Chapter 115: Slytherin's Knowledge
Chapter 115: Slytherin’s Knowledge
"There's no doubt he was a great man", Dave said to Liam, who was standing beside him.
"Indeed, it's a pity that his descendants took a wrong turn. In my world, the greatest enemy now is one of his descendants."
After a moment of reflection, Dave and Liam continued flipping through the pages to see what great ideas Slytherin had left behind. They discovered that, apart from the initial self-introduction, all the subsequent content was dedicated to this one idea.
Slytherin believed that wizards' innate magical power was inferior to many magical creatures. However, through their wisdom, wizards had summarized the laws of magic and invented various tools to enhance themselves, ultimately becoming the supreme rulers of the Wizarding World.
But this advantage could be imitated and was not unique to wizards. Due to their inferior innate abilities, wizards had to invest more in this area compared to other species. In the Wizarding World, there were other intelligent beings, such as goblins and vampires.
Slytherin feared that one day these beings would learn to mimic wizards, narrowing the gap between them. They might eventually unite and launch a rebellion. Given that wizards' magical talents were inferior to those of magical creatures, they could be at a disadvantage or even worse. After all, competition for survival is ruthless. He did not believe that, in such a scenario, other beings would leave wizards the chance to rebuild their strength.
Therefore, he proposed that if wizards were to combine with certain magical creatures, they would gain extraordinary magical abilities, compensating for their innate shortcomings and ensuring the wizarding race remained in a position of absolute dominance.
The following pages contained a myriad of experimental records and compilations of Slytherin's own thoughts. After glancing through the records, Dave said, "So many experimental records, but it seems there weren't many test subjects. This person maximized the effects of each experiment. If he had chosen to be a scientist, he would have been a great one."
Liam, feeling a bit overwhelmed by the sheer volume of records, asked Dave, "From a professional standpoint, what do all these things actually describe?"
After a careful read, Dave explained to Liam, "I can hardly believe this content was proposed a thousand years ago. You know I'm an expert in genetic modification, and if you remove the magical elements, these records outline a process of genetic modification. The reason he abandoned it was because the mortality rate of this genetic modification was too high."
Dave pointed to the last paragraph on the screen and said, "Look, it seems he was most familiar with snakes, so he used them as examples throughout the experiment. He aimed to transfer advantageous traits from snakes to humans. However, due to the vast differences between the two species, this posed significant risks. The only practical result he confirmed was the growth of snake scales under the skin to protect vital areas of the body. Other ideas, such as the snake's pupils or the transfer of certain magical abilities, he warned against due to the high level of danger. He hoped that these could only be attempted under safe conditions."
Liam suddenly thought of Voldemort's snake-like face, realizing that he must have seen these records. However, Voldemort, driven by a single-minded pursuit of power, ignored his ancestor's views on dark magic and Slytherin's cautious approach. Relying on his powerful magic and a bit of luck, Voldemort forcefully completed the transformation on himself.
No wonder he told Dumbledore that he had undergone several dangerous transformations. At the very least, it was clear from the things left behind by Slytherin. Surviving such life-threatening transformations can't be described as just a low probability.
From this, it can be deduced that Voldemort was likely the world's Fate's Chosen during that time. Otherwise, it would be hard to explain what enabled him to survive these transformations. After all, even with a Horcrux, it could only guarantee his resurrection after death, not prevent him from dying in the first place.
Liam had Dave print out this content, even though he had no intention of transforming himself. After all, Voldemort's failure was a clear example right in front of him.
However, many of the notes left by Slytherin contained valuable knowledge about the soul, body, life, and death. Liam felt that this information could indirectly enhance his understanding and mastery of Life Magic.
Dave, on the other hand, expressed a desire to share this knowledge, as he believed it could help him further develop new Plants. He felt that the existing Plant mutation paths had started to hit a bottleneck, and the genetic fusion described in the notes offered new inspiration.
Liam agreed to share the knowledge, as the human race in this world was still on the brink of extinction. Any increase in power would enhance their chances of survival. Although he wasn't the Chosen One, Liam was more than willing to help others in a way that didn't harm his own interests.
After serving as a leader for a while, Dave's interpersonal skills had greatly improved. He quickly proposed using his knowledge of computers and artificial intelligence as payment for the knowledge he would receive from Liam.
After analyzing Slytherin's notes, Liam took the opportunity to discuss the shortcomings of his Plants during the battle with the Basilisk. In summary, they lacked armor-piercing and antitoxin capabilities, which made him very vulnerable in the fight.
Dave took Liam's concerns seriously. The Zombies might also use toxins or have tough hides, so it was crucial to be prepared and develop Plants that could adapt to various environments to avoid being caught off guard.
After a brief meal with Dave, Liam bid him farewell and returned to the Multiverse General Store with an external hard drive containing the computer knowledge. He first spent 8 Deviation Points to learn Dave's software programming skills, then went to check on his Mutated Fire Dragon Grass. The will inside the Fire Dragon Grass told Liam that it would emerge from the fruit after absorbing the recent harvest.
The little one still needed some more time to rest, so it wouldn't be born anytime soon. Liam shrugged and returned to his dorm. Fortunately, no one was there, or Liam's hour-long stay in bed during the day would have raised suspicions.
After defeating the Basilisk, Liam felt a huge weight lifted from his chest. In the original story, the people were only petrified by chance and not killed, and Liam had been worried that his presence might cause a butterfly effect, leading to a student's death due to the Basilisk. That would have been a significant burden on his conscience.
With the greatest threat now gone, the next step was to enjoy the Christmas holiday. Thinking of this, Liam happily hummed a tune as he walked out of the dorm.
