Chapter 116: Teddiursa's Postcard
Chapter 116: Teddiursa's Postcard
At three in the afternoon, Naoki successfully returned to the ranch.
After giving Moto Lizard, who had eagerly approached him, a pat on the head, he set off towards the cave behind the house with the Ice Stone and his newly caught Eievui.
"Alright, Eievui, let's go!"
Naoki released the Pokemon from its Poke Ball, and with a flash of white light, Eievui appeared in the slightly dim and cool cave.
"Take a look around and see what you think of this place."
As he spoke, Naoki took the Ice Stone out of his Spatial Backpack and placed it in the center of the cave.
"Buuii..."
Eievui curiously looked around its new surroundings.
Hmm, this cave is small, and there aren't any strange holes in the walls. It looks safe.
Now, all that's left is to turn this place into an ice cave!
Just then, several curious little heads poked into the cave from outside, peering in with interest.
They belonged to Froslass, five Salandits, Butterfree, and Moto Lizard.
Sensing these unfamiliar auras, Eievui immediately became alert, its body temperature dropping rapidly. Its blue fur froze, turning into sharp ice needles as it bristled with hostility.
Naoki was slightly taken aback but quickly turned and saw the row of curious faces at the entrance. He waved his hands to reassure Eievui, introducing them, "Don't worry, they're all Pokemon that live here too, and they're not like the female Snover you met before!"
"Buuii?" Eievui looked in their direction.
Noticing its gaze, the cheerful Froslass took the initiative to greet it, "Maama~"
Following its lead, the Salandits chimed in with enthusiastic "Yanyan, yanyan" calls.
Butterfree happily flapped its wings, "Nu yi~"
Even Moto Lizard offered a welcoming "Gaou!"
They had all gotten used to Naoki occasionally bringing back new companions to join their little family.
Driven by curiosity about this new addition, they had all come to take a look.
Eievui blinked and, seeing that they were indeed different from the female Snover, relaxed, its fur softening once more.
Seeing this, Naoki smiled and said, "Froslass, I'll leave it to you to show this new companion around the ranch."
"Maama!"
Froslass eagerly nodded, promising to complete the task.
"Why don't you get to know everyone first? I still have something to do, but don't worry, no one will try to take that stone from you," Naoki said.
He was planning to head into town to find Cris and ask her to install a door in the cave.
Without a door, the cold air would escape, and the ice cellar he envisioned wouldn't be possible.
Leaving Eievui in Froslass' care, Naoki mounted his Corviknight and flew off toward Drizzit Town.
After he left, Froslass enthusiastically tried to strike up a conversation with Eievui.
"Maama!" (Hello!)
The Salandits, always eager to mimic, echoed, "Yanyan~"
"Buuii..."
However, Eievui found all of this very unfamiliar, and it wasn't sure how to react.
It lay on the Ice Stone, eyes open, watching this chattering group of Pokemon.
At first, Froslass was quite lively, but gradually, its enthusiasm waned, and it fell silent, not knowing what else to say.
Eievui, with its expressionless face, didn't respond, leaving Froslass feeling dejected.
Assuming that Eievui didn't want to listen to it, Froslass sadly turned and left the cave with the Salandits and Butterfree, heading out to the grassy area outside.
Watching Froslass' dejected departure, Eievui opened its mouth as if it wanted to say something.
But the other Pokemon had already left the cave.
When Naoki returned from town, he found Froslass and the others sitting on the grass, looking rather glum.
Puzzled, he asked, "What's wrong?"
"Nu yi..."
Butterfree hung its head low, glancing in the direction of the cave.
"Did Eievui hurt any of you?" Naoki asked.
Butterfree shook its head.
Naoki recalled Eievui's earlier cold demeanor and asked, "Did it ignore you?"
If he hadn't managed to strike up a conversation by bringing up the stone, perhaps Eievui wouldn't have paid him any mind either.
Naoki looked towards the cave and comforted her, "Don't be sad, it might just be because it's the first day it's here and it's not used to the environment yet. Give it some more time; it's actually a very good Pokemon."
Hearing this, Froslass cheered up again.
"That's more like the Froslass I know!" Naoki smiled.
Just then, Cris, who had come to install the door, arrived at the ranch.
Naoki asked Froslass and the others to go play for a while and then led Cris to the cave.
Looking at the Ice Eievui in the cave, Cris was surprised. "You brought back an Ice-type Pokemon so quickly?"
Naoki nodded. He looked into the cave and saw Ice Eievui lying on the Ice Stone with its eyes closed, seemingly asleep.
Cris had only asked casually, and then she began to install the wooden door at the entrance of the cave.
The door was two meters tall, with a square hole at the bottom for Pokemon to enter and exit freely.
If Ice Eievui wanted to sunbathe outside, it could crawl out through this hole.
"All done!"
Soon, the installation was complete.
Cris opened the door but found the cave dark inside.
Naoki also noticed this and turned to examine the walls of the cave. He pointed to a relatively weak spot and asked, "Can you install a window here?"
"Of course," Cris nodded.
Having heard about Naoki's plans beforehand, she had come prepared with all the necessary materials for the door and windows.
With Goliath's help, they quickly created an opening in the wall.
Cris measured the distance and then began installing the window.
Light shone through the window into the cave, making the icy chamber less dim.
"There, the construction is complete. That'll be 3,000 Pokedollars!" Cris handed the tools to Goliath, asking him to help carry the equipment back to the car.
Three thousand Pokedollars wasn't expensive, so Naoki paid without hesitation.
Cris smiled and reached out to take the payment. She returned to her car and waved goodbye through the window, "See you! If you have any other home improvement needs, feel free to come to me!"
"Will do," Naoki replied.
After seeing Cris off, Naoki returned to the cave.
Ice Eievui seemed to have already started affecting the temperature in the cave. In just a short while, the air had grown noticeably cooler, as if an air conditioner had been turned on.
Indeed, the power of an Ice-type Pokemon! Naoki thought back to Froslass and the others' behavior and couldn't help but say, "Froslass and the others don't mean any harm. They just want to be friends with you. You can try to give them a little response."
"Buuii..." Ice Eievui thought about how Froslass and the others had acted.
It had no friends in the wild and had always been alone, so it was used to this kind of life.
Respond?
At this thought, Ice Eievui nodded slightly, "Buuii."
It would give it a try.
"That's the spirit!"
Naoki breathed a sigh of relief. He bid farewell to Ice Eievui and turned to leave the cave, heading back to the front of the ranch.
There was no rush with Ice Eievui; Naoki wasn't worried as long as he knew that this Pokemon had a good nature.
As for now...
Naoki looked up at the evening glow in the sky.
Night was falling, and it was time to prepare dinner for everyone!
Just as Naoki was about to return to the house, a large Peliipper suddenly landed on his head.
Naoki was surprised to see this unfamiliar Peliipper.
The Peliipper was also looking at him, and after seemingly confirming the human's identity, it opened its beak and dropped a postcard and a small pearl that emitted a beautiful silver light.
Having delivered its payload, the Peliipper took off.
Naoki bent down to pick up the pearl and the postcard that had fallen to the ground.
The "postcard" was actually just a piece of patterned paper.
There were no words on the paper, only two distinct paw prints.
One looked like a bear's paw print, and the other resembled that of a feline.
Seeing these, two names immediately popped into Naoki's mind.
Teddiursa and Mew!
