Chapter 117: Ghost Claw Dragon-Sun Long (Second Update)
Chapter 117: Ghost Claw Dragon-Sun Long (Second Update)
Crack!
A sound of shattering glass rang out above Jerry's head.
Looking up, he saw Balthazar had just broken through the fourth-floor window and was falling down.
"Wingardium Leviosa!"
Jerry quickly drew his wand and cast a levitation charm, preventing Balthazar from being injured by the fall.
The Chinese people in Chinatown, seeing Balthazar floating down slowly, thought it was some kind of levitation magic trick and immediately began clapping.
"What happened?"
Amidst the enthusiastic applause, Jerry and Dave turned to look at Balthazar.
Logically, their speed on the Iron Bird should have been faster than the King of the Magic Worms, so why had Balthazar still been attacked?
Before Balthazar could answer, Horvath appeared at the fourth-floor window, holding a Matryoshka doll and smirking.
"Balthazar, you're still so easy to deceive!"
It turned out that the beautiful woman Horvath had conjured was Veronica, the same Veronica who had sealed Morgana's soul within her own body two thousand years ago and was subsequently sealed deep within the Hand of Death.
She was also their junior sister and Balthazar's lover.
When Balthazar received the Hand of Death from the old lady, the Veronica-illusioned Horvath suddenly entered the room.
The moment he saw Veronica, Balthazar froze, dropping all his guard.
Seizing the opportunity, Horvath cast an Air Cannon, blasting Balthazar out the window and stealing the Hand of Death.
"We'll talk later, first we need to get the Hand of Death back!"
Balthazar knew there was no time for explanations. If Horvath released the sealed companions, it would be a serious problem. He turned and ran towards the stairwell.
Jerry and Dave immediately followed.
On the fourth floor, apart from the terrified Chinese old lady, both Horvath and the Hand of Death had vanished.
"He's upstairs!"
Balthazar sensed Horvath's location immediately.
Having held the Hand of Death for over two thousand years, Balthazar could always locate it, no matter where it was taken.
However, when they reached the rooftop, a Chinese man with a Qing Dynasty braid, bare-chested, and wearing a dragon-shaped armor around his waist, stood in their path.
"Hello, Balthazar!"
"Ghost Claw Dragon-Sun Long!"
Balthazar's brow furrowed as he recognized the man.
This was a Morgana cult wizard he had captured and sealed in Hong Kong over a century ago, skilled in both Flame Magic and Mimicry Magic.
Although his overall strength was a tier below Balthazar's, he was a formidable opponent who would not be easily dispatched.
More importantly, the delay caused by this confrontation would make it much harder to catch Horvath and retrieve the Hand of Death.
Behind Sun Long, Horvath was already pointing his wand at a piece of paper with a dragon drawn on it.
"Roar!"
A winged dragon, not much smaller than the Iron Bird, emerged from the paper and landed in front of Horvath.
"Goodbye!"
Horvath jumped onto the dragon's back, waved at Balthazar, and rode away, smirking.
"You go find the King of the Magic Worms. I'll deal with this guy for now!"
Jerry picked up his Wand and stepped forward.
Balthazar hesitated for a second but finally nodded.
Before Dave fully mastered Merlin's Power, Balthazar could not let Horvath release Morgana. Jerry had shown impressive strength in his previous battle with Horvath, so he had to rely on him for now.
"Buy us some time, then run!"
"Think you can just walk away? Not a chance!"
Seeing Balthazar and Dave trying to move around him to chase Horvath, Sun Long, speaking in Cantonese, waved his hands, and countless silver needles shot toward the two.
"Disrespecting me? Full-body bind!"
Jerry leaped in front of Balthazar and Dave, casting a freezing charm that froze all the silver needles in mid-air.
He stayed behind, of course, to get Sun Long's Magic ring.
With Sun Long no longer blocking their way, Balthazar quickly focused his Magic, summoning the Iron Bird he had left on a high-rise outside Chinatown. He then took Dave and rode the Iron Bird, chasing after Horvath.
Seeing this, Sun Long immediately stopped controlling the silver needles and raised his hands to cast a spell, but a blue light suddenly shot toward him.
It was Jerry, who had promptly thrown a sleeping charm at Sun Long.
"You're asking for it!"
Sun Long roared in anger, waving his hands to summon a solid-looking fire shield that instantly rose in front of him, deflecting Jerry's sleeping charm.
"Insulting me, huh? Eat this!"
Seeing Sun Long block his Magic with a Fire Shield, Jerry didn't panic. Instead, he cursed in his familiar Cantonese while pulling out a wizard robe from his Box and putting it on.
The wizard robe had a shield charm that greatly enhanced his defense.
Hearing Jerry's imperfect Cantonese, Sun Long flew into a rage. He rubbed his hands together, forming a large fireball, which he pushed toward Jerry like a cannonball.
Jerry remained calm, pointing his Wand at the wizard robe to activate its second mode, and a semi-transparent shield charm barrier instantly formed.
The fireball hit the barrier, causing only a slight tremor before being deflected to the side.
"Unerring Arrow!"
Putting away his Wand, Jerry cast an Arrow Charm, sending a dozen arrows flying at Sun Long.
Sun Long waved his hands, and the Fire Shield reappeared, instantly burning the dozen arrows to nothing.
A typical battle between Magicians wasn't as perilous as a warrior's, as they weren't skilled in close combat. Instead, they usually engaged in long-range attacks, each casting spells in turn.
The key to victory lay in two aspects: the number of spells a Magician knew and their understanding of those spells. The more spells a Magician knew, the more attack options they had. The deeper their understanding of a spell, the greater its power, making it harder for the opponent to defend.
For example, if Jerry's spells were significantly more powerful than Sun Long's, even if Sun Long used Fire Escape, he wouldn't be able to defend against Jerry's attacks, and vice versa.
Lastly, it came down to the amount of magic power stored within the two Magicians. If their understanding and number of spells were similar, the battle would reach a stalemate. At that point, either they would stop and leave, or they would engage in a contest of magic power. The one whose magic power was depleted first, unable to cast any more spells, would lose.
