Chapter 116: Invitation from Headquarters
Chapter 116: Invitation from Headquarters
As expected, not long after Yuxuan and his friends left, Hayato and Kaito contacted the academy.
The disappearance of a student from the old dormitory was indeed a major incident, and so the matter was reported to the academy's board of directors. Kaiba Corporation sent a team to investigate, and Guiping, having heard the news, tagged along.
Yuxuan briefly recounted their journey to the sprite dimension and their encounters there. After the interview, he chatted with Guiping.
"So, the evil god of New Doma has invaded the dimensions of many sprites," mused Guiping. "And you even encountered one of the new Three Musketeers? You're lucky to have won. I hear none of them are pushovers."
"Sheer luck, I tell you," Yuxuan said, still shaken by the memory. "But the situation was dire and challenging. Xiaodai and I struggled against their lone opponent, and victory only came with great difficulty."
Before Yuxuan could finish, Guiping interrupted him.
"Mmhmm, it's best to strengthen your deck. You'll need some rare cards, won't you?"
Yuxuan smiled. It was always easier to deal with someone familiar, and Guiping understood him perfectly.
"I thought you might say that," Guiping smiled back. "As it happens, I heard that the research team at Chaos Soldiers has made some progress lately, thanks to the information you provided earlier. I reckon they'll be in touch with you soon.
Why don't you pay headquarters a visit then? I'll see what I can find for you."
Yuxuan's eyes lit up at the mention of the Kaiba Corporation headquarters. This was an opportunity he couldn't pass up.
He had been brainstorming deck ideas these past few days, contemplating the shortcomings of his current deck when faced with different situations. This naturally led to the conception of various new strategies and builds.
At other times, he would derive new ideas from newly acquired cards, using them as a core to experiment with new deck constructions. Just like his latest creation, the "Abyss Control" deck.
This deck had fairly versatile and easily obtainable components, but he still had many ideas that lacked crucial elements. He had a long list of desired cards that he hoped to acquire.
Especially now, with the "Phoenix God of Nefthys" in his possession, he felt that his main deck could be further enhanced.
It was also the World Champion deck of that year, the "Mutant Chaos Phoenix God."
The three core components of this deck were evident from its name: Mutant Surprise, Chaos Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning, and the Phoenix God of Nefthys.
The Chaos Soldier was undoubtedly the primary source of offensive power, being the strongest hitter in the environment. The Phoenix God of Nefthys, with its 2400 attack points, was also formidable at the time. It boasted resurrection resistance against various mainstream field-clearing traps and spells, and it also had a "Grand Storm"-type field-clearing effect, making it exceptionally powerful.
Mutant Surprise allowed for easy adaptation to different situations by transforming monsters on the field into Fusion Monsters, effortlessly bringing out various powerful Fusion Monsters to counter any opposition. It could be said that this deck excelled in both offense and defense, making it a top-tier choice.
However, Yuxuan still lacked several components to complete this deck concept.
For instance, Fusion Monsters. Perhaps due to the era being dubbed the "Fusion Era" in GX, he quickly discovered that Fusion Monsters from this era were particularly expensive. Even the prices of those he deemed mediocre made him frown, and they tended to be scarce overall.
The Fusion Monsters that were readily available for purchase didn't interest him much, and he felt that acquiring them would be a waste of money. Most of the ones he had on his wish list were hard to come by.
Guiping's offer presented a welcome opportunity, as these resources were unlikely to be scarce at the Kaiba Corporation headquarters.
However, Guiping could only shake his head in response.
"We can't say there hasn't been any progress. We've busted many of their hideouts and uprooted numerous Dark Duelist forces colluding with them. I believe our actions have impacted their organization, but it's hard to say if we've struck at their root."
Guiping sighed.
"The main issue is that we realized this a bit too late. Back then, Dartz had established New Doma's influence all over the world, infiltrating both the business and political spheres to their very core.
Later, even though my brother and Yugi defeated Dartz, it's impossible for such a large organization to just disappear. We suspect that the current New Doma was rebuilt from the remnants of that organization, which is why it's so massive and challenging to deal with."
Guiping paused, furrowing his brows.
"Additionally, the hacker incident has also been a recent distraction for us."
You Xuan asked, "The hacker who broke into the Kaiba Land Arena? Have you found out who it was?"
"That's precisely what's giving us a headache. It's strange; how could such a formidable hacker suddenly appear out of thin air, and we still haven't found any traces of them?"
Guiping, with his hands in his pockets, expressed his frustration at this point.
"And to make matters worse, it happened right at the critical juncture of the 'Link System's' development."
"The 'Link System'?" You Xuan asked.
This term was unfamiliar to him, as he hadn't encountered it either at the academy or on the internet. It was the first time he had heard of it.
"Oh, right, this hasn't been made public yet; it's a trade secret, so I won't say too much about it for now." Guiping smiled, "But the next time you visit headquarters, you should be able to see it. Consider it a surprise to look forward to."
As they chatted, one of the experts quickly approached them to report.
"The preliminary on-site analysis is complete, but further data processing will have to wait until we're back at headquarters." The expert reported, "However, we speculate that the main reason for this incident is something that happened in this old dormitory many years ago, causing the space here to be somewhat unstable.
So, when a transcendent power similar to that of a sprite comes close, there's a chance it could lead to a dimensional rift. But that should be a coincidental phenomenon, and the readings have returned to normal now."
You Xuan pondered the incident that had occurred in the old dormitory many years ago, in conjunction with the original work. He guessed that it was most likely referring to the major plot hole of the GX main story line—the Darkness incident.
Back then, a group of reckless students had conducted research on darkness energy in this very dormitory, making contact with GX's ultimate antagonist, Darkness. All the students involved had subsequently disappeared from that abandoned dormitory, turning it into a dimensional weak point.
"I understand."
Guiping turned to You Xuan.
"I'm glad you're all safe. I think that concludes today's investigation. Let's head back and rest. See you in a few days."
You Xuan also stretched and yawned, "Alright, I should head back and catch some sleep too. Let's go."
After an unexpected trip to another dimension, he was now feeling extremely tired. Fortunately, it was the weekend, and he planned to sleep in until at least the late morning.
Word had spread among the students and faculty about the incident, and they whispered among themselves as they saw the main characters emerge from the dormitory.
"Wow, he's chatting so casually with Kaiba Guiping. Who is that student?"
"I heard a rumor that he's the man favored by the legendary Kaiba Seto."
"No way! Is that for real?"
