Chapter 1160: Dragon and Serpent Saga
Chapter 1160: Dragon and Serpent Saga
"Klah, Vice Admiral?"
X Drake also showed surprise. As one of the Captains of the 'Sword' Division, he naturally knew Klah—who served as Deputy Captain of 'Sword'—and recognized Klah's position and military rank were both superior to his own.
Yet if they were coming to Wano Country, X Drake, as a subordinate, should have been informed. This was his first time seeing them, though.
"X Drake, return to formation. Arrest these pirates", Klah ordered.
"Understood!"
X Drake sprang into action, transforming mid-sprint into his Allosaurus hybrid form. His greatsword slashed downward at Usopp's group rushing in.
Clang!
A slender blade blocked his strike. Brook stood atop Shibe Dog, parrying the blow, his sword trembling slightly at the force.
"Yohohoho! That was some force!" Brook shouted.
Usopp pointed at X Drake. "Hey! You promised to cooperate with us. You're betraying us already?!"
X Drake halted his Four-Bladed Axe mid-attack, his eyes narrowing. He flipped down from the air to land on the ground. "That's not betrayal. I'm just returning to my unit—I was Navy to begin with. Besides, I already helped you deal with Shigui and Scratchmen Apoo. That's not betrayal."
He bristled at the accusation. Using such a word would make him no different than Scratchmen Apoo.
X Drake hesitated. The black-and-white masked figure beside them said, "We received no intelligence about your arrival."
"Why would CP need advance notice about Navy operations?"
Klah sneered, his gaze sharp. "What exactly were you planning just now? CP? Even CP0 has no right to execute Navy personnel!"
The masked figure replied, "Just to preserve secrecy, Black Wolf. Prevent this from reaching the news."
His eyes behind the mask flicked toward Klah, then briefly to Lida, as if weighing something.
Klah narrowed his eyes slightly. "You look like you'd kill us too, CP0. Let me repeat—Kuro Mr. has already arrived. You wouldn't want to anger Kuro Mr."
Silence stretched. Then the figure's voice deepened. "I understand. We'll capture Nico Robin."
Lida's gaze shifted to Yamato dashing forward. She blinked, glancing at Klah with an unreadable expression.
"Tch. Even in hybrid form, she's prettier than you. Black Rope Heaven Flash!"
Lida vanished in a blur, leaving afterimages as she lunged at Yamato, transforming into her maiden form mid-motion.
"Don't block my way!"
Yamato reacted instantly, swinging her staff.
Boom!
Lida drove her fist forward. Her fist and the staff clashed midair through Haki entanglement, unleashing a shockwave that flung both attacks apart. They both recoiled—Lida took half a step back, Yamato stepped back fully.
"Hm?"
Yamato furrowed her brow. This woman's Haki was formidable enough, but her physical strength actually rivaled Yamato's hybrid form—and surpassed it slightly.
"You're strong! But I'm busy right now. Let me deal with Hikomae first before we fight properly!" Yamato declared seriously.
"Tch."
Lida shook her hand, smirking. "That soul construct? You can't handle it. Kuro said without mastering 'presence,' you can't fight something like that."
Yamato shouted, "If it reaches the armory, it'll blow this entire place sky-high! Everyone in Castle Tower will die. At its speed, it's almost there!"
Lida frowned delicately. She actually wanted to fight Yamato—Kuro's attention toward Yamato earlier had irked her slightly—but they weren't enemies. Plus, there were Navy personnel downstairs in the first-floor hall.
If this place exploded, she'd survive. The Navy wouldn't.
Ordering the Navy to retreat?
Not ideal either. They came here to investigate and capture targets. Leaving now with ongoing battles outside?
Lida pondered, then pulled out a Transponder Snail and dialed.
"Hey, Kuro!"
...
Castle Tower's fifth level.
Kuro flew straight upward through a hole, reaching the fifth level's position. He paused, scanning the area.
The aura was too dense to pinpoint specific individuals, forcing him to wander aimlessly.
The fifth level was eerily silent, devoid even of fallen bodies. Craters punched through walls marked past combat, though whose was unclear.
"Fierce battle", Kuro muttered, eyeing a pillar gnawed halfway through with massive bite marks. "Kaido's started biting now? Seems excessive."
Boom!
As his words faded, his ears twitched. A sound came from one direction.
Kuro strode toward the source. Soon, he spotted the origin—a massive room. The shoji doors were shredded, and bite marks scarred the surroundings. Inside, a peach-colored dragon and an Eight-Headed Yamata no Orochi writhed in combat.
Well, seven heads—since one was already severed.
"A dragon? Looks like Kaido, but why peach-colored?" Kuro scratched his chin, puzzled.
"Giant serpent! I'll definitely stop you!" The Peach Dragon lunged forward, roaring mid-battle.
"Brat! You think growing up matters? Your grandfather couldn't defeat me. I'm destined to destroy this nation!" The Eight-Headed Yamata no Orochi roared back.
Kuro recognized this creature instantly.
Blackbeard's Giant Serpent—the Shogun of Wano Country.
Yet according to the intelligence he received, it should've been killed by Kaido already. How was it alive now?
Kuro noted the severed head, brow rising. "The Eight-Headed Yamata no Orochi? Mythical beasts this powerful? Every time it dies, it revives?"
Still...
"Seems weaker now."
Kuro observed the dragon locked in combat. He shook his head. "Neither side's strong enough."
Though the Peach Dragon seemed to dominate Yamata no Orochi in aura, to Kuro, both were limited.
Compared to Kaido, a true dragon? They were far inferior.
But who was this dragon?
Never heard of such an entity before.
"Boroboroboro!"
Suddenly, the Transponder Snail on Kuro's wristwatch crackled.
The abrupt sound disrupted the combat rhythm of the Peach Dragon and Yamata no Orochi, making them turn toward the source.
Kuro activated his wristwatch, answering the call. "Hello."
"Kuro Kuro! What're you doing?" Lida's voice came through the Transponder Snail.
"Watching a dragon-and-serpent saga unfold. Pity I didn't bring a camera", Kuro muttered, glancing at the battling dragon and serpent.
