Chapter 1155: Mutual Defense
Chapter 1155: Mutual Defense
"You wanted to know what this card does, right?"
Youxuan chuckled.
"Well, now you know.
The Continuous Spell 'Royal Sanctuary' allows the controller of the sanctuary to activate all their Trap Cards immediately when they are set, rather than waiting until the next turn."
This once-dominant effect has since been toned down in modern Yu-Gi-Oh! with the addition of a "once per turn" restriction. However, in the early days, the sanctuary was a powerhouse that significantly enhanced the controller's trap dominance, making it an essential card for any deck.
"!"
The Executor, though masked, didn't need to show his expression for Youxuan to sense the mix of anger and shock in his eyes.
He instantly understood the implications.
Being able to activate a Trap Card the same turn it is set drastically increases its utility, essentially allowing it to be used directly from the hand. This alone is a powerful advantage. But when combined with the Scrap series of Traps, the synergy becomes even more formidable.
When a Scrap Trap is activated, it doesn't go to the Graveyard but is instead reset on the field. With 'Royal Sanctuary,' these Traps can be activated the same turn they are set, effectively removing any usage restrictions.
This means that as long as Scrap Strawman is on the field, the Executor's attacks will never get through. And with Scrap Fence, all of Youxuan's monsters gain the protection of being immune to card effects.
There are no usage limits, creating an impenetrable wall of defense!
The Executor's lips twitched.
He couldn't break through the defense, and he couldn't destroy it.
Then there was the submarine.
He glanced at the Submarine Machine in defense position on Youxuan's field, feeling an even greater sense of frustration. His offensive options were nearly sealed, and every turn, the submarine would deal him 800 points of damage. At this rate, he would be whittled down turn by turn.
And this was just the beginning. The Executor knew that Youxuan wouldn't stop here. The Scrap Strawman and Scrap Fence were just the start, with the Submarine Machine adding pressure. The 'Royal Sanctuary' was clearly tailored for Trap dominance, and Youxuan would likely continue to set up more and more traps, making the situation increasingly dire the longer the duel dragged on.
The Executor's face darkened as he glanced at his hand.
For now, he had no way to break through. Fine, he would just have to use this move for now.
"Set a card, my turn ends", the Executor said grimly.
Youxuan: "My turn, draw."
Youxuan drew a card, glanced at his hand, and showed no intention of summoning more monsters or setting up a new formation. He simply switched the Submarine Machine from defense to attack.
"That 'Submarine Machine' is now in Attack Position."
[Submarine Machine, Defense 1800 → Attack 800]
"Battle", Youxuan said. "Submarine Machine, direct Attack!"
The invincible submarine dove underground once again, preparing to strike.
Here it comes, just as expected!
Even the incapacitated supervisor, Clark, lying on the ground, found the Duel somewhat amusing.
What kind of deck is this?
A Scrap Strawman and a Scrap Fence, completely locking down any attacks and monster destruction, followed by an insulting 800 damage per turn that slowly whittles down the opponent.
You couldn't deny it was somewhat effective.
Compared to being one-shot by a powerful monster, this method felt like being slowly cut to death by a dull knife. The 800 damage per turn wasn't particularly painful, but it gave you plenty of time to slowly feel the approach of death.
The Executor's eyes flashed red.
A submarine?
"You think you can defeat me with something like this? The Executor of Daiichi?"
He suddenly stood up straight and roared.
"Don't joke with me!"
As he spoke, a Trap Card in his back row activated, its intense light instantly enveloping the entire room, blinding everyone.
"Continuous Trap: Wall of Light!" the Executor declared. "I pay Life Points in multiples of 1000 to activate this Trap.
Then, as long as Wall of Light remains on the field, any opponent's monster with an Attack Power equal to or less than the Life Points I paid cannot attack!"
The Executor clenched his right fist and placed it over his heart.
"I pay 1000 Life Points to seal the Submarine Machine's attack!"
[Executor, LP 3200 → LP 2200]
The floor cracked open, and light burst forth from the fissures. Three fine golden lines pierced the concrete, followed by the ground shattering like tempered glass, forming a web of cracks. The golden light split into thousands of rays, assembling into three equally spaced arcs of light.
A harsh, metallic screech filled the air as the submarine, which had been tunneling underground, slammed into the light barrier. Sparks flew, and the submarine, disoriented, wobbled back onto Youxuan's field.
"Oh? So afraid of my submarine, are you?"
Youxuan smirked.
"Just 800 Attack Power, and you're willing to pay 1000 Life Points to defend? Tsk tsk, am I really that scary?"
"Shut up."
The Executor's voice was icy.
It wasn't just about blocking the attack this turn; this move had temporarily sealed the submarine's offensive capabilities.
While the Scrap Trap defense was still a headache, at least he had neutralized the opponent's primary attack method.
Now the situation was at a stalemate.
Come on, let's hurt each other!
The Executor sneered inwardly.
Turtleing, huh? Who can't do that?
He was the Executor of Daiichi, who had fought across countless timelines. The battles he had seen and experienced far exceeded the imagination of most Duelists.
The Executor clenched his fist and said grimly.
"You know nothing. You haven't experienced true despair, the pain of watching everything you care about die in your arms, the pain of being unable to protect anything as the world descends into darkness."
He pounded his chest with his fist.
"The resolve we carry, born from such despair and pain, is something you could never understand!"
"Oh? You're from the future too?"
Youxuan's interest was piqued.
"Then, are you a partner of Z-One?"
