Chapter 1168: That's So Embarrassing, Kaido
Chapter 1168: That's So Embarrassing, Kaido
Under the massive flaming fist, Kaido's body was sent soaring out of the floating Castle Tower, descending midair as Luffy's growl reverberated with his declaration to become the Pirate King, capturing everyone's attention below.
The combatants on the ground looked up and saw Kaido hovering at a high altitude, slowly falling downward.
Zoro sheathed his swords with a grin, the corner of his mouth lifting as Kemuri collapsed behind him.
Sanji lit a cigarette with his lighter, exhaling a deep plume of smoke as he tilted his head upward with a smile.
Perospero, currently held back by Marco, also raised his gaze. His eyes and mouth stretched wide open, disbelief etched across his face.
"It's really—"
Marco glanced at the sky. As Kaido plummeted, another figure emerged from the hole in the Castle Tower. Arms and legs spread wide, the figure wore a radiant grin, their voice booming across the battlefield:
"Kaido, I beat him!!!"
Those words froze every fighter in place. All eyes turned upward to the terrifying form descending from the sky.
The Wano Country samurai, locked in combat with the Beasts Pirates, exchanged glances. Raising their weapons, they roared in unison, morale surging as confidence flooded their faces.
Meanwhile, the pirates paled. Some dropped their weapons entirely, others fled clutching them.
Kaido had lost!
The Four Emperors—the strongest being across sea, land, and air—had been defeated!
If even he fell, what hope did they have? Better to retreat and preserve their lives.
In a world where individual military might often reaches near-mythical levels, the collapse of a leader leaves followers either desperately resisting or fleeing in disarray.
Boom!!
Meanwhile, Eustass Kid and Law, locked in battle with Charlotte·Big Mom, were smashed into the ground by her brutal attack. Skidding backward for dozens of meters, they suddenly heard Luffy's voice. Looking up, they saw Kaido's massive body falling.
"We won!!" Eustass Kid's lips curled into a malevolent grin. "One Emperor down! Now it's your turn, Big Mom!"
Charlotte·Big Mom radiated white flames, her eyes glowing with fiery intensity. Her body had swollen to twice its size, gripping Napoleon for a final strike—until Kid's words froze her in place. The white flames in her eyes flickered out.
"What?!"
She turned in shock. As expected, the familiar figure tumbled from the Castle Tower.
Kaido really lost?!
The colossal body slammed into the earth, landing flat on its back, eyes rolled back, a massive fist-shaped imprint across his chest and face.
Luffy landed next, thudding onto solid ground. Amidst the crowd's gaze, he pushed himself upright, flashing his signature grin—wide, bright, and utterly triumphant.
They won!
Kaido was defeated!
"OH!!!"
Samurai from Wano Country and civilians alike erupted in cheers, rushing toward Luffy in a mass movement.
"Luffy!"
Zoro and Sanji sprinted from nearby, approaching from either side with matching grins.
"Luffy!"
Chopper, who had remained on the battlefield, bounced forward joyfully.
"Zoro! Sanji! Chopper!" Luffy grinned broadly. "I won!"
"Unbelievable!" Sanji shouted. "You beat Kaido! Of course, I took down Quinn too!"
"Nice job, Curly Brow", Zoro smirked. "Earlier, you said there was an accident and I'd have to kill you. Guess I don't need to anymore."
"Pfft, that was just a minor accident—Quinn used stealth to trick me. But now everything's cleared up. I'm still me!" Sanji retorted.
Earlier, during his fight with Quinn, Sanji had mistakenly injured a geisha. He'd blamed himself for the reflexive action, unaware Quinn had invisibly redirected his attack. Now vindicated, he stood tall.
Zoro smiled. "We beat Kaido. Next step—Pirate King, Luffy!"
"Of course!" Luffy's confidence radiated. "I will become Pirate King!"
Sanji frowned. "Wait—wasn't the Castle Tower floating because of Kaido's flame cloud? Why is it still airborne now that he lost?"
"Oh, no!" Luffy replied. "It's because the Incense Burner is there. That's what kept the Castle floating."
"The Incense Burner?!" Chopper bounced excitedly, hooves raised. "The Castle flew because the Incense Burner was inside it!"
"Incense Burner?" Zoro and Sanji tilted their heads in confusion.
Which Incense Burner?
"Luffy!!"
A shout echoed from the sky. From the hole in the Castle, Robin used her ability to form massive palm-shaped wings, guiding Shibe Dog downward. Riding atop Shibe Dog were Nami, Usopp, and Brook—the voice came from Nami.
"Run! The Navy's here!!"
"Navy?" Zoro and Sanji froze, exchanging glances. Sanji stroked his chin. "Wait—if someone Luffy calls 'Incense Burner' is also Navy…"
His eyes widened. "It's Golden Lion!"
Whoosh!
As Sanji spoke, a golden blur shot from the hole like a streak of lightning, landing before Luffy in a burst of dust. The mist carried a lingering afterimage. Luffy's head snapped back from an invisible strike, hurtling backward with a yell.
"Luffy!"
Zoro and Sanji cried out. One drew his sword, the other raised his foot, both shielding Luffy as he crumpled to the ground. They glared into the swirling dust.
The sudden attack halted the cheering crowd mid-step.
From the mist, a figure emerged. As the golden cloak billowed, the familiar form of Golden Lion stood revealed—parting his lips to exhale a thin plume of cigar smoke, his foot returning from the kick that had sent Luffy flying.
Sanji's brow beaded with sweat. "Looks like a heavy hitter arrived, Moss Head."
"I know!" Zoro gripped Shusui, eyes locked on their nemesis.
This was the man who, at Sabaody, had nearly annihilated their entire crew with a single slash—Golden Lion!
Why was he here?
Kuro exhaled smoke, glancing at Kaido's fallen form. Shaking his head, he muttered, "You really embarrassed yourself there, Kaido."
Losing was one thing—no one could stay at peak strength forever. If Kaido had fallen a decade or two later, Kuro might have mused about the cycle of rising champions. But now?
Kuro's gaze shifted to Luffy, who was half-rising while clutching his face. He sighed.
This victory stinks of overpowered luck.
