had been extremely effective, and they truly believed that he was drawing their blood for their own good.
Lu Chen gently landed on the lake's surface and beckoned to the Fire-red Foreign Python.
"Come here, let me give you a full body checkup."
Lu Chen pretended to carefully examine the python's body before taking out a second-grade red-lined needle.
"It might hurt a little the first time, so bear with it."
The Fire-red Foreign Python nodded, and Lu Chen pierced its body with the needle. After withdrawing it, a wound the size of a needle prick began to bleed, dripping with scarlet blood.
He used a small white jade bottle to collect the blood, filling it about halfway before stopping and indicating for the python to heal its own wound.
These dragons and pythons often bled and sustained injuries during their frequent fights, so a small wound like this was nothing to them.
"Why do you have such tough scales? My needle can't even penetrate them!" Lu Chen said helplessly as he looked at the double-headed Flood Dragon in front of him, which was covered in black scales.
An awkward situation had arisen—he couldn't even break through its defense...
Upon hearing this, the double-headed Flood Dragon twisted its body a few times and rolled over in the lake, presenting its softer underbelly to Lu Chen.
"Why do you have such high defense, anyway?" Lu Chen muttered.
He sent a pulse of spiritual energy through the red-lined needle and pierced the dragon's body, drawing another half-bottle of fresh blood.
"Little Bing Bing, it's your turn now."
Holding the red-lined needle, he approached the Ice Chimera, a creature that was one part python and one part dragon.
The chimera's eyes held three parts fear and seven parts pleading as it willingly presented its body to Lu Chen.
The red-lined needle went in and out, and when it was withdrawn, a stream of blood that seemed to carry a chill with it slowly flowed out.
Lu Chen quickly collected the blood with the white jade bottle. This was the blood of a chimeric dragon, and it looked extraordinary.
"Alright, the inspection is complete. I'll take these blood samples back to my cave and use my unique methods to test them. If I find any abnormalities, I'll come back to treat you."
Lu Chen returned to the high platform and addressed the assembled dragons and pythons below.
With this blood test, he had obtained small amounts of blood from dozens of Flood Dragons and Giant Pythons, enough to feed the Dragon Vine for quite some time.
"What good luck I have! To be able to obtain the blood of chimeric dragons and pythons... If the Dragon Vine doesn't mature quickly, it would be a waste of my efforts."
Lu Chen sighed with emotion.
The blood of the Ice Chimera and the Double-Headed Flood Dragon, despite being only second-grade in strength due to their young age and developmental stage, was far more valuable than that of the Emerald Water Python because of their extraordinary bloodlines. The Dragon Vine would surely feast well.
